Les dispositions ci-dessus, indiquées comme s'ap- pliquant à un bogie, peuvent être employées de même, et de la manière la plus avantageuse, dans la construction de trucks moteurs à essieux parallèles destinés à porter des motrices du type dit à truck indépendant;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
longerons.

IMPROVEMENTS TO ORDER DRIVE AXLES OF CARS ON RAILWAY TRACKS
The invention relates to improvements to the control of the drive axles of the drive cars and in particular to the control of the glue axles of these cars which are mounted on bogies. Up to now, it has been envisaged the mounting of the motors on a bogie frame in free positions of this frame, so as to make it possible to reduce the total height of the bogie, and a connection system between the frame and the boots. transmission which, mounted on the driving axles, transmitting movement to them, this connection system allowing these transmission boots to follow the axles in all their relative movements by
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
compared to the bogie frame.
The above arrangements, indicated as applying to a bogie, can likewise be employed, and most advantageously, in the construction of powered trucks with parallel axles intended to carry power units of the so-called truck type. independent;
the chassis of these trucks will bear directly, by means of a suspension, elastic or not, and without their being suspended from the body, back motors arranged in free parts of the chassis in question, or between the axles, either outside, the motors each controlling the corresponding axle via a commando shaft of a certain length, and a gearbox with, at the desired points, the necessary Cardan joints, the gearbox transmission being mounted on the axle and carried from the chassis of the truck so as to be able to follow the axle in all its relative movements with respect to this chassis.
In order to facilitate the passage of curves, and especially curves of small radius, to trucks with parallel axles, it is possible to replace the reducers, mounted on the axles of these trucks, with differentials whose crankcases would be carried by the chassis as are the reducers in the arrangements mentioned above ,.
It would then be possible to establish, between the shaft and the armature of each of the motors and the universal joint transmission shaft, which, in this case, becomes the control shaft of the differential of the corresponding axle, a gear of cylindrical gears constituting a stage of the reducer.
The casing of this gear train would be carried directly by the frame of the motor, by the armature shaft from which it would be controlled, or fixed to this frame.
A provision of the same kind could, moreover, be used, even if use was not made of a different
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
ferential, both in trucks with parallel axles and in bogies. This last arrangement would be suitable especially in the case where the conditions of establishment of the material would imply the need for the use, with gear reducers, of a bevel couple combined with one or more cylindrical couples and where the realization of a com - binaison of this kind or a single assembly mounted on the axle would be difficult.
A suspension system forming a universal joint can be applied to the speed reducer of a truck or bogie, in the case where the motive force is supplied by transverse motors and transmitted to the axles via a speed reducer. The motors are then connected to the speed reducer by means of a flexible control, such as a flector, and the speed reducer is, on the one hand, integral with the axle and, on the other hand, connected to the chassis truck or bogie by means of a universal joint thundering device, for example a double ball joint device.
The purpose of this device is then no longer only to absorb a significant part of the reactions of the motor on the speed reducer casing, but it also serves to carry a large part of the weight of this reducer which is necessarily found there. cantilever from the axle; at the same time, it allows this reducer to follow all the movements of the axle to which it is rolled.
It is obvious that the same device for connecting the speed reducer to the frame is applicable both in the case of motors arranged between the axles and in the case of motors arranged outside the axles.

in figure 1.
Figure 3 shows a drive axle control in which the motors drive the axles through a differential.
FIG. 4 is a half-plan view of a bogie fitted with motors arranged parallel to the axles and situated between these axles.
FIG. 5 is also a plan view, but on a larger scale, of a double ball joint device connecting the speed reducer to the frame.
FIG. 6 is a longitudinal section of the frame showing the double ball joint device; and
Figure 7 is a vertical cross section of the speed reducer.
The chassis of the truck shown consists essentially of the side members 28 and the cross members 29 and is supported by the driving axles 30 which carry the wheels 31.
Each of the axles 30 is driven by a motor 32 which rests, at its two ends, without connection with the body, on back cross members 33 arranged in the middle of the frame and integral with this frame. The axles are controlled by means of transmission boots 34 connected to the motors; this system comprises the joints 35, the longitudinal shafts 36 and the joints 37.
The connection of the transmission boot to the frame can be done in the same way as in the case of the bogie or in a similar way; the boot is fixed on a longitudinal arm 38 supported by the frame, by means of any double articulation assembly; in the example shown, this system comprises the articulation of the end 39 of the arm 38 around a guide rod 40 along which it can slide, compressing the springs 41 wound around the integral guide rod. of a loin 28.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
It is obvious that the example of application of the invention described above and shown in the appended drawing is in no way limiting and that various modifications could be made to it without departing from the scope of the invention. In particular, the engines could be housed outside the wheelbase, for example when the latter is reduced to a relatively short length. The frame members could also be placed outside the wheels. The chassis can be worn on pendulum suspension boots.
The invention is characterized only on the one hand by the arrangement of the motors at points left free on the chassis of a truck with parallel axles, the suspension of the motors on the chassis of the truck and the direct control of the axles by. a shaft of a certain length and on the other hand by the suspension of the transmission boots by means of an arm connected to the frame by some double articulation system.
In the arrangement shown in Figure 3, each of the axles 30 is driven by a motor 32 carried by the frame. The axles are controlled by means of gearboxes 34 containing a conical torque connected to the engine by a shaft 36 with the intermediary of a cylindrical torque 42 placed on the side of the engine in a housing 43 integral with the frame of the motor. engine. The carcass of the bevel gear is carried by the chassis of the truck so as to allow this casing to follow the axle in all its relative movements with respect to the chassis of the truck by a back devices described above. Co-mounting with bevel and cylindrical reducers could also be applied in the case of back bogies.
In the suspension mode shown in figures 4, 5, 6 and 7, the bogie comprises two powered axles 10 carrying the wheels 11; these axles support the frame 12 which is provided, at its ends, with cross members 13 connecting the
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
spars. The motive power is provided by two motors 32 which are arranged parallel to the axles and between them and are supported by the frame by the intermediary of the crossmembers 13 and 29 to which the motors are fixed by bolts. Each motor 32 transmits the driving force to a speed reducer 34 which itself transmits it to an axle 10.
The device connecting the speed reducer 34 to the frame consists essentially of a support 51, a lever 52 and a support 53; the support 51 is bolted on the reducer, and the support 53 is bolted on the cross member 29, while the lever 52 carries, at its ends, the ball joints 54 and 55 which fit respectively in the supports 51 and 53. The two parts forming each of the ball joints are held against each other by a bolt 56 which passes through them with a certain clearance and which is terminated by a cross 57; a spring 58 presses the two parts of each ball against each other.
