Abstract

The butt, made from two hollow halves (4, 5) joined together along the lengthwise axis of the firearm, has the inner surface of each half and their joined edges coated with a layer (6) of a reinforced synthetic material. The rear end of the joint is fitted with dowels (7), preferably of wood, to receive the end plate fixing screws (3).

Description

The present invention relates to a wooden stick of a long gun.

Known wooden stocks are normally made of a massive piece, which makes some butts relatively heavy, and have the consequence that the center of gravity of some weapons is located too far back.

The purpose of the present invention is to overcome this disadvantage and to provide a lighter wooden stock.

This object is achieved, in accordance with the invention, by a stock comprising two half sticks, hollowed out internally and assembled.

The butt being hollow is relatively light. In addition the hollow is available to accommodate parts of a weapon mechanism. Lacrosse relief due to the hollow somewhat compensates for the weight of these parts housed in this hollow. The usual finish of the stock remains possible.

The joint plane between the two half-crosses goes from preferably by the longitudinal axis of the stick and therefore of the weapon, especially in the plane of symmetry longitudinal which is vertical when the weapon is in firing position.

Preferably the inner wall of each half-stock is upholstered with reinforced synthetic material, and by example covered with a carbon frame coated with resin, such as epoxy.

Reinforced synthetic material can also cover the edge of each buttstock directed towards the joint plane.

In the plastic joint thus formed, pegs, preferably wooden, can be attached to to receive screws for fixing a butt plate.

The two half-sticks are preferably assembled by collage.

For clarity, an exemplary embodiment of a butt of a long gun according to the invention is described below by way of illustration and not limitation, reference being made to the appended drawings in which:

FIG. 1 represents a long gun butt stock according to the invention, with the butt plate before its installation;

Figure 2 is a section along the line II-II of Figure 1;

Figure 3 shows in cross section the two half-crosses of the stick of the previous figures, before their assembly.

Figure 1 shows the wooden stock 1 of a weapon shoulder with the layer 2 polymer plate, in rubber or any other material to be fixed with two screws 3 at the rear end of the stick 1.

The butt 1 is hollow and composed of two halves or half-sticks 4 and 5 internally hollowed out, the wall of which interior is upholstered with a layer 6 of reinforcement formed by a weft of fibers, in particular fibers of carbon, coated with a resin, in particular a resin epoxy. This layer 6 provides the rigidity necessary for the butt 1 and restores the rigidity lost by the recess.

The edges of each half stock 4 and 5, at the plane are also upholstered with layer 6, like the show Figures 2 and 3.

The two half-sticks 4 and 5 thus upholstered are glued together by their edges using glue, particular of a two-component glue such as glue based on polyurethane, epoxy, acrylic or any other component.

Other assembly methods can be envisaged while remaining within the scope of the invention.

After assembly, the joint between the two half-crosses 4 and 5 is located in a vertical plane.

The thickness of wood of each half-stock 4 or 5 remains sufficient to allow a finish.

The joint plane between the two half-crosses 4 and 5, which corresponds to the section plane along line II-II at the Figure 2, passes through the longitudinal axis of the butt 1 and therefore of the weapon of which the stock 1 forms part of it, and extends in a vertical plane when this weapon is in firing position.

Two wooden dowels 7 were fixed in holes which were made at the rear end of the butt 1 assembly, these holes being located essentially in the joint formed by the layers 6. The pegs 7 receive the screws 3 fixing the layer plate 2 to the butt 1.

Once assembled, the stock 1 can be fixed by its front end at the rocker of a weapon, this end front, forming a fork to receive part of the weapon mechanism.

The invention is however applicable to other models of butts for example for other types of long guns.

Stock 1 is much lighter than a solid stock made of wood but remains sufficiently rigid thanks to the layer 6.

In the hollow of the butt 1, parts of the the weapon can be mounted.

It is obvious that the invention is in no way limited to the embodiment described above but that many modifications can be made to the stock described above without going beyond the ambit of the invention.

Claims (9)

Wooden stock of a long gun, characterized in that that it includes two half-sticks (4 and 5), hollowed out internally and assembled. Stock according to claim 1, characterized in that the joint plane between the two half-crosses (4 and 5) passes by the longitudinal axis of the stock (1) and therefore of the weapon of which the stock (1) is a part. Stock according to claim 2, characterized in that the above joint plane is located in the plane of symmetry longitudinal of the butt (1), which is vertical when the weapon is in firing position. Stock according to either of the claims previous, characterized in that the inner wall of each half stock (4,5) is lined with a material reinforced synthetic. Stock according to claim 4, characterized in that the half-crosses (4 and 5) are lined with a weft of carbon fiber coated with a resin. Stock according to claim 5, characterized in that the half-crosses (4 and 5) are lined with a weft of carbon fiber coated with epoxy. Stock according to either of the claims previous, characterized in that the synthetic material reinforced also covers the edge of each half stock (4,5) directed towards the joint plane. Stock according to either of the claims previous, characterized in that in the joint in synthetic material thus formed, dowels (7), preferably in wood, are fixed in order to receive screws fixing (3) of a layer plate (2). Stock according to either of the claims previous, characterized in that the two half-sticks (4 and 5) are assembled by gluing.
