<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

New stove-gasifier without grid for boilers and other uses, patented in its favor on January 21, 1925 N 323,421 The purpose of this patent for improvement to patent N
323,421 of January 21, 1925, is to improve and make more economical the operation of the gasifier which is the subject of this main patent.
In this gas generator, the coal descends on its own, from a reserve coal hopper or loading hopper and is spread over the fire; but the advantages of this arrangement were counterbalanced by certain drawbacks which the present improvement obviates, in particular that the carbon monoxide could, under certain operating conditions, escape through the chimney, which Explosions could occur in the reserve coal hopper, where combustion could spread and too long was required to activate the fire when needed.
According to the present improvement, the gas generator, which can be established at will in the form of a heating boiler has the following particularities in particular.

a (J1.WCjrtu.l 'for iiàarnnmor, an opening which can be closed and which is also established as an air supply opening.
On the other side (called the posterior side) and one above the other, there are three channels, namely: the upper channel for the air supply, approximately at the height where the coal embankment incandescent will form, the middle channel a little lower for the air supply in the middle part of the combustion zone and the lower channel for the air supply for the formation of carbon monoxide and for the removal of ash and slag,
As the upper air supply duct opens on the rear side under the protection of a cantilevered part of the boiler, the air is well heated by the fact that combustion is also activated locally. using air from the middle channel.
According to the present improvement, the loading hopper preferably has a feed slot limiting the passage to a maximum of 10 cm and usually even 6 to 7 cm. only. This is much narrower than the known openings by means of which the loading hopper is in communication with the hearth.

The loading hopper 1, located on the front side of the boiler, has a slit-shaped flow orifice 2 and in front of this orifice the sliding surface 3 of the coal extends further for a certain distance. Below the support surface is the air supply channel 4, provided with an adjustment damper which is only opened when the fire needs to be quickly stirred up, while even lower is located. ve the access opening for ash removal 5, which opening can also be closed and which is provided with an adjustment device for the air supply.
On the rear side of the boiler is the draft flue 6 leading to the chimney. The fuel bank 7 descends from the slot 2 to below the level where the air channel 8 is located. This channel brings in air for the complete combustion of the carbon monoxide. The lower channel 10 is wide and intended for the supply of an adjustable quantity of air and for the evacuation of ash and slag.
The air supplied by this channel through the entire thickness of the fuel layer mainly causes the formation of carbon monoxide,.
Between the channels 8 and 10 there is still an air channel 9, which, by the fact that it brings air high enough in the fire zone, locally creates a high temperature heating the air in channel 8, which would otherwise be too cold to combine with the carbon monoxide rising from the coal. This heating is favored by the fact that the boiler has a part 11 cantilevered above the edible slope. The air must therefore lick the glowing coal.
Between the fire zone and the flow slot 2 of hopper 1 is still on a certain extent of slope 3 of the coal starting to release carbon monoxide which will be burned by the secondary air of channel 8 . but this combustion is strong.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
This is favored by the fact that this air licks the fire activated locally using the air coming from channel 9.
The opening 4 is specially designed to let in air when carbon monoxide is to be formed more rapidly.
By the fact that the channel 4 opens at the end of the inclined surface 3 near the half-incandescent coal and that in this place the layer of fuel cannot be thick, especially when the loading hopper has not that a narrow flow slot, the fire cannot propagate in the loading hopper and according to the present improvement this channel cooperates with the other essential parts of the boiler, especially with the additional channel 9. The channel 4 in relation to the narrow flow slit 2 for fresh coal and this slit itself therefore complete the invention to form an even better efficiency whole.
It is understood that the improvement is not strictly limited to the shapes, proportions, devices and details of execution shown and in particular that the provisions provided can also apply to grate fires.
Summary.
In summary, the invention relates to:
1. The sloping surface for the coal flowing from the loading hopper, the surface extending below the hopper behind its discharge opening approximately in the direction of the slope to be formed by the coals.
2. The surface according to 1, established as an extension of the wall of the hopper and forming one side of its flow orifice.
3. The discharge opening of the hopper according to 1 or 2, established in the form of a slot.
