<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

"Crusher and sieve device".
There are known grinding mills with a centrifugal disc or plate driven by a horizontal rotational movement which throws the material to be ground against a grinding track with the aid of flaps; in this case the material is crushed as a result of impact. Grinders are also known in which the material to be treated rotates at high speed in a stream of air produced in a circular and fixed grinding track; the grinding then results from the fact that the material undergoes friction on the wall of the grinding track. In these two devices, the sieving takes place in chambers formed by rigid walls, for example with the help of a current of air produced under the centrifugal disc by fins.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The invention consists in bringing together in a single device the two types of crushers which have just been discussed; in fact, the grinding track of the grinding device operating with an air current serves as an impact surface for the centrifugal mill while the speed of the air current which ensures the grinding in the second device and which at the same time serves to sieving the product, can be adjusted by guiding or guiding surfaces, flexible, lifting and lowering, in the lower part of the discharge opening, to the degree of fineness that is desired for the product.
The invention is based on this finding that the Shock effect gives only a little deep grinding, unlike that obtained by taking advantage of a rapid sliding movement of the material to be ground on a grinding track, because the pressure of the material to be ground on the grinding track increases considerably with the speed of the circular air stream.
In order to achieve maximum grinding in this way, in accordance with the invention, with the aid of fans, a sufficiently large and high pressure air current is created under the centrifugal disc; this air stream, because the shell of the mill is located higher than the actual grinding track is forced to rotate with the product on the high speed grinding track and is forced to stay there until that the product is ground sufficiently fine so that the current of air which leaves through an orifice made in the middle of the closing cover of the grinding chamber, carries it away despite the opposing centrifugal force.
It is for this reason that the mill according to the invention does not require the presence of a special sieve device and nevertheless provides a final product of uniform fineness, but different according to the specific weight of the product and the air flow speed. If the opening of the outlet pipe ends directly above a baffle plate or rotating shock plate
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
with the rotor, the height adjustment of this annular slot thus formed makes it possible to obtain the required fineness.
To obtain the required degree of fineness, it is also sufficient to raise or lower the end of the outlet pipe, which is done very simply with the aid of an elastic guide surface. at the same time conducts the air stream in all positions in the direction of the sieving and conveying process.
A particularly advantageous form is then produced in accordance with the invention by using two concentric grinding rings thanks to which the grinding effect of the grinding instruments is felt on the inner ring and the grinding effect of the fan on the outer ring. It is thus possible, with the aid of a small quantity of air and by calling upon a high speed, to ensure the sieving of the product and the evacuation of the ground material, without having to endure the inconvenience of 'high air pressure, which consumes a lot of driving force, inside the casing of the crusher.
The drawing shows the realization of the invention in several modalities, namely:
Figure 1 is a complete longitudinal section through the crusher provided with flexible guide surfaces and capable of being raised and lowered; Figures 2 and 3 show respectively the left side of the crusher in longitudinal section and a section along line A-B; Figures 4 and 5 show the right side of the crusher according to another variant in longitudinal section and in section along the line C-D; Figures 6 and 7 show the left side of the mill according to another variant, in longitudinal section and in section taken along the line E-F; Figures 8 and 9 show the right side of the mill according to another variant in longitudinal section and in section following

the G-H line.
The actual crusher is identical in all embodiments. Only the instruments of grinding differ.
In Figure 1, the reference 1 designates the casing or sheath of the grinding chamber with opening 2 for the penetration of air. In the casing 1 is the grinder ring 3; inside the latter is the rotor 4 carrying wings 5 and fan fins 6. The rotor 4 is housed in the sheath 1 and is actuated in any way from below.
The casing 1 is closed at the top by a cover 7 and has in the center an evacuation orifice 8 in which is located, also in the center, the inlet pipe 9 of the material to be treated, at the lower part of the cover 7 is fixed the rubber guide face 10 provided with a reinforcing ring 11 which can be brought closer to the plate 14 animated by a rotational movement using pins 12 removable vertically and provided with a fixing device 13. The crusher according to the invention gives a high yield and all the degrees of fineness desired for fairly small dimensions; therefore its weight is not very considerable and it is suitable for crushing coal on ships and on locomotives.
In Figures 2 to 9, the grinding tank b is provided with a cover d pierced with an outlet opening o and provided with a feed hopper t. The material to be ground is introduced into the crusher via a propeller s and a feed duct 1. The propeller s is housed in its unilateral bearing x and is actuated by the motor and the belts. i1 and i2. The casing b of the mulcher is fixed on the base! in which the rotor is housed in any way. The air inlet holes z are located between the bearing and the wall of the plinth f. The air inlet can obviously be done in another way, for example by an outlet connection disposed tangentially to the base f.
The u axis of
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
The mill rotor is driven by a vertical motor via a coupling w. A belt can also be used instead of the coupling. '
The two grinding rings m1 and m2 are fixed. The first is fixed in the cover d and the other in the casing b of the crusher. Above the rotor is a cover plate permanently assembled with it; under the rotor are the fan fins v. The air current produced by the fins therefore moves, like the air coming from the rotor, between the grinding rings m1 and m2 with circular movements up to the guiding surface 1, the extension of which forms the guiding faces / adjustable 12.
These are housed pivotally on a bolt 7 and can be moved using any common adjusting device, h, simultaneously in a tangential or more radial direction.
In the variant of the centrifugal mill (figs.2 and 3), flaps n of any shape are provided on the rotor r. The design according to Figures 4 and 5 is analogous to that of a centrifugal roller mill in which the crushing rolls c roll on the mill ring m1. Figures 6 and 7 show a variant of a friction mill. In this case, we have preva bodies placed against the mill ring, which are assembled by pivots 1 with the rotor r The variant according to Figures 8 and 9 is designed as a centrifugal ball mill; in this mill is made use of any number of balls, of any size.
In all the variants, the function is identical, as regards the commando, the feeding and the sifting.
The sieving is based on the principle that, depending on the setting, the guide surfaces 12 have a greater or lesser separating action from which it follows that on the path to the outlet orifice o, a greater or lesser quantity is separated. fine

which have entered the grinding process by the plate animated by a rotational movement. The preliminary grinding of the material is carried out on the internal grinding track (mill ring ml) with the intervention of flaps located on the rotor r, cylinders, sliding bodies or balls.
The material which has undergone this preliminary grinding undergoes the final grinding on the outer grinding track (grinding ring m2); for this purpose, it is driven by the air stream produced by the fan in the grinding track for a sufficient time for a sufficient quantity of fine ground material to be discharged without the air pressure increasing. lying.
In addition to these advantages, consisting in dividing the grinding on two separate grinding rings and in moving the air pressure with a small amount of air, of any intensity, out of the casing of the grinding machine. One of the main advantages of this simple, space-saving grinder in the discharge pipe is that, with slight modifications to the rotor, a whole series of different grindings can be carried out in the grinder.
