<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

The present invention relates to reinforcing elements of steel, suitable for use as reinforcements, for example metal sheets for the construction of concrete road or concrete slabs.
Nowadays, the construction of long sections of continuous concrete road requires a long reinforcement work, since the metal sheet is constructed using bars of a length of about 12m.
The subject of the present invention is a reinforcement element making it possible to reduce the assembly work of the reinforcement and to avoid bad reinforcement connections in the longitudinal direction.
The invention relates to a reinforcing element comprising a series of steel wires wound helically around a central core. This element comprises a central steel core covered by at least one layer formed by at least 6 steel notched wires wound in helices around the central core, said propellers having a pitch of between 125 mm and 400 mm, said element, called strand, being made of one or more steels ensuring on the one hand a breaking strength of between 800N / mm2 and 1400N / mm2, and on the other hand a straightness such that the maximum deflection is less than 25mm for a section of lm reinforcement element unrolled from a mandrel of a spool whose diameter is greater than 50 times the average diameter of the element.
By notched wire is meant a wire having a series of notches extending on the outer surface of the wire. The wire advantageously has a substantially circular core on which the notches extend. A notched wire is not a wire with an indentation, that is to say with a hollow imprint formed in the wire. The notched wire will preferably be substantially symmetrical. The notches, however, will be advantageously oriented in a direction forming an angle substantially
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
constant with respect to the central axis of the wire, this angle is for example between 2 and 60, for example between 5 and 45, in particular about 30.
The central body or core is advantageously a steel wire, this wire being smooth, serrated or with indentations. The central wire advantageously has a section at least equal to 1.03 times the average section of the adjacent notched threads. The average section of a serrated wire is determined by measuring the weight of a section of wire of a certain length. For example, for a length of 1 m of yarn, the section is calculated by the following formula: Volume (mm 3) / length (mm) = [1000 x Weight (g) / density (g / cm 3)] notched, for example, have a mean diameter of between 3 and 6 mm.
The pitch of the propellers is advantageously substantially constant and is in particular between 200 and 300 mm.
The element according to the invention may be of the monolayer type surrounding the central wire or the multi-layered skirt surrounding the central wire. For example, the element has a layer of six wires helically wrapped around the core wire. In another example, the element comprises two superimposed layers surrounding the central wire, the outer layer being formed of 9 notched son, while the inner layer is also formed by 9 son, this inner layer surrounding the central wire. The yarns of the inner layer may be smooth, notched or indented.
According to a preferred embodiment, the element is made of one or more steels providing, on the one hand, a tensile strength of between 1000N / mm 2 and 1300N / mm 2, and on the other hand, a straightness such as the maximum deflection is less than about 25mm (but desirably less than 20mm, or even less) for a length of reinforcement element lm unwound from a
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
mandrel of a coil whose diameter is greater than 50 times the average diameter of the element.
According to features of one embodiment, the notched threads of the layer furthest from the central core have on their outer face at least two series of notches, the notches of a series being carried by a longitudinal zone of the outer surface. distinct from the longitudinal zone of the outer surface which bears the notches of a second series, the notches having a height of between 0.25 and 0.6 mm, a width at the apex of between 1 and 1.5 mm, a length of between 3 and 5 mm, the notches being arranged one after the other with a pitch of between 3 and 6 mm.
The element advantageously has an average cross section of between 90 mm 2 and 200 mm 2.
According to an advantageous detail, the element has undergone thermomechanical treatment at a temperature of between 200 and 500 ° C., preferably between 350 ° and 450 ° C., said treatment being carried out continuously on the element subjected to an elongation of between 0.degree. 5 and 2%, preferably about 1%. Such a thermomechanical treatment is useful for relaxing certain constraints related to the manufacturing process, but also for increasing the maximum elasticity tension.
The element advantageously has a length of at least 100 meters, in particular at least 500 meters, preferably at least 1000 meters.
The invention also relates to the use of an element according to the invention to form a reinforcement in any structure of the concrete type, and therefore also a concrete product with a reinforcement at least partially formed with an element according to the invention .
The invention further covers the packaging of the element according to the invention in the form of a coil. The element is wound on the mandrel of the spool
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
with a minimum winding diameter of at least 50 times the diameter of the element. The coil thus carries a length of element that can be adapted as required, for example a length of 100m, 500m, 1000m, 2000m, 4000m, 5000m, 10000m or more.
Finally, another subject of the invention is a process for treating an element according to the invention, in which the successive portions of an element according to the invention are subjected to a heat treatment at a temperature of between 200 ° C. and 500 C with an elongation of between 0.5 and 2% for a time of 1 to 30 seconds, said portions once treated being subjected to a cooling step to lower the temperature of the treated portion to substantially immediately below 150 C .
Features and details of the invention will become apparent from the following detailed description in which reference is made to the accompanying drawings.
In these drawings, FIG. 1 is a longitudinal view of an element according to the invention; FIG. 2 is a sectional view (on a larger scale) of the element of FIG.
1; FIG. 3a is an enlarged view of a section of a serrated wire before it is placed helically around the central core, while FIG. 3b is a section along line A-A of the section of FIG. 3a; FIG. 4 is a schematic view of a reel according to the invention, and FIG. 5 is a sectional view along line V-V of the reel of FIG. 4.
The reinforcing element (7-wire) shown in Figures 1 and 2 comprises: - a smooth steel wire 1 forming the central core of the element, - a series of six notched steel son 2 forming a compact outer layer covering the central core 1.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
The average diameter of the steel wires 1,2 is for example about 4 to 5 mm. The average diameter of a notched wire is calculated on the basis of its weight per unit length. The diameter of the wire 1 is for example equal to about 1.03 to 1.05 times the average diameter of a notched wire.
The notched steel wires 2 are wound around the central core 1. Each wire 2 thus follows a helical path whose pitch P is substantially constant and corresponds to about 230 mm.
The son 2 have three rows of notches 20,21,22, each row extending substantially parallel to the central axis of the wire considered (see Figure 3 of the wire before positioning helically). The notches 20,21,22 extend on the outer surface of the wire at an angle α with respect to the central axis 24 of the wire considered (this angle corresponds to the angle between the central axis and the plane of symmetry 25 a notch).
The notches have, for example, a height h of about 0.4 mm, a width at the base LB of about 1.6 mm, a width at the top LS of about 1.2 mm, and a gap E between two successive notches of about 2.6mm (the notches are arranged along the wire with a PP pitch of about 4.2mm.
The rows of notches are for example arranged along longitudinal shifted by 120. The notches of a row are advantageously offset with respect to the longitudinal position of the notches of the other rows.
The notches have for example a length 1 corresponding to about 100 -120 of the circumference of the wire.
The total cross section of the element is for example about 90 to 200 mm 2, for a diameter of the element from 11 to 19 mm.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
During the helical placement of the wires 2 around the wire 1, the notches or teeth of the wires 2 are placed so as to form stoppers opposing longitudinal movements of the wires 2 with respect to the wire 1.
The element shown in Figures 1 and 2 is advantageously subjected to a heat treatment under tension. For example, the processing is performed continuously on successive portions of the element. This treatment is carried out, for example, at a temperature of approximately 400 ° C., while ensuring a tensile elongation of 1% of the portion during its heat treatment. The heat treatment is carried out for 10 seconds. After being treated, the portion is subjected to water spraying or passes into a water bath so as to reduce suddenly (almost instantaneously) to less than 100 ° C. This treatment allows to eliminate tensions present during the manufacture of the element, but also to increase the elastic limit for an elongation of less than 0.5%, for example for an elongation of 0.2%.
The material of the yarns 1,2 was chosen so that the breaking strength of the element was adjusted between 1100 and 1200 N / mm 2, and so that after being unrolled from a reel 10 with a central mandrel 11 (see FIGS. 4 and 5) with a diameter greater than 50 times the average diameter of the element, for example a mandrel diameter D equal to 75 cm, the maximum deflection for a section of an element lm is less than at 25mm.
Tests were carried out with strands according to the invention (tensile strength 1100N / mm 2, cross section of about 95 mm 2, peripheral serrated wires around a smooth steel wire) and with conventional bars of a diameter of the order of 14 - 16 mm.
In these tests, strands or bars were placed in concrete elements with an anchor length of 28 cm. The force required for the first slip, the stress at the first slip, the maximum force of
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
slip, the slip constraint to the maximum. In all cases, the adhesion or slip failure occurred well before the mechanical failure of the strands.
The results of tests (carried out by the Free University of Brussels, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Civil Engineering) (sliding according to the force applied) are the following (based on three measurements for the element according to the invention and based on two measures for conventional bars):

It can be seen from this table that the strand according to the invention after being unrolled from a reel makes it possible to obtain adhesion properties similar to those of
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
conventional concrete bars. Sliding force recording according to the slip for the strands according to the invention is indicative of a postcritical behavior with gradual loss of adhesion, similar to that of concrete bars.
The element according to the invention is then advantageously used to produce continuous longitudinal reinforcements for concrete road sections, this making it possible to reduce the assembly work of the reinforcement and to avoid bad reinforcement connections in the longitudinal direction.
