<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"LUBRICATION PUMPS IMPROVEMENTS"
The invention relates to lubrication pumps and its main object is the establishment of means by which a lubrication pump flow nozzle system can be combined and used concurrently with a container, box or cylinder, container , box or cylinder in which grease is sold. The expression "lubricating pump" is intended for a device by means of which the grease can be ejected from the nozzle. By pressing the latter against the part or member to be lubricated, the nozzle constituting one of the parts or being combined with a movable planger or lubricating pump, whereby the grease is forced through the nozzle.
The container, box or cylinder with which the lubricating pump is to be combined, belongs to that type of container in which the grease is sold, usually made of a thin material such as thin plate. And preferably having an opening of flow rate practiced in one of its walls, for example in the end wall. The container may have a movable false bottom
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
or a piston as shown and described in UK patent 236,015.
According to the present invention is combined, with the nozzle system, a lubricating pump of the type described above, having means suitable for connecting the nozzle to the flow opening made in a wall of the nozzle. 'a grease container of the type defined, a bridge piece carried by or to be connected to said nozzle, and arranged so that, when the nozzle is in position it rests on the container, in one or more places such , that the thrust of the nozzle, when the pump is in action, is transmitted to, and in the general direction of one or more walls of the container, the one or more which are transverse to the wall in which the exit is spared.
Preferably, the bridge piece is formed such that when the nozzle is connected to an outlet opening in the end wall of the container (eg, a cylindrical container), the thrust is transmitted to the side walls.
In the container to which the present invention more specifically applies, the cross section of the outlet opening, and of the engagement means between the latter and the fitting, has a diameter considerably smaller than that of 1. * end of the cylinder in which this opening is formed.
The bridge piece is advantageously made in the form of a star or a spider surrounding the nozzle, and the free ends of the spokes or tabs are shaped to grip the rim of the container. The bridge piece can be adjustable according to the length of the nozzle, and an adjustable stopper can be provided therein, so as to come to bear against the bridge piece when the latter occupies the desired position. , so that the device can be used with containers having end flanges of different thicknesses

is shown by way of example in the appended drawing in which:
Figure 1 is an axial sectional elevation of the grease pump assembly.
Figure 2 is an end view, partly in section, taken along line 2-2 of Figure 1, and,
Figure 3 is an axial sectional elevation showing a portion of a modified form of grease pump *
The container 1 in which the grease is sold has a threaded connection 2 disposed at one end, which connection is normally closed by a stopper, and, inside the container, a false bottom or movable piston is arranged. 3, which moves with the grease, under the action of near .. s atmospheric ion, when the grease is evacuated from the pump, an air inlet opening ¯4 being provided in the bottom of the container.
The nozzle system of the grease gun is provided with a threaded sleeve 5, intended to be coupled to the connector 2, and comprises a sleeve 6 provided with slots or slots 7 communicating with the interior of the container, by the intermediate of the annular space 8. The plunger 9 is carried by a tube 10, at the end of which is fixed the flow nozzle Il $ and a channel 18, formed in the plunger, serves as a passage outlet for the sleeve and communicates with the aforesaid tube.
A ball valve .. 13 prevents the entry of air when the plunger is returned by the action of the spring 14, which is housed in the guide 15. If desired, the ball valve can be housed to act. directly on the oanal 12 formed in the plunger *
The outer face of the sleeve is threaded and supports a "star or spider-shaped member 16, freely mounted, which forms a bridge piece between the nozzle and the rim of the container on which the arms of the piece come s. A nut 17 mounted on the sleeve, presses on the member 16 and holds it against the rim, at the same time as it serves
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
stopper absorbing the pump thrust.
It will be noted from the nozzle that, the member 16 being free on the sleeve, the system @ can be used with containers comprising flanges or rims of different heights, the nut 17 being adjusted as required. In the example shown, the arms of member 16 include claws 18 intended to grip the rim of the container.
In the variant shown in FIG. 3, the end of the nozzle system is provided with a threaded extension 19, which can be screwed onto an orifice formed in the end of a container, as shown. In this case, the piston may have a central depression 20. so as to allow it to move to the end of the container.
