<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>

amenant leurs galets appuyer sur les cames 78 et 117 ; début de la rotation de l'arbre principal 110 (qui met en rotation les rou- leaux 33 et 36 par l'entremise des pignons 317,287,288,289,290,291 (fig.3) le galet 76 du levier 72 passe sur la portion basse de la came 78 et permet le soulèvement du levier 72;

This invention relates to a printing apparatus for cash registers and accounting machines, which makes it possible to perform on a recording tape the printing of the operations carried out, as well as the printing and issuing of tickets and the stamping of documents. , such as invoices, which can be introduced temporarily into the machine.
The apparatus which is the subject of the invention can be detached as a whole from the machine to which it is applied and the device for printing the recording tape is in turn removable from the apparatus and its control can take over. different positions depending on the desired operating conditions.
The device for printing the ticket can be put
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
function at will, or to operate for specific machine operations or for printing a single ticket, or for printing and continuous issuance of tickets at each machine operation, and finally it can be used for stamping documents which are fed into the machine.
In the accompanying drawing is shown by way of example one embodiment of the invention in its application to a cash register, and fig. 1 is a view of the whole of the imaging apparatus. - pressure; fig. 2 is a section on 2-2 of fig.3; fig.3 is a plan view of fig.l and 2; Fig. 4 and 5 show separately, in elevation and in plan, on a larger scale, a detail of fig. 2 and 3; fig.6 and 7 are * enlarged views, respectively in front view and in plan, of another detail; Fig. 8 is a separate view of a device of the machine and Fig. 9 is a view similar to Fig. 4 with the members in another operating position.
As can be seen in fig. 1-3, the whole mechanism for printing the recording tape and for printing and issuing the ticket is carried by a support comprising two flanks 1,1 'and fixed by bolts 2 to the frame of the cash register, so that it can be removed as a whole and separated from said cash register by unscrewing the nuts 300.
The sidewall 1. has a hole 301 through which, when the support is mounted in place, passes the group of discs 3 actuated as usual by the shafts 3 'of the numerator and whose crown bears characters in relief to print the numbers brought into position; discs 3 have two series of digits, said series being alternated and moved by a determined angle, so that the same number can be printed on the platens of two printing mechanisms as will be described.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
then.
The device for printing the recording tape comprises a plate 4 (fig.1) which is pivoted, 2 by means of a sleeve 5, on the pivot 6 fixed to the side 1; said plate carries the spool 7 from which the paper tape-r- unwinds, the winding spool 8 and the platen roller 9. The key 304 allows manual control of the winding spool 8.
The platen roller 9 comprises a sawtooth wheel 10 actuated by the stop pawl 11 and by a drive pawl 13 pivoted on the arm 140 which oscillates coaxially with the roller 9 and comprises on its rear face a pivot 141 engaged in a hole in the sidewall 1, so that each oscillation of the plate 4 relative to the sidewall 1, the operation of the wheel 10 and of the pawls 11 and 13 causes the advancement of one step of the wheel 10 and the roller 9. This results in the advancement of the tape which, following the path marked in dotted lines, winds up on the reel 8 coupled with the unwinding reel 7 by a metal cord 303. The roll 142 is applied by spring lever 143 to platen roller 9 to ensure adhesion of the paper web.
The oscillation of the plate 4 around its pivot 6 is caused by the head 14 of a lever 24 on the roller 24 'of which acts, at the appropriate time, a cam 144 integral with the main shaft of the machine. , said head abutting against a crosspiece 16 pivoted on the plate'4 and located behind this plate. This crossing is controlled by the button 15, the rod of which passes through the plate 4, so as to take two different positions in one of which (fig. 2) its end is close to the head 14 which immediately meets it when the oscillation of the lever 24, while in the other position, perpendicular to the first (in dotted lines in fig. 2) it is remote from the head 14 and allows the lever 24 to accomplish its
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
complete oscillation without acting on the cross member 16.
Finally the button
15 also controls a lever 18 pivoted at 302 on the plate 4 and engaged with its hook 19, against the action of a return spring, not shown, in a groove 20 of the pivot 6, so as to keep engaged rotating the plate 4 and the printing device on the side 1. By bringing the button 15 to the position for which opposite the button 21 of the lever 18 passes the notch 17 of the button 15, the hook 19 leaves the groove 20 of the pivot 6 under the action of its return spring and then the plate 4, with attached members, can be removed from the pivot-6 and detached from the side 1.
By bringing the button 15 with the marks 1, 2 and 3 corresponding to the button 21 respectively, one of the three following conditions can be achieved: plate 4 and the tape printing device in action (hook 19 engaged in groove 20 and crosses 16 adia- cente to the head 14); tape printing device off (hook 19 disengaged from groove 20 and cross member 16 away from head 14); printing device free and in condition to be detached en bloc from the sidewall 1 and from the machine for the purpose of replacing the recording tape or for other purposes (hook 19 released and crosspiece 16 away from the head 14) .
The ink ribbon -i- formed by a continuous piece, follows the path indicated in fig.l and it embraces the entire group of discs 3 and the advancement roller 29; its advancement is caused by the toothed wheel 22 integral with the roller 29 and actuated by the drive pawl 23 and by the stop pawl 25 at each oscillation of the lever 281. The rollers 26 and 27 are pushed against the tape -i - by the spring arms 305-306 which carry them and they are used to ink the tape and to keep it applied on its drive roller 29.

281 integral with the shaft 282 which is actuated using the lever 281 'of the roller 283 and the cam 284 of the shaft 110 (fig. 2), serves to align and justify the discs 3 immediately before printing .
The actuators and the return rollers of the ink ribbon are mounted in a removable metallic boot 180 which also carries, at 18l, a cliché for printing labels or the like, the discs 182 intended to mark the date and others. disks aligned with those 182, to mark the progressive number of tickets, as well as the control devices of these disks.
The disks for the progressive numbering are controlled by a lever pivoted 'on the side' 1 by means of a pivot integral with the plate 35, these members not being shown.
As has already been said, the device for printing and issuing tickets can be brought into different operating conditions, that is to say be made completely inactive; be put into action for the issuance of a single ticket and be made inactive in the successive operation of the machine; be placed in permanent activity. In the last two positions mentioned, the printing and issuing of a ticket can be replaced by printing on a sheet inserted from the outside, in which case a separate device automatically suspends the issuance of the ticket. receipt while allowing the operation of the printing device.
The reel of tape-t- to form the tickets is carried by the drum 30 mounted idle on the side 1 (fig.l), and the tape passes over the guides 31 and 32 to reach the drive roller 33 and then pass into the guide 34 which brings it to the plate 35 and to the discs 3; the roller 36 then causes the output / of the printed ticket which passes over the plate 37.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
A roller 285 makes it possible to ink the roller 33 if the latter bears indications to be printed on the underside of the ticket; the roller 285 is carried by an arm 307 pivoted at 308 and placed under the action of the spring 309.
The two rollers 33 and 36 are actuated with an appropriate ratio by the main shaft 110 of the machine; as is known, the operation of the machine, cash register or accounting machine is caused by a turn of the main shaft
110 after the digits have been brought into place by the operation of the keys, and during said turn of the crank, the advancement of the various numerators and totalizers, the operation of the printing device and finally the disengagement takes place. .buttons and the return of the various parts of the machine to the rest position for the subsequent operation.
In the first portion! the rotation of the main shaft 110 the roller 33 acts to advance the cardboard tape up to the roller 36 (assuming the transmission mechanism has been brought into the active position as described below) while the successive phase advance the knife 313 cutting a ribbon ticket -t- and the plate 35 which pushes the ticket against the ink ribbon and the printing units 3-181-182, and finally, in the last phase of rotation of the main shaft, acts the roller 36 which brings the ticket on the plate 37.
The plate 35 is mounted on a shoe 38 movable vertically in the guides 39 fixed to the side 1 and lowering on a stop 145; said pad carries a projection 40 intended to receive the command for lifting the plate in the manner which will be described below.
This control is exerted by an angle lever 4 subjected to @

the action of a return spring 286 and pivoted at 42, its roller 43 being actuated by a cam 44 integral with the main shaft 110 of the machine. An angle lever is rotated on the lever 41 at 45
46, the button 47 of which is intended to engage in the projection 40 when the operation of the plate must occur and the lever 41 is set in oscillation by the cam 44.
For controlling the lever 46 there is another angle lever 48 pivoted at 49 on the lever 41 and articulated at 50 with the lever 46; the other arm of the lever 48 is subjected to the spring 51 connected to said arm and to the lever 41 and carries a head 310 actuated by the tooth 52 of the lever 53 attached to the pivot 42 and articulated at 54 to a lever 55 integral with a tree 111; the arm 83 (fig.2) of this shaft is actuated by the sector 56 pivoted at 57 and actuated by the keys (61,62,112,113, 114) intended to activate the device for printing the ticket.
The spring 58 which acts on an arm 311 integral with the sector 6 brings this sector back to the position for which the system 83,111,55,54,53,52,48 maintains the lever 46 in the position shown in fig.l c ' that is to say with the button 47 away from the projection 40. Under these conditions, the operation of the machine and the rotation of the cam'44 as well as the oscillation of the lever 41 which follows leave the plate. 35 inactive.
When the keys intended to activate the printing device are actuated, the lever 53 is put into oscillation by the members 56-83-111-55 and by its tooth 52 it acts on the head 310 and causes the device to oscillate. lever 48 and that 46 so as to bring the button 47 vis-à-vis the projection 40, so that the oscillation of the lever 41 caused by the cam 44 raises the plate 35.
This plate 35 comprises a shaft 59 mounted eccentrically on the pivots 59 '(fig. 6 and 7) and with which a C-shaped part engages,
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
314, integral with the blade 313 which, by cooperating with the counter blade
60, cuts a ticket from the tape-t- at the start of the lifting of the plate. The shaft 59 can be turned from the outside using a button 159 and it can be locked in the desired position with the aid of the nut 259 which clamps the fen- conical bush in its seat. due 359 (see fig. 7); by modifying the angular position of the shaft
59 it is thus possible to adjust the position of the blade 313 relative to the plate and to the counter blade 60, while ensuring its drive from the plate which slides said blade 313 in its guides 312.
The sector 56 is actuated by the keys 61 and 62, the first of which is intended to be released from its active position by the operation of the machine while the second is provided with a stop 63 which keeps it in the active position until that it is released by the operator. In the first case, the printing device operates only for the operation at the start of which the key 61 has been pressed, while in the second case it operates continuously until the shutdown is excluded. 63 and of the key 62. The keys 112,113,114, corresponding to particular operations carried out on the machine, actuate the lever 115 pivoted at 315 which acts on the projection 116 of the sector 56 and activates the printing device.
As has been said, the advancement of the tape-t- and of the ticket respectively is caused by the rollers 33 and 36 which are rotated at each operation of the machine by the shaft 110 and through the intermediary of the machine. pinions 317-287-288-289-290-291 (fig. 3) ,, but the ribbon and the ticket undergo the action of the rollers 33 and 36 only when they are pressed there, which makes it possible to eliminate will advance.
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
To this end (fig. 4) on the plate 1 are pivoted at 64 and 65 the double levers 66-66 'and 67-67' carrying the rollers 68 and
69 intended to press the ribbon and the ticket onto the drive rollers 33.36. The levers 67 and 66 are coupled, by the links 70,71, with the levers 72,73 pivoted at 74 each of which is. subjected to the action of a spring 75.75 '(fig.3) and is provided with a roller 76, 77; these rollers are intended to press on the cams 78, 117 integral with the main shaft 110 of the machine.
The two levers 72,73 are engaged, at their end, by a stop pawl 79 integral with an oscillating shaft 97 and returned by the spring 99 in the position in which it leaves the levers 72,73 free. This spring 99, visible in FIG. 4, is connected to the lever 100 integral with the shaft 97 as well as to the lever 98 remaining practically stationary at the instant when this spring must act. Said pawl is controlled by its button 79 'which presses on the edge of a lever 82 pivoted on 65 and actuated by the lever 81 integral with the shaft 111; this shaft serves to cause the operation of the plate and it is in turn actuated by the lever 83, by the sector 56 and by the keys.
The lever 82 forms a spout 84 (fig. 2 and 8) intended to be engaged by the tooth 85 of a lever 86 pivoted at 87 and actuated on the one hand by the spring 88 and on the other hand, using a button 89 and a slide 90, by a connecting rod 91 connected to a lever 92 idle on the shaft 97 and subjected to the spring 93,. thus, with the aid of the roller 94, to the control of a sharp tooth cam 95 integral with the cams 78 and 117.
When one acts on the sector 56 to activate the ticket printing device, the lever 82 moves away from the button 79 'and leaves the under the action / pawl 79 to be excluded from its spring 99 and then the springs 75.75 'cause the levers 72 and 73 to oscillate around the pivot 74 in

bringing their rollers to press the cams 78 and 117; start of the rotation of the main shaft 110 (which rotates the rollers 33 and 36 by means of the pinions 317,287,288,289,290,291 (fig. 3) the roller 76 of the lever 72 passes over the lower portion of the cam 78 and allows the lifting of the lever 72;
the connecting rod 70 thus oscillates the lever 66,66 'and brings the roller 68 against the corresponding drive roller 33, causing the tape to advance -t- so as to bring a portion of cardboard onto the plate
35 until the roller 36 is pressed.
After printing and cutting the ticket, the operation is repeated for the cam 117.1st roller 77, the lever 73, the connecting rod 71.1st lever 67.67 'and the roller 69 which clamps the ticket on the roller 36 by causing it to be expelled from the machine.
At the start of the rotation of the cams 78 and 117, the tooth 95 leaves the roller free. 94 and the lever 92 which rises under the action of its spring 93 and thus the connecting rod 91 by lifting allows the spring 88 to move the lever 86 by bringing its tooth 85 into engagement with the tooth 84 of the lever 82 so as to keep this lever locked and the pawl 79 free for all the rotation of the cams 78 and 117.
On the other hand, when the main shaft 110 of the machine is actuated without having operated the control keys 61-62-112-113-114 and consequently with the printing device inactive, the lever 82 keeps the pawl 79 locked and consequently the levers 72 and 73 cannot move when the notch of the cams 78 and 117 passes under their rollers 76,77, while the slide 90 allows the oscillation of the lever 92 although the tooth 85 cannot complete its full stroke as a result of its meeting with the side of tooth 84 of lever 82; at the end of the / rotation, the ramp of the cam 95 brings the roller 94 and the lever back into the

position of fig. 2.
To allow the printing of the indications of the discs 3 and of the printing members 181-182 on a sheet introduced from the outside into the guide 34 (in which case it is necessary to suppress the advance of the ribbon but allow the operation of the plate - tine 35) the following arrangement is used (fig. 4, and 9).
The pawl 79 is fixed in rotation, by effect of the shaft 97, with an angle lever 100 connected, by the spring 99, with a lever 98 fixed to the outer tube 118 which is also fixed to the lever 92. The angle lever 100 is coupled, by knob 101 and slide, with lever 102 pivoted at 103 on lever 98 and lever 102 is coupled at 316 with rod 104 intended to enter guide 34. When the pawl 79 is released, by the lever 82, to activate the printing device and when the cam 95 releases the lever 92, the lever 98 integral with that 92 raises the pivot 103 of the lever 102 so as to move rod 104 in guide 34, which is normally allowed because the tip of the ticket matches roller 36 and does not come above rod 104.
On the other hand, if in this guide is inserted a sheet which prevents the lifting of the rod 104 (see fig. 9), the exclusion of the pawl cannot take place because the articulation 316 of the lever 102 with the rod 104 remains stationary and therefore, given the movement effected in the manner described by the pivot 103 as a result of the oscillation of the levers 92 and 98, the third lever 102 rotates around the pivot 103 and causes the rotation of the lever 100 and the pawl 79, so as to bring the latter back into engagement with the levers 72. And 73 before the rollers 76 and 77 thereof have passed into the notch of the respective cams -78-117 '

The operation and the instructions for use of the devices follow from the foregoing description.
The ribbon printing device operates with each operation of the machine, unless it has been disabled by the operation of button 15.
The receipt printing device is normally inactive, but by lowering one of the keys 61,62,112,113,114 when setting the digits, it is brought into action for the next operation; then the key is released from the control of the machine similarly to the keys for the formation of the. amount and the receipt printing device becomes inactive again.
On the other hand, when the key 62 is lowered, which is retained in its active position by the stop 63, the ticket printing device remains constantly in operation and each time the machine is operated, the ticket is printed and sent. ticket.
In these last two cases, by inserting a sheet from the outside into the guide 34, on this sheet is printed the operation carried out while the emission of the ticket is suppressed. of course, the invention can be applied, with obvious variations, to machines where the setting of the digits and the maneuvers are effected by means of levers instead of keys.
The arrangement described achieves the advantage that the ribbon printing device can be removed separately from the machine if necessary, while it can be removed with the receipt printing device and for both devices the correct ones are used. same printing and inking units.
