<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
En ce qui concerne, maintenant, ladite partie mobile, on la constitue, par exemple, simplement, par le susdit plateau circulaire a, par une tige i à section circulaire fixée au centre dudit plateau, et par une manette de manoeuvre j, propre à être assujettie à ladite tige ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
exemple en forme de calotte sphérique.

"Improvements made to taps".
The invention relates to taps.
Its aim, above all, is to make these devices such that they add great simplicity and robustness, that they ensure a complete and lasting seal, and that they can be drawn up, if desired, exclusively in turned parts.
It consists, mainly - and at the same time in making the devices of the type in question include two shutter members, one fixed, the other movable, coacting with each other, and respectively bearing openings suitable for being brought into coincidence when desired to allow the flow of the fluid to be distributed -
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
in constituting one of these members by a sort of plate and the other of said members by a kind of membrane, said members being agencies of the strap such that the pressure prevailing in the pipe of said fluid tends to apply them one against the other.
It consists, apart from this main provision, of certain other provisions, which are preferably used at the same time and which will be discussed more explicitly below.
It relates more particularly to a certain mode of application, as well as certain:.: Odes for implementing said provisions; and it relates more particularly still, and this as new industrial products, to devices of the type in question comprising application of said provisions, to the special elements specific to their establishment, as well as to fixed or mobile installations comprising such devices.
And it can, in any event, be well understood with the aid of the additional description which follows, as well as the appended drawing, which supplement and drawing are, of course, given above all? as an indication.
Figs. 1 and 2 of these drawings show / respectively in axial section and in section along 2-2, FIG. 1, a valve established in accordance with a first embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 3 finally, shows, in axial section, a valve established according to a second embodiment of the invention.
According to the invention, and more particularly according to that of its modes of application, as well as those of the embodiments of its various parts, to which it seems that preference should be given, proposing to establish a tap! we go about it follows, or analogously
This device is essentially made up of two parts, one fixed intended to be connected to the pipe for the fluid to be distributed, and the other mobile intended to be actuated for
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
causing or interrupting the flow, the movable part being
EMI3.1
â.e "; prûf6ronoo and so that it aora auppoaé by the ouito / carried by the fixed part so as to be able to turn in relation to the latter.
Said parts are respectively provided with shut-off members pierced with openings suitable for being brought into coincidence when desired to allow the flow of the fluid to be distributed.
These closure members are then formed, one carried by the movable part) by a circular plate a pierced with at least one eccentric passage orifice b, and the other by a kind of membrane c also pierced by d 'at least one eccentric orifice d, of eccentricity equal to that of the orifice b.
As regards the aforesaid fixed part, it is advantageously constituted by a metal hollow body e, which is provided, on the one hand, with an inlet orifice f and, on the other hand, with an outlet orifice g, which is arranged in such a way that it can keep in place, itself such, in its interior, the aforesaid membrane c, that this membrane divides the interior of the body of the valve in two chambers communicating one with the orifice f, the other with the orifice g, and, finally, which will be provided with the appropriate place, advantageously in the wall of that of said chambers communicating with the orifice of outlet g, an opening h for the passage of the moving part.
As regards, now, said movable part, it is constituted, for example, simply, by the aforesaid circular plate a, by a rod i of circular section fixed to the center of said plate, and by an operating lever j, specific to be secured to said rod;
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
the whole being done such that, when the movable part is put in place in the fixed part, the plate a is in contact with the membrane c, downstream of the latter so that the pressure prevailing in the pipe s 'exerts on the membrane and applies it against the plate.
The body e is advantageously produced in two necked parts which can be assembled with one another, preferably by screwing (fig. 3) and ensuring the clamping of the peripheral zone of the membrane c, between two annular surfaces that l 'is provided, preferably, one with annular grooves k intended to ensure sealing and the other with cells 1 suitable for preventing the membrane from rotating.
Finally, the opening h is fitted with a sealing member, for example with a usual cable gland m.
Whatever the embodiment adopted, the plate a is advantageously formed by a metal disc having a substantially planar contact surface, and the membrane c is advantageously constituted by a plate of deformable material such as leather. , ordinary rubber or special rubber resistant to hot water and steam, thin plate metal (eg thin steel strip) etc, or in general any material which can be applied by pressure against the plate a and also ensure the tightness, the thickness of the membrane depending of course, on the material chosen to establish it (a few millimeters for leather, rubber and similar materials and a few tenths of a millimeter for metals).
Of course, if necessary, to facilitate the operation of the assembly thus established, lubrication of the contact faces of the plate and of the membrane is provided, the lubricant chosen depending on the materials in contact (tallow, graphite, etc.). etc) and this lubricant being interposed between the
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
rubbing faces, either once and for all during assembly, or at determined intervals in which case, for example, means, known per se, are provided for: ener, under pressure, the lubricant at the places where it must reach.
As a result of this and whatever the embodiment adopted, a valve is obtained such that when, by the movement of the lever j, the orifices b and d have been brought into coincidence, the flow occurs, while this flow is interrupted when said orifices are not facing each other.
Among other advantages, such a valve has, in particular, the following: perfect and durable tightness; simplicity and, also ease of repair in the event of wear of the membrane c; this membrane, being in fact of constant thickness, can be cut, for example, from a sheet of rubber which will always be easy to obtain; elimination of hammer blows during closing due to the progressive nature of the latter; possibility of being produced entirely in turned parts, which makes it possible to have great precision and a very low cost price; and the possibility of being established, in the most diverse and compact forms, which allows in particular to obtain the happiest decorative effects.
As goes without saying and as moreover already emerges from the foregoing, the invention is in no way limited to its modes of application, nor to those of the embodiments of its various parts. , having more particularly been considered; it embraces, on the contrary, all the variants thereof, in particular those where the contact surface between the plate and the membrane is not flat but of any other shape, for

example in the form of a spherical cap.
