<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
@ faites d'après un modèle unique;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

@ made from a unique model;
The invention provides that the rough helix to be machined and the helix serving as a model are driven by a simultaneous and identical movement forward or backward as well as a simultaneous and identical oscillating movement. These movements are carried out according to the invention by the fact that the supports of the two aforesaid propellers are made integral and controlled by a single axis.
The invention further provides that the aforesaid propellers are centered on the machine by their bore and by the centers of the ends of the blades, this propeller setting on the pivot of the carving machine being ensured without damaging the leveling thereof.
The invention will be described in detail below with reference to the figures of the accompanying drawings, which show by way of non-limiting example one embodiment of the invention.
Figure 1 is an elevational view of a Lataire type sculpting machine transformed for the application of the device according to the invention; Figure 2 is a plan view of the same machine; FIG. 3 is a plan view of part of the device according to the invention; Figure 4 is an elevational view of the same part shown in Figure 3; Figures 5 and 6 are detail views of the fixing of the propeller on the support pivot.
The carving machine comprises its usual device of a movable frame articulated in vertical and horizontal parallelograms such as 1, 2, 3 ,, 4 and 5 supporting a tool-holder frame such as 6 movable in all directions while remaining continuously parallel. lele to himself. This frame 6 carries a depth-adjustable axis and another tool-holder axis controlled by an electric motor 6n having a rotational speed of 5-600 revolutions per minute.
This arrangement is used for pruning in wood or similar material.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
For grinding materials harder than wood, such as duraluminum and the like, the electric motor 6n can control a grinding wheel, milling cutter, or any tool for grinding the propeller.
On the frame 9 and the supports 10 and 11 of the carving machine rest the two long slide bars 7 and 8 on which move two sliding parts 12 and 13, as well as the device 14 for supporting the rough propellers and models, these parts and this device being made integral with each other by rods 15 and 16 maintaining these various parts at a suitable distance and allowing their movement in block on the slide bars 7 and 8. The electric motor 6n actuates by means of of a speed reducer 18 a lead screw 19 which makes the sliding parts and the aforementioned device 14 travel in front or behind the machining tools.
As visible in Figures 3 and 4, the device 14 comprises a rigid rod carrying pads 14g by which it can slide on the slide bars 7 and 8; this rod is provided with two semi-circular openings carrying two movable sectors 26 and 27 in the transverse direction of the machine and which can oscillate around the common center of the respective openings. On each sector 26 and 27 is respectively placed a vertical pivot 28 and 29, the axis of which passes strictly through the center of the sector, the distance of the centers 30 and 31 of the sectors 26 and 27 corresponding exactly with the distance of the centers of the sector. tool and tip to follow.
These centers also correspond to each other in the vertical plane so that the vertical plane passing through the axes of the tools is always parallel to the vertical plane passing through the centers 30 and 31 of the two sectors 26 and 27.
In order to achieve the simultaneous displacement and of the same magnitude of the two sectors 26 and 27, the latter are made
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
integral with each other by means of an axis 21 carrying two worm screws 22 and 23 which control two gear sectors 24 and 25 assembled to sectors 26 and 27. By rotating the axis 21 by means of a suitable device , the two sectors 26 and 27 will oscillate around their respective centers 30 and 31 so that the pivots 28 and 29 always remain parallel to each other.
In FIG. 5 is shown a universal method of fixing the propeller 32 on the pivots 28 or 29. These pivots are surrounded by a nozzle such as 28a which is split in its part 28f and which can be tightened by the bolt 28b; a 28g nut Used to tighten the propeller against the split rim at 28f, which has the effect of making the nozzle 28a integral with the propeller.
The machining work of the propeller is carried out in the following way: the nozzle 28a placed on one of the pivots 28 and 29 is fixed in the bore of the propeller 32 serving as a model and in the bore of the blank to be machined. The assembly is slid on the pivots 28 and 29, the blank being placed under the rotary tool, the part serving as a model under the pin of the point to be followed.
All the cutting or grinding work will therefore be done based on the bore of the propeller, the bore through which it attaches to the axis of the aircraft engine, this point being of the utmost importance for have a well centered propeller, well balanced and whose blades rotate in the same plane.
The nozzles of the model and rough propeller are centered on the tailstock 33,34,35 and 36 of the sliding parts 12 and 13. It is not essential that the ends of the blades come into contact with the centers of the tailstock , if necessary, it suffices to fix the supports which will be placed against the said adjustable tailstock.
In order to reduce the displacement of the tool-holder frame 6 all the mobile device 14 will travel forward and backward up to
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
complete machining and finishing of one side of a blade. During this work the sectors 26 and 27 may oscillate, either automatically, or semi-automatically, or by hand in order to continuously present a horizontal surface to the tool.
It is understandable that the point to follow which rests on the model propeller will have the same shape as the volume generated by the rotary tool.
The cutting or grinding of the helix in the rough state is done in four main operations, that is to say that the workpieces are moved four times to machine two blades on each of the two faces. This arrangement has a great advantage, given that the cutting or the grinding is done according to a single shape or model thus realizing the blades theoretically the same since they were machined according to a single model. .
It follows from this that the propeller serving as a model does not necessarily have to have two blades, which presents a great advantage since the practical establishment of a propeller presents very great difficulties in spite of the theoretical formulas employed to construct it. These difficulties are reduced to a negligible minimum because this device, according to the invention, makes it possible to machine a propeller from a single blade which does not necessarily have to be a resistant material similar to wood, to cast iron, aluminum, but can also be plaster.
