<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Stock of a long gun. The present invention relates to a wooden butt of a long gun.
Known wooden sticks are normally made of a solid piece, which makes some sticks relatively heavy, and have the consequence that the center of gravity of some weapons is located too far back.
The object of the present invention is to overcome this disadvantage and to provide a lighter wooden stock.
This object is achieved, according to the invention, by a stock comprising two half-sticks, hollowed out internally and assembled.
The butt being hollow is relatively light. In addition, the hollow is available to accommodate parts of a mechanism of the weapon. The lightening of the stock due to the recess somewhat compensates for the weight of these parts housed in this recess. The usual finish of the stock remains possible.
The joint plane between the two half-crosses preferably passes through the longitudinal axis of the stock and therefore of the weapon, in particular in the longitudinal plane of symmetry which is vertical when the weapon is in the firing position.
Preferably the inner wall of each half-stock is lined with a reinforced synthetic material, and for example lined with a carbon weft coated with resin, such as epoxy.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The reinforced synthetic material can also cover the edge of each half-stock directed towards the joint plane.
In the plastic joint thus formed, dowels, preferably made of wood, can be fixed in order to receive screws for fixing a base plate.
The two half-sticks are preferably assembled by gluing.
For clarity, an exemplary embodiment of a butt of a long gun according to the invention is described below by way of illustration and not limitation, reference being made to the accompanying drawings in which: FIG. 1 represents a long gun butt according to the invention, with the butt plate before its installation; Figure 2 is a section along the line II-II of Figure 1; Figure 3 shows in cross section the two half-crosses of the stick of the previous figures, before their assembly.
FIG. 1 represents the wooden stock 1 of a long gun with the layer plate 2 made of polymer, rubber or any other material to be fixed by two screws 3 at the rear end of the stock 1.
The butt 1 is hollow and composed of two halves or half-crosses 4 and 5 internally hollowed out, the inner wall of which is lined with a reinforcing layer 6 formed by a weft of fibers, in particular carbon fibers, coated with a resin especially a resin

epoxy. This layer 6 provides the rigidity necessary for the stock 1 and restores the rigidity lost by the recess.
The edges of each half-stock 4 and 5, at the joint plane, are also covered with layer 6, as shown in Figures 2 and 3.
The two half-sticks 4 and 5 thus upholstered are glued together by their edges using an adhesive, in particular an adhesive with two components such as an adhesive based on polyurethane, epoxy, acrylic or any other component.
Other assembly methods can be envisaged while remaining within the scope of the invention.
After assembly, the joint between the two half-crosses 4 and 5 is located in a vertical plane.
The thickness of wood of each half-stock 4 or 5 remains sufficient, to allow a finish.
The joint plane between the two half-stocks 4 and 5, which corresponds to the section plane along line II-II in FIG. 2, passes through the longitudinal axis of the stock 1 and therefore of the weapon including the stock 1 is one of them, and extends in a vertical plane when this weapon is in the firing position. Two wooden dowels 7 were fixed in holes which were made at the rear end of the assembled buttstock 1, these holes being located essentially in the joint formed by the layers 6. The dowels 7 receive the screws 3 fixing the plate layer 2 on butt 1.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
Once assembled, the stock 1 can be fixed by its front end to the rocker of a weapon, this front end, forming a fork in order to receive a part of the mechanism of the weapon.
The invention is however applicable to other models of stocks, for example for other types of long guns.
Lacrosse 1 is much lighter than a solid wooden lacrosse but remains sufficiently rigid thanks to layer 6.
In the hollow of the butt 1, parts of the mechanism of the weapon can be mounted.
It is obvious that the invention is in no way limited to the embodiment described above but that numerous modifications can be made to the stock described above without departing from the scope of the invention.
