Les matrices 26 sont alors mues. l'une vers l'autre pour serrer la bande sur le récipient, puis éloignées l'une de de l'autre* Le récipient est alors enlevé et placé entre une seconde paire de matrioes 34 dont l'un des élé- ments présente une rainure longitudinale 35 et l'autre une creusure de forme correspondante 36.Ces matrices sont pressées fortement l'une vers l'autre contre la bande disposée entre elles, fixent cette bande fermement au ré- cipient ;

for "RECIPIENT, FLAN FOR ITS MANUFACTURE AND MEANS AND PROCESSES FOR ITS CLOSURE"
This invention relates to a collapsible material container comprising a body provided with a bottom at one of its ends, the opposite end being intended to be crushed and provided with a sealing means. The subject of the invention is an improved blank for establishing the body of the container, a method for fixing the bottom to the container, improved means for sealing the crushed end of the container and a method for applying the sealing means.
In sealing containers of this kind, the crushed end is fixed by a folding member acting
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
sant so as to retain and seal the container in the folded state. Heretofore, an unevenness was produced at the upper edge of the crushed end of the container, and the closure member did not apply properly to this edge, so that the container communicated. partially with the atmosphere, which resulted in deterioration of the contents and causing leaks. The present invention overcomes these drawbacks by providing a container in which the upper edges are in the same plane when crushed and by applying:
The closure member such that it always takes advantage of the crushed walls and keeps said walls in close contact, ensuring the container is sealed.
In the attached drawing:
Fig. is a plan of the blank.
Fig 2 is a cross section showing the sealing of the longitudinal edges of the roll blank.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of part of a container body and shows how to secure the bottom in the end.
Fig. 4 is a side view of the container and shows in dotted lines the position occupied by said container when it has been crushed.

M and is fixed to the longitudinal edges to constitute the body of the container, in the present example by a lap joint, which is obtained by offsetting the marginal element 11 along line 15 and by offsetting marginal Insulator 10 in the opposite direction following line 16, said element 10 being intended to come into contact with the outer side of element 15, edge 11 abutting against the shoulder formed by offset element 10 (fig. 2). A discoid bottom 20 provided with a flange is inserted into the large end, the flange extending outwardly and being secured by crimping the body and said flange inwardly, as shown at 21. For, facilitate this crimping. Isolation-1.4 is cut out.
Simultaneously with the fixing of the base, the body is annularly narrowed to constitute a shoulder 22 against which the said base abuts. in order to prevent its penetration into the body under a pressure exerted on it, inwards, the. possibility of the disc rim being pulled out of the. rolled part of the body, and the resulting leakage of the contents of the container.

In forming the blank as described, the bottom is perpendicular to the axis of the container, while the top edge, as seen in fig 4, slopes downward from the opposite sides to the center of the container. * As can be seen in fig. 5, the top edge tilts upward from the opposite sides - to the center.
To close the container, the open end is crushed, the wall element carrying the closure strip 17 and the opposite wall being moved towards each other so as to come to occupy the indicated positions. eh dotted on figs 4 and 5, the central part 23 (fig. 4) rising while the milky parts ... opposite lines 24 lower, which forces the corresponding edges to spread out as shown. dotted

/ then in the figure 5. We fix / a closure member 25 to the real pient.
'l'iento To apply the. Sealing strip 25. The crushed end of the container is placed between two dies 26. A strip 27 is delivered from a reel (not shown) between two wheels 28, one of which has a peripheral V-shaped groove and the other has a corresponding shape and adapts to said groove. the bottom of the groove and the periphery of one of the wheels being serrated transversely, the said wheels folding the band in the form of a V as shown in dotted lines, at 30.
Leaving the wheels 28, the tape is delivered to a second pair of similarly shaped wheels 31 in which the. groove and the peripheral part of one of the wheels make a more acute angle to force the opposing walls of the belt to diverge.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
. ger at a more acute angle and to give the strip, at the place of the fold, the shape of an arc of a circle of relatively small radius * Leaving the wheels Si, the strip passes over a block at knife 32 and above the crushed container, then between the dies.
It is then cut by a knife 33 cooperating with the knife 32 *
The matrices 26 are then moved. towards each other to tighten the band on the container, then moved away from each other * The container is then removed and placed between a second pair of matrioes 34, one of whose elements has a longitudinal groove 35 and the other a corresponding shaped recess 36.These dies are strongly pressed towards each other against the strip arranged between them, fixing this strip firmly to the container;
at the same time, the rib and the recess move the opposite parts of the closure member sideways and form in this member a longitudinal groove 37, this displacement of the material of the closure member having the effect of pulling the folded part firmly against the edge of the crushed container and also of pressing the opposing parts of the container against each other, which ensures the positive seal of the container. To complete the seal, a of the dies 34 has points 38 and the other has recesses placed opposite these points, which forces a part of the closure member, part situated on one side of the container, to penetrate into the material of the interposed container, and in the opposite part of the closure member, as seen at 38.
The transverse serrations 29 produced by the wheels 28 and 31 and the longitudinal groove 37 reinforce and stiffen the closure member. The blank present at

40 slanted down from line 39 and marked "fold" to indicate that the container is to be folded along that line to reclose after it has been opened. To properly position the container between the dies for placing the closure member, the blank is provided with a guide line 41.
