Electric muffle furnace for obtaining white annealing.
Muffle furnaces electrically heated and filled with a protective gas, in order to obtain white annealing, have the disadvantage that the cooling in the muffle of the annealed material requires a prolonged time, during which this material must remain in the muffle because otherwise it will oxidize during cooling. This circumstance results in poor muffle performance.
The present invention relates to a muffle furnace for obtaining white annealing in which the cooling time is significantly reduced, according to the invention this is obtained by placing a tube in the middle of the muffle. provided at both ends with a heat-insulating closure and which can be opened at both ends during the cooling period, which gives outside air access to the interior of the tube. as the tube assumes the annealing temperature of the material being processed, the air flow in the tube will be relatively strong and this will result in vigorous cooling of the

material to be annealed which is in contact with the tube.
For protection against wear, as well as to increase the density of the gas during annealing, the tube may be provided with a difficult-to-melt internal coating, for example an enamel coating.
The accompanying drawing shows embodiments of the invention.
In Figure 1.1 shown the mass of the muffle in which the material 2 is annealed; 3 designates the removable cover of the muffle and 4 a sheet metal casing which is closed in a gas-tight manner by an oil bath 5. In the middle of the muffle is the annealing tube 6 which is closed at both ends by heat-insulating plugs' and which is permanently and gas-tightly connected to the upper part of the casing 4. At the other end, the tube 6 is isolated from the body 1 of the muffle by an oil bath 8. The sheet metal coating of the muffle body and tube are slightly folded back, so that the oil bath is protected against the action of heat.
The two end caps 7 of the ends of the tube are connected to each other by a rod 9 and can be removed from the tube together from above, by a lifting device, after the annealing process has been terminated, which frees the inside of the tube for the passage of the air current.
FIG. 2 represents another embodiment of the invention, in which the tube is rigidly connected to the bottom of the casing of the furnace and is closed at the top in a gas-tight manner by an oil bath. 10 so as to protect the sheet metal casing 4.
In this case, the shutters must be lowered after annealing.
This furnace is particularly suitable for annealing products of annular shape because all the space of the furnace is then well used, and the central space, free of material to be annealed from the furnace is then filled by the tube, so that 'No expenditure of protective gas is necessary for the filling of this space.
