<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>

"PROCESS FOR RECORDING AND REPRODUCING SUB AND
NEW INDUSTRIAL PRODUCT AS A RESULT "
The invention relates to the technique of recording and recording. reproduction of the senses.
Currently, we use supports provided with phonogrammic silks in which a point moves, the vibrations of which act either on a membrane or on a magnetic circuit by modifying the reluctance of the latter, causing variations in flux which induce
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
in a coil, a voltage modulated at the frequency of the mechanical displacement of the tip.
Such an apparatus gives excellent results when the phonogram grooves are produced in a disc, owing to the possibility of constituting the latter of a material having suitable mechanical strength. An attempt has been made to apply the same principle to the making of talking or sound films by providing, on them, a phonogrammic groove in which the tip of a "pick-up" is engaged. Such films, which give full satisfaction at the start of their use, deteriorate rapidly owing to the impossibility of making the phonogrammic groove in a material which at the same time exhibits suitable mechanical strength and properties necessary for obtaining sound. perfect images.
The present invention aims to overcome the aforementioned drawbacks and relates to a method for recording and reproducing the senses, mainly characterized in that the original senses are used to produce on a suitable medium, such as a film for example. , a phonogram tracing exhibiting magnetic properties, and in that, for reproduction, a moving part is used in the known manner, but at least partially, made of magnetic metal, placed in a field such that, at as the phonogram moves, said rod follows the recorded vibrations, by the fact that it is always placed in the position of minimum reluctance of the magnetic circuit without any friction against the phonogram.
The invention also extends to the new Inclusive product consisting of a phoinogram, the phonogram trace of which is formed by a deposit of magnetic material.
The invention also extends to the means for implementing the method defined above and in particular to the following points applied separately or in combination: a) For recording the original directions, use is made

industrial, to a disc on which the phonographic trace is produced according to the "NUBLATII process; this disc may be produced in any suitable material and the phonographic trace may be protected by a suitable product.
The invention also extends to new in- dustrial products consisting of an apparatus for recording or reproducing sounds established as defined above.
Another particularly important object of the invention is characterized in that one produces variations of reluctance in the magnetic circuit of an electromagnetic reproducer by the passage in an air gap between points, or between edges, of the film. bearing a phonogrammic groove

which currents are then amplified at the. known manner.
It is obviously possible, without departing from the scope of the invention) to use a permanent magnet, an electromagnet or any suitable device capable of playing the same role. The invention extends to other embodiments of the means for reproduction of sounds and is characterized in that the phonogrammic trace is produced by depositing a suitable material which is subsequently magnetized, either permanently or temporarily using (all suitable means.
One embodiment of a device for magnetically impregnating the phonogrammic trace consists of using at least one magnetic roller on which the film is moved.
Any other device or means that could magnetically impregnate the phonogrammic trace could be used without departing from the scope of the invention.
It is obvious that the support of the phonogrammic trace which is preferably a film but which could equally well consist of a disc is made of a non-magnetic material.
Another embodiment of a previously defined device consists in momentarily magnetizing the phonogrammic trace opposite the "pick-up" device, this magnetization being carried out by two rollers provided with magnetization means or by closing a circuit. electric by the part of the phonogrammic trace which scrolls, at each moment opposite the "pick-up".
The present invention also extends to one form of implementation of the method of recording and reproducing sounds; and consists in using a phonogrammic trace in magnetic metal, the point or the rod of the "pick-up" being in this case magnetized.
The invention also extends to other particular points which will be described in the following text with reference to the appended drawing, given by way of example only, and in which:

For the recording of the senses on a suitable medium and in particular on a film according to the process previously characterized, ordinary equipment is used in which the engraver style is replaced by a plotter style comprising for example a channel for the flow. of a magnetic material which adheres to the film.
According to one of the characteristics of the invention, the flow channel is controlled by a shutter whose movements are synchronized with those of the film so that the flow is suppressed when the film is at rest,
The device described above does not require for the understanding of its operation * a special illustration * Such a device can be established according to numerous embodiments which are obviously
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
all included within the scope of the invention.
Fig. 1 schematically represents a reproducing apparatus constituted by an electromagnetic "pick-up" in which the tip 1 which, in the devices currently in use, is engaged in a phonographic groove provided in a suitable support, is replaced in the form of embodiment shown by way of example only, by a fixed magnetic metal rod 1, with the interposition of a non-magnetic part 2.
on a second rod 3 mounted in the manner known per se via rubber blocks 4 between U-shaped pole pieces belonging to a permanent magnet or an electromagnet which is excited by a constant current. electro 5 or a suitable magnet is arranged opposite the free end 1 'of the rod 1 and a sufficient distance to allow between these members, the passage without friction of the film 6 which comprises, as shown more especially in plan by the fig. 1, a phonogram trace 7 established according to the recording process constituting one of the main parts of the invention.
During operation, the rod 1 is always placed in the position of minimum reluctance of the magnetic circuit of the electro 5 so that this rod perfectly follows the phonogrammic path in printer at line 3, of the corresponding movements.
The movements of the moving assembly cause air gap variations which have the effect of modifying the reluctance of the pick-up circuit and consequently modifying the intensity and direction of the magnetic flux passing through a coil 8. placed on it. as shown in the drawing and in the manner known per se, between the pole masses. The variable flux passing through this coil induces an f.e.m. modulated according to the phonogrammic pattern. This coil 8 is connected to an amplifier 9 of any type, itself connected to a loudspeaker 10.
It will be noted according to the invention that the rod 1 does not touch
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
not the phonogrammic trace so that it cannot be damaged, by the pick-up and a film produced according to the invention with a duration of use identical to ordinary films not comprising a sound recording,
Apart from the aforementioned advantages, the production of a speaking or sound film according to the indicated method is relatively inexpensive while still allowing perfect realization.
As shown by figs. 3 and 4 the pick-up rod can be mounted between points 11 and 12. This rod is made up of three main elements: two conductive elements 1 and 3 and an intermediate insulating element 2.
Fig. 4 illustrates, more especially in section, a plotter style which comprises an oanal 13 for evacuation. The material arrives in this channel either via a conduit 14 connected to the reservoir by a rubber tube, or via conduits 15 and 16 formed axially in the points 11 and 12.
A- Reproduction of films made according to the 'NUBLAT' process on blank negative films.
In this case, for the reproduction of the images.,. ordinary devices. The phonogrammic trace is carried over by a plotter device according to the invention which is connected to a sound reproducing device also established according to the invention.
Such an arrangement is shown schematically in FIG. 5 in which 18 is the film previously executed in the "NUBLAT" process and which is wound on reels 18a and 18b; 19 showing the virgin film wound up on reels 19a and 19b. The films are guided by rollers 20 and pass beforehand opposite the optical device 21. The tracer device which is placed at 22 is connected to the sound recording device 23 by any appropriate connections shown in the drawing by the wires 24.
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
The printing of the images and the phonogrammic processing could obviously be carried out separately without departing from the scope of the invention; the phonogrammic trace being carried out before or after the treatment of the blank negative film.
B- Production of negative film system 'NOBLAT' from Western Electric Tobis systems. Peterson Poulsono
A film obtained by one of the systems indicated above passes at the same time as the negative film on which a “NUBLAT” system phonogram trace is to be produced.
The amplifier of the photoelectric cell of the systems indicated is connected to the tracer device "NUBLAT" and the desired trace is obtained on this negative.
Such an arrangement is more especially shown schematically in FIG. 6, in which: - 25 is the film obtained according to one of the known systems indicated above, - 26 diagrammatically represents the photoelectric cell and 27 the cell amplifier ** 28 is the negative film on which the trace is made phonogram according to the invention, the "NUBLT" plotter device.
