The present invention relates to improvements to pneumatic wheels, that is to say to vehicle wheels of the kind in which the tire is mounted directly on the hub and constitutes the body of the wheel.
During operation of pneumatic wheels, parts of which having relatively small diameters are in direct contact with the hub of the wheel, the brake mechanism, mounted in this hub, produced therein. There is a considerable heating which can negate the bandage, which comes into contact with the hub against the braking surfaces, due to the fact that it is desirable to keep all the braking elements in the hub and within the limits roast.
The object of the present invention is to overcome this drawback and it consists in providing an insulating air space between the tire and the braking surface of the means.
In order to better understand the invention, reference will now be made to the drawings, which represent, by way of example, a construction idealizing it. In the drawings: @ "Improvements relating to pneumatic wheels"
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of the hub of the wheel, FIG. 2 is a cross sectional view taken substantially along line 11-11 of FIG. 1.- According to these drawings, the means 10 of the pneumatic wheel comprises an intermediate cylindrical part 12 of smaller diameter than its outer end parts.
13.
The intermediate cylindrical part 12 comprises an internal braking sar- face 14. A sleeve 16, the ends of which are fitted relatively tightly, but not sufficiently to secure it to the end parts 15, is held in position on the hub by means of the flanged rings 17 supporting the collars of the tire, which rings are fitted to the ends 13 of the hub in the same manner and are mounted thereon in a removable manner. The sleeve 16 and the rings 17 are placed on the end parts by sliding them axially thereon.
The rings 17 are firmly fixed in the relative positions shown in, FIG. 1. The sleeve is preferably made of magnesium, aluminum or other lightweight material. Thus an annular chamber oa air space 18 is formed by the sleeve and the intermediate part 12 of the hub.
Each ring 17 is provided with an inwardly projecting rim 20, and which has a cylindrical internal surface 22 surrounding the end part of the mahehon 16. In order to facilitate the assembly and disassembly of the anomalies by compared to the means, esps @ ements 23 are prevas between the paalements 24 of the rings and the ends of the sleeve.
A pneumatic tire 25 and an inner tube 26, supported by the hub 10, directly engage the sleeve 16 and are separated from the cylindrical intermediate part 12 by the air space 18. As a result they are isolated.
