"Pump for icing and coating of biscuit, confectionery or other similar articles *
The object of the present invention is a pump making it possible, in combination with an icing machine or for coating articles, biscuits or confectionery or a similar machine, to carry out the icing or the perfect coating of said articles as desired, either above or below, or above and below simultaneously.
One practical embodiment of such a pump combined with a known coating machine is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof taken along the line A-B of Figure 2 which is a cross-sectional view thereof taken along the line C-D. BAD ORIGINAL
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
To facilitate understanding of the invention, the main characteristics of an existing coating machine will be given below.
This machine has a reservoir 16, to receive the coating material. In this reservoir eet placed a cylinder 25 driven in rotation by any suitable means. This cylinder drives, in turn, two endless conveyor belts, one impermeable 15, passing over a shaft 24; the other 15 constituted by a sort of articulated metal grill passing over the small shaft 24 '. to return to the driving drum 25. A conveyor apron 23 superimposed on the roller 25, automatically distributes the articles to be coated on the slack aprons 15 and 15 '.
The cylinder 25, while rotating, entrains the viscous mass of icing material by simple adhesion and surrounds the lower part of the articles to be coated 26, carried by the aprons 23, 15 and 15 '.
A tamping roller. adjustable (not shown) adjusts the desired depth of depression of the articles in the coating layer.
The articles suitably lined with their path to pass, then, over a device of discs (not shown), which turn them over to drop by their unfinished side onto a left conveyor leading into a hot room where they are dried.
In such a machine, which, as has already been said and known, the result is perfect, when very thick viscous covers are established, but when, on the contrary, it is desired to use clear or semi-transparent covers. viscous, the cylinder 25 is not sufficient because it does not entrain a sufficient quantity of material to ensure the coating.
The pump which is the subject of the invention and which will be described now, is intended to allow the perfect distribution of the paste over the entire surface of the conveyor and the res

lisation, as said above, not only of the icing but of the coating of the articles in all @en form @.
This pump is provided in the reservoir 16 below indicated below the rotating cylinder 26, it comprises a metal tube 1, of suitable length, plugged at both ends by removable pads 28 in order to facilitate the cleaning.
In this tube 1 is housed a shaft 2 occupying the entire length of said tube and passing through its two ends 17 and 17 'of reduced diameter, the buffers 28, sysvisé.
The end 17 carries a lug 18, engaging in a female part and in the groove of the control shaft 19, actuated by a pulley 20 or by any other means.
This shaft 2 carries in its interior swelling part, a recess which passes completely through it in the direction of its diameter and in which slides a blade 3, of suitable shape (figure 1) of a width slightly less than the diameter of the shaft. tube 1.
It should be noted that the shaft 2 is eccentric with respect to the tube 1 and that it touches its upper interior wall and that by rotating it constitutes, in combination with the blade 3, a vane pump of the well-known type.
13 and 12 are a series of holes made in the tube 1.
The holes 13 correspond to the suction of the covering product and the holes 12 to its discharge.
4 and a nozzle fixed in any way over the entire length of the tube 1 and covering the delivery orifices 12.
14 is a hinged shutter reigning over the entire width of the nozzle 4 and making it possible to adjust its opening 10.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
are two vertical chimneys fixed from cha.
The side of the nozzle 4.
20 are orifices * made on the nozzle 4 to put its internal part in communication with the chimneys 7.
21 are orifices made in the lower part of the chimneys 7, the opening of which can be air. rule. by valves 5 adjustable .. actuated, by rods 6.
8 is a tank receiving the liquid possibly flowing from. fireplace. 7 and distributing it in a vertical sheet via the adjustable nozzle 9, occupying its entire width.
22 are cheeks channeling the liquid layer on the surface of the conveyor apron 15.
30 eet a mixing turnstile rotating in the coating mass to keep it homogeneous.
The pump being mine in operation, one can .conne already said, glaze or garnish the articles in a perfect way: either below, or above, or above and deeses simultaneously
This result is obtained by virtue of the pump described and of the side ducts 7. As can be seen, by suitably adjusting the valves 5 and the orifice 10 by means of the flap 14 pivoting around the hinge II, the syrupy liquid delivered by the pump flows in a sheet of regular thickness over the entire width of the conveyor apron 15, regardless of the width of the latter; the icing and coating were thus carried out, below , Articles 26.
If the valves 5 are closed while maintaining the orifice 10,1e surplus of the liquid discharged by the pump, which cannot flow into the tank 16 of the machine, goes up through the chimneys 7 and comes to flow into the tank upper 3, from which it flows in a vertical sheet through the adjustable nozzle 9, occupying the entire width of the tank. This tablecloth forming dou. che joins the horizontal web 15 completely coating the article $.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
If in these conditions, the valves are left: closed, and that one forms equal to the nozzle 10 in agiesas: on the shutter 14, the liquid does not flow more than through the nozzle 9, operating, a @@ Re only the coating on top.
It is obvious that the pump described above (which makes it possible, as it is conceived, to obtain covering sheets of any width) could be applied to any industry, other than chocolate, confectionery, ete .... without departing from the scope of the invention.
