1J; .. J..Ii'ÓtJéUtc invention s, For oUJaL url ijiatofi lâger which, practically, always remains cold, and which is therefore not subject to expansion from which derive the drawbacks listed below, In a design already patented, the guiding of the piston called 'skirt' in terms of trade could be internally variable, and this skirt was folded outwards; on the other hand, according to the present invention, the new piston comprises

In the new pistons, the openings of the connecting rod journals melted into the skirt and forming one unit with them constitute a single piece,

7) the supports alone take the fatigue, and this end they are made more solid, because they are no longer simple.

The supports are formed so as to spare a lot of play between them and the skirt; which allows the. heat to be released very easily and therefore promotes its rapid evacuation while preserving the skirt from being influenced, even to a small degree.
In the predecessor systems, the pistons, also built

In order to reduce the inconveniences of sloshing when the piston is not yet heated and dilated then of jamming, seizure, etc., when it becomes seized. We know that it is when the piston is no longer in the axis of the cylinder (when the

connecting rod left the vertical position) that the uullu 1.I.ÇJjOI1 t) ur- .vere;
and the friction which results from it, at the same time as the clearance left to the piston, favors the fouling due to the rise of the oil, and the interposition of an oily film between the piston and the wall of the cylinder , thus stopping the heat, because it is made impossible to escape. It is also known that the clearance between the piston and the wall promotes the escape of gases from the explosion chamber, hindering thus perfect compression and regular output.

bind the engine until, the piston being dilated, cures the sloshing only to replace it by the coincidences and seizures which are harmful to both the cylinder and the piston.
However, the pistons already imagined to remedy this are: some split in different ways (see, for example, the elevation view in fig. 3) to allow them to give them only a very minimal clearance, because, theoretically, by their expansion, they should close due to their elasticity} the others, designed in such a way that this expansion forces them to compress inward., as by spring action. Only, among these pistons, some are only extensible at the bottom and not at the top of the skirt; and the others do not lend themselves sufficiently to the compression necessary and expected to avoid jamming and seizing.
The light piston (based on aluminum or other alloy) which is the subject of the present invention has been shown in two exemw ples of execution by the views in vertical section of Figs 1 and 2).
In the first of these views, the upper part or head T forms a block with two reinforced supports S which carry, by their ends

In fig. 2 we see a piston whose skirt, designated by A, consists of an inner part B of variable shape, bent outwards, either at its base or at another location and which can be folded up either entirely or partially .
It is these new arrangements which make it possible to fit the new pistons practically without play, the skirt remaining sufficiently cold, because the heat, starting from the top, and passing through the restricted part, that is to say from the inner part of the skirt.

outer part of the folded skirt, as well as that existing between the supports and the skirt proper, obviates any influence of heat on the inner wall of the outer skirt.
Another advantage provided by the skirt without internal part and directly added to the bottom of the supports; it is that the latter can be built more solidly.
As we have mentioned, fig. 3 of the drawings is an example of a skirt with a slit, intended to give the piston more extensibility; although this slit is made obliquely in this example, it could be provided vertical, and reigning either from the top to the bottom of the skirt, or over part of the latter, as necessary.
Fig. 4 is a plan view relating to an exemplary embodiment where the inner part of the folded skirt takes the form of supports, which can be partly detached from this skirt, such as those whose plan projection is denoted by S S. then, by arranging them in an ente f in the direction of the height, there is still an example of execution, represented by the view in elevation Fig.5.
Finally, according to the realizing example of FIG. 6 which is an elevational view, an opening o can be made in the outer skirt, around the axes a of the connecting rod, in order to allow the introduction of any part facilitating the maintenance of the separation during the casting.
