<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"Stopper for toilet or sink"
The present invention relates to improvements in stoppers intended to be employed particularly in combination with the outlet or outlet of a dressing table or sink, and it mainly relates to The object is to establish a device to prevent an overflow from occurring.
One of the important features of the invention consists in providing a stopper of the aforementioned type, in which means are combined with the stopper to allow the water which is in the bowl to automatically discharge outside into the orifice. drain, whenever the water reaches a certain level in the bowl.
Another object of the invention is to provide a stopper of the kind mentioned above, comprising an auxiliary stopper, this auxiliary stopper being arranged to normally close the opening provided in the main stopper, to prevent the water contained in the bowl. to empty, and said auxiliary stopper being arranged to be able to move automatically, so as to no longer be in contact with the opening when the water contained in the bowl reaches a determined level, so as to allow

any excess water is discharged to the outside through the drain opening, preventing any overflow into the sink or toilet.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide a stopper of the aforementioned kind which is of simple construction, inexpensive, strong and durable, and furthermore poorly suitable for the use for which it is intended.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will emerge from the description which follows.
In the accompanying drawing, in which like reference numerals designate the same parts throughout; the figure is a view, part in section and part in elevation, of the plug embodying the invention.
In the drawing. in which, for the purposes of illustrations, the invention has been represented in its preferred embodiment, I denotes a plug of conventional construction, established so as to be able to be inserted, in a removable manner, into the discharge orifice or drain usual provided in the bottom of a bowl. A central opening 2 is formed in the bottom of the valley; .on, and passages 3 and 4 from the bottom diverge through the plug and terminate at. the upper portion. The effect of these openings will be described more fully below.
A plate or disc 5 cotue a closure for the central opening 2, and this plate is connected to the bottom of the stopper I in the manner clearly shown in the drawing. At the center of the upper part of the stopper I extends the bolt 6, the head 7 of which is arranged to support the ring 8, the purpose of which is to constitute a device for introducing and removing the stopper, in the known manner. The threaded end 9 of the bolt extends down into the middle part of the plug, at the point of intersection of the divergent passages 3,4 A nut 10 is screwed onto the threaded lower end of the bolt, and can be snapped onto the bolt. move inside a suitably cut part II provided for this purpose in the upper part of the stopper.
An ear 12, extending upwards, is formed @
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
on the central part of the plate 5. A coil spring 13 is fixed by its lower end to this lug, and by its upper end to the nut 10. The purpose of the coil spring 13 is to maintain the plate 5 normally in contact with the bottom of the plug I , whereby the opening is normally closed. The tension of the coil spring 13 is adjusted by rotating the bolt 6, through the bushing 8, which causes the nut 10 to move along the threaded portion 9 of the bolt, in a manner which emerges clearly from the construction shown.
When the stopper 1 is in the usual drain opening provided in the bottom of a washbasin bowl, the latter fills with water in the usual way. When the water has reached a determined level in the bowl, the weight of the water exerts a downward pressure on the plate 5, which causes the latter to move downwards, separating. from the bottom of the cap, and uncover the opening. This will allow any excess water to flow through passages 3 and 4 and through the opening into the drain line, so that the bowl will not overflow. After the excess water has been discharged from the bowl, the coil spring 13 will return the plate 5 to its normal position, closing the opening 2 and preventing the water in the bowl from coming out and out. empty the latter.
The stopper I is arranged to be removed from the drain orifice in the usual manner, in order to empty the water contained in the basin of the washbasin.
The simplicity with which the improved plug is constructed allows the tension of the coil spring to be adjusted to allow control of the operation of the plate, so that the plate can be operated at will at any desired level achieved by water in the sink, An addition, a plug of the kind described above, will operate at all times in a safe and efficient manner, as well as automatically, while preventing any possibility of overflow overflowing

the cuvette, which often happens when using ordinary plugs. A stopper of the aforementioned type can be manufactured at very low cost.
Although the drawing represents the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is understood that various modifications to the dimensions, conformation and arrangement of the members could be made without departing from the spirit of the invention. , nor of the claimed characters.
