<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

PATENT OF INVENTION CONTINUOUS OPERATION BASEMENT OVEN FOR HEATING
INGOTS OF IRON OR OTHER METAL,
The present invention relates to an underground furnace for reheating, in continuous operation, ingots of iron or other metal intended to be processed in a rolling mill.
The furnace according to the invention has in its side walls a number of heating gas inlet and outlet openings which can be opened or closed at will, which makes it possible to move the flame in the longitudinal direction of the furnace. and reverse its direction. In this way, the operation of the furnace can be accommodated to its load and to the current conditions of its use.
Another feature of the invention consists in that the furnace is provided with transverse partitions
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
which have in their lower parts, close to the furnace solo, openings which allow the passage of the gas stream.
The drawings represent an embodiment of the invention,
Figure 1 shows a longitudinal elevational section of the oven.

Lu figure z one represents a section -; 7., transverse view.
FIG. 3 represents a horizontal section with a plan view of the bottom of the crucible.
In this embodiment, the crucible 1 of the furnace is divided, by three transverse partitions 2, into

four chambers la, lb, la, ld which comraunifie bzz through the orifices 3 provided daii8 the inféJ? ieUl'e part of each partition. The burners of the two longitudinal walls are indicated at 4 and 5 on the one hand and at 6 and 7 on the other hand. Gas outlets 8 and 9 are provided at both ends of the furnace,

<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
each burner being individually adjustable by a corresponding valve 17. The holes 19 serve to evacuate the molten slag, which comes from the ingots heated in the furnace and which accumulates in the bottom of the crucible.
The arrows in Figure 3 indicate, by way of example, the gas flow in the furnace to explain the operation of the latter. In this example, the chambers 1a and 1b have just been loaded with ingots to be heated, while the chambers 1c and 1d contain ingots which are sufficiently hot and ready to be removed from the furnace. In this case, one puts an operation at will, only the two burners 4 and the two burners 6 of the chamber, the four burners 4 and the four burners 6. The gas discharge orifices 8 and 10 are closed by their registers 16, while orifice 11 is open.
After leaving the burners, the hot gases reverse their direction and first travel through chamber 1a, enter through the communication orifice 3 of the partition which is between chambers 1a and 1b, in chamber 1b, travel through that here and escape through port 11 and flues 13 and 14 into main flue 15.
When the chamber 1c is completely unloaded of its old ingots and loaded with new ingots to be heated, the opening 11 can be closed and the orifice 12 opened. The heating gases then pass through, before escaping into the chamber. the flue of the chimney, the chainbre 1c, where they heat the new load of ingots. When the ingots in the chamber 1a are sufficiently heated. you can close the burners of this chamber and continue heating only with the burners of chamber 1b,
The previous description shows that the various burners of the oven can be put into operation.
