EMI2.2
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Superheater for marine fire tube boilers.
The present invention relates to marine fire tube boilers, in which the superheater is housed in the firebox. Its object is a method of assembly which allows in particular the easy installation and removal of the superheater, and ensures great stability of the installation.
The essential particularity of this method of assembly consists in that las superheating elements are supported, on the one hand, by the superheater manifolds, and on the other hand, by the boiler's smoke tubes.
The description will follow, with reference to the appended drawing, given by way of example, will make it clear how the invention can be implemented.

of the invention.
EMI2.1
Fig. 2 is a .1-oupe s,; hé1ficJ. tL1UG of this r'lêr'13 channel by line 2-2 of fig. 1.
Figs. 3 and 4 show, applied to the same boiler, another embodiment of the superheater forming the subject of the invention., FIG. 3 being a transverse half-section of FIG. 4.
EMI2.2
Figs. 5 dt J. ": 3, j,: # a'3nt, mt, C. plus T'.T7, C1. (? Éohallo. Of the details of fig. 3 and 4.
In fig, 1, the boiler body is designated by 1, the hearth tubes by 2, the firebox by 3; the latter is closed at the rear by a wall 4; the boiler is crossed by the smoke tubes 5 which open into the smoke box 6 over- mounted by the chimney 7. Between these last two parts of the boiler, there may be an air heater 8. Water tubes 15 interconnect boilers 16, both of which may moreover not exist, depending on the type of boiler to which the superheater is applied. The wall 4 can also be double and internally include a water layer in communication with the rest of the boiler.
The superheater is composed of a number of tubular elements 9 connected, by known means, to two manifolds 10, one of which receives the saturated steam and the other the steam which has superheated in the elements.
The tubular elements 9 are shaped in such a way that one or more of their loops penetrate one or more of the smoke tubes 5 forming part of the upper row or rows and in which they bear directly or else with the interposition of supports. .
They pass through part 12 of wall 4, and are connected by their ends to each of the collectors 10, fixed
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
outside the firebox 3, so that these collectors are easily accessible and that they, as well as the end joints of the tubular elements, are protected from reaching the hot gases.
Part 12 of wall 4 can be removable and can be made quite differently from the rest of wall 4, or even of different materials.
The collectors 10 can be surrounded by a casing 11 of whatever shape, preferably heat-insulating.
If the saturated steam enters the superheater through the upper manifold, the upper layers of superheater element tubes will be the least hot and, as these tubes are in the upper smoke tubes, which are also the least hot, they will work. alongside these.
In this case too, the steam to be superheated and the combustion gases will move against the current, which improves the efficiency of the installation.
A part of the superheater is heated by radiation, the other part by convection, which is advantageous from the point of view of the regularity of the superheating.
In the example represented by fig 3, where the parts corresponding to similar parts of FIG. 1 bear the same reference numerals, the embodiment of the superheater is different, in that the manifolds 10 are fixed inside the firebox and the tubular elements 9 have a length less than the internal length of the firebox, which allows them to be introduced into oelle-oi through the fireboxes 2, without creating any opening in the wall 4.
In this case, the tubular elements 9 may not
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
to be supported in the smoke tubes, but to be supported by suspension devices, such as profiled brackets, for example angles, as in fig. 4, or tees, as in fig. 5 and suspension bands 14, provided with brackets embracing the tubes. The profile irons 13, or other similar suspension devices, will preferably be contiguous, so as to form a screen protecting the manifolds 10 and the connecting joints of the elements from excessive heaters.
In all cases of use of the superheater forming the subject of the invention, it is possible not to accommodate any element loop, or any suspension device, in the tie rods, but to accommodate it in the neighboring ordinary tubes, of which the inner diameter is larger, so as to even out the draft through the different tubes.
The superheater manifolds, in all previous examples, have been shown as supported by consoles, but it is understood that any other mode of support could be adopted.
It goes without saying that modifications can be made to the process which has just been described, without departing from the scope of the invention.
