 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

  “Variable conductor with a high negative temperature coefficient.” Priority of the patent application filed in France on June 17, 1927 n 22807.
 EMI1.1

The present addition is intended to bring improvements in the constitution and establishment of the conductor in special substance which is the subject of the main patent.

   It was indicated in the main patent how to obtain a variable conductor with a large negative temperature coefficient, by ensuring the supersaturation with sulfur or phosphorus, of a metal having a great affinity for these bodies, for example. , money.

   When the substance in accordance with the invention is based on sulfur, experience has shown that its electrical circuit is made difficult as a result of the invasion, by sulfur,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 contact parts which end up sulphurizing, and consequently create unstable losses at the ends of the sulphide conductor.

   In order to obviate this drawback, following the present addition, contact is made directly on the substance, by means of carbon-based parts (retort carbon or graphite); such contact parts having the advantage of remaining insensitive to the action of sulfur.

   On the other hand, repeated and prolonged tests have shown that the passage of the current causes a decomposition of the material in longitudinal veins; the current is then diverted by these veins, which are richer in metal than the other parts of the conductor, which presents various drawbacks. These are eliminated by means of transverse cuts made in a chicane, probably acting by the fact that they break the longitudinal trail of the veins.

   The invention will be better understood by means of the accompanying figure which shows, by way of non-limiting example, one embodiment of the improvements referred to by this addition.

   The variable conductor 1 made of a material conforming to that described in the main patent has, for example, the shape of an elongated plate or of a flat bar, in order to cool better.

   It is provided with notches 4.4 ... alternately on one side and the other. At each end, carbon washers 2 and
2 'are tightened to the variable conductor by means of screws or bolts 3 and 3' which can at the same time ensure the connection with the outer conductors.

   These improvements are, of course, capable of numerous variant embodiments, which any person skilled in the art can imagine without departing from the spirit of the invention.
