Description
The present invention relates to a toilet seat, and to a method for producing such a toilet seat.
A problem that public producers, farmers and public health users often face is that of sanitary degradation, either through their intensive use alone or through intentional vandalism. Public sanitary components should therefore preferably have good qualities of mechanical, thermal and chemical resistance, as well as good sanitary qualities. For this reason it is already known to those skilled in the art to manufacture, for example, toilet bowls, sinks or urinals made of metal, and in particular stainless steel.
However, WC glasses generally continue to be produced with other materials, and therefore constitute a weak point particularly subject to degradation. Indeed, the production of metallic elements, and in particular with ductile and corrosion-resistant metallic materials, such as stainless steel and aluminum or aluminum alloys, have particular disadvantages which substantially increase the cost. of production. These already expensive materials are particularly difficult to weld.
An object of the present invention is therefore to provide a toilet seat whose main external surfaces are metallic, but can be produced at low cost.
With this object, a toilet seat according to the present invention comprises a U-shaped metal tube and having a flattened cross-section, two plugs, preferably made of synthetic material, each closing one end of said metal element and each having an orifice, said orifices being substantially aligned in a transverse direction, and a tilt axis received in said transverse holes of the plugs, and fixed in said transverse direction. This toilet seat can be produced in a simple and low cost, while having very good resistance to both intensive use and even intentional vandalism.
The metal tube may originally have been provided with this flattened cross section. However, since it is easier to obtain round section metal tubes and their bending is also easier, it is advantageous that the cross section of said metal tube is flattened by pressing, preferably after bending.
Advantageously, said metal tube may be stainless steel. This material has particularly advantageous properties of corrosion resistance, as well as good hygienic qualities. In addition, its ductility also facilitates its bending and pressing, and its particularly low coefficient of thermal conductivity for a metal alloy makes it relatively warm to the touch, which is a definite advantage in this particular application. However, other metallic materials, particularly those with good ductility and corrosion resistance, such as aluminum and aluminum alloys, could alternatively be used.
Advantageously, in order to dampen the impact and the noise when it is pivoted forcibly towards its lower position against the bowl, a toilet seat according to the invention may further comprise damping blocks fixed on a lower face of said metal tube. and preferably of synthetic material.
Advantageously, said metal tube may be filled with solid material distinct from that of the tube, so as to reinforce its rigidity. This makes it possible to increase the mechanical strength of the assembly itself with a metal tube with thinner walls, and therefore less expensive material. This solid material can be a granular material, which can be easily poured into the metal tube after its bending and / or pressing, a synthetic material, which could be introduced in liquid form into the metal tube and then hardened, or even a synthetic foam which could be introduced in liquid form into the metal tube and inflated and then hardened.
Advantageously, said metal tube may also comprise transverse orifices aligned with said transverse orifices of the plugs and traversed by said tilting axis. In this way, once assembled, the tilting axis also fixes the plugs in the metal tube, preventing a malicious removal. Alternatively, however, the plugs may be attached to the ends of the metal tube by alternating means, such as by gluing, or by pins connecting them transversely to the metal tube.
An additional advantage of the use of a metal material for the toilet seat is that information, messages, drawings, logos or advertising can be incorporated in this toilet seat, in a substantially unalterable manner, by etching on a metal surface. This etching can be performed inter alia by laser, acid, or embossed, for example by stamping. However, information, messages, designs, logos or advertising may also be incorporated into the toilet seat by other means, such as, for example, a self-adhesive film. This has the advantage of being removed, for example after a delay granted with an advertiser.
Advantageously, a toilet seat according to the invention may further comprise a cover, preferably metal, pivotally mounted on said tilt axis. If the lid is also metallic, the aforementioned etching could be performed on a surface of the metal tube and / or lid. Even more advantageously, said lid may comprise a handle, for example in the form of a perforated orifice in the lid, to lift it without touching a surface of the metal tube, and therefore in a more hygienic manner. This cover can also receive information, messages, drawings, logos or advertising by engraving or by other means, such as, for example, a self-adhesive film.
Details of the invention are described below with reference to the drawings.
The toilet seat 1 according to the embodiment of the invention illustrated in Figure 1 also incorporates a lid 2. The body of the bezel 1 is formed by a metal tube 3 bent U and having a flattened cross section with a face upper 4 and a lower face 5 substantially flat.
The ends 6 of the tube 3 are closed by plugs 8 of synthetic material. These plugs have orifices substantially aligned in a transverse direction and receiving a tilting axis 9, which also passes through orifices 10 in the tube 3 also aligned with the transverse orifices of the plugs 8. This tilting axis 9 is also preferably made of steel stainless. The tilting axis 9 is fixed to the plugs 5 by pins 11, preferably threaded.
Between the two ends 6 of the tube 3, the tilting axis 9 is received in transverse orifices of two studs 12 for fixing the bezel 1 to a bowl. The tilting pin 9 is rotatably mounted in these studs 12, which thus form tilting hinges of the body of the telescope 1. In the illustrated embodiment, each stud 12 is extended by a threaded rod 13, which, with a nut 14, preferably self-locking, and washers 15, preferably of elastomeric material, such as for example neoprene, form means for fixing the assembly to a toilet bowl. Screws 16 secure the tilting axis 9 relative to each pad 12 in a longitudinal direction of said tilting axis 9. The pads 12 may also be preferably made of stainless steel.
Although in the illustrated embodiment the inside of the metal tube 3 is empty, it could be filled with a solid material distinct from the material of the tube 3. Its rigidity and its mechanical strength could benefit from this, without necessarily increasing the cost and the weight proportionately. This solid material could be a synthetic foam. However, in alternative embodiments, this solid material could be another synthetic material, or even a granular material such as sand.
The lid 2 is pivotally attached to the tilting axis 9. In the illustrated embodiment, this lid is made of pressed stainless steel sheet, and has an orifice 18 serving as a handle for lifting the lid 2 without having to touch the body of the telescope 1 or the bowl. Although in the illustrated embodiment the lid has a rounded edge, it can alternatively be substantially rectangular, so as to facilitate production.
In the illustrated embodiment, both the upper face 4 of the tube and the cover 2 have etched surfaces 19, for displaying, for example, advertising messages of substantially unalterable form. These surfaces 19 may have been etched by laser, acid or embossed.
Tournant désormais vers la figure 2, des blocs amortisseurs 20, de préférence en matière plastique, telle qu'un élastomère comme le néoprène, sont fixés, par exemple par collage ou vissage, à la face inférieure 5 du tube 3.Turning now to FIG. 2, damping blocks 20, preferably of plastics material, such as an elastomer such as neoprene, are fixed, for example by gluing or screwing, to the lower face 5 of the tube 3.
Turning now to Figure 3, in a first step of the production process of the bezel 1, the metal tube 3, previously cut in the required length, is bent to give it the required U-shape. Then, if it is provided for example with a round section, it is flattened in a press 21, so as to form the upper and lower faces 4, 5 substantially flat. However, this step can be avoided if this metal tube 3 is already initially supplied with a flattened section. This same step can also be used to emboss the surface 19 of the upper face 4, although it could also be etched after laser or acid.
In the following step, the orifices 10 are machined in the ends 6 of the tube 3. The ends 6 are then closed with the plugs 8.
In parallel, a stainless steel sheet is cut, for example by laser, to produce the cover 2. A cylindrical bar of stainless steel is machined to produce the tilting axis 9, having chamfers at its ends, orifices transverse for its attachment to the plugs 8, and radial grooves for its rotatable mounting in the studs 12. With a plurality of such radial grooves, it is possible to adjust the position of the studs 12 in the tilting axis 9 in order to adapt the toilet seat to different bowls.
The studs 12 are also machined from stainless steel parts, in particular to create in each a through hole of the tilting axis 9, and a threaded orifice, perpendicular to the passage opening, and serving to receive screws 23 intended to cooperate with the radial grooves of the tilting axis 9 to fix it in a longitudinal direction relative to the stud 12, while allowing its rotation about this longitudinal direction.
The tube 3, the cover 2 and the studs 12 are then connected with the tilting pin 9. These parts are then fixed to each other by the pins 11 and the screws 16. The resulting assembly is therefore a telescope 1 of WC with lid 2 incorporated according to the embodiment illustrated in Figures 1 and 2 and can thus easily be mounted on a toilet bowl of standard dimensions.
Although the present invention has been described with reference to specific exemplary embodiments, it is obvious that modifications and changes can be made to these examples without changing the general scope of the invention as defined by the claims. Therefore, the description and drawings should be considered in an illustrative rather than restrictive sense.
