<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Insulation joint for door, window or the like
The present invention relates to a seal for a door, window or the like, used in the production of the frames of such assemblies, in particular to ensure air and water tightness between the constituent elements of these frames, generally metal profiles or of another material, in particular plastic and to ensure thermal insulation between the outside and the inside through these frames, for example between the movable leaf and the fixed frame of such a door or window.
It is well known in the art of making chassis of this kind by means of metal profiles in particular, to implement various arrangements which aim to ensure the most effective isolation possible between the exterior and the interior, in order to '' avoid the transmission of calories through the door or window comprising this frame.
Thus, conventionally used insulating bars, of plastic material, generally of polyamide or other, which separate the outer or inner walls or fabrics which form the opposite surfaces of these profiles, these bars having the aim of limiting the heat transfer. from one canvas to another in these spaces.
In particular, various solutions have been proposed to improve the desired thermal insulation, which consist, as the case may be, in reducing the width of the metal profiles and their heat exchange surfaces, the thickness of the strips as well as their conductivity, and also in increase their length. These solutions, including patents EP-A-0 100 824, EP-A-0 556 600, EP-A-0 556 601, EP-A-0 560 193, EP-A-0 600 240, as well as patents German DE-A-34 20 903 and DE-A-42 38 750, illustrate by way of examples various embodiments, are not entirely satisfactory.
The subject of the present invention is an improvement which makes it possible to significantly improve the performance of these arrangements with regard to the thermal insulation provided.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
for the corresponding chassis, this improvement making it possible in particular to reduce the losses observed by radiation.
To this end, the invention relates to a seal, provided to insulate between two profiles of a door frame, window or the like, characterized in that it comprises, on at least one of its surfaces, a thin film of a reflective and / or low-emissivity material.
Depending on the case, the joint considered may be full or hollow. In addition, the film of reflective and / or low-emissivity material can be provided on the exterior or interior surface of the seal, if necessary on its two faces.
Preferably, the film of reflective and / or low-emissivity material is attached and bonded to the surface of the joint.
As a variant, this film can be co-extruded with the seal.
According to the invention, the film can be constituted by a thin aluminum sheet. This film can also be reinforced with a glass fiber weft, in particular to avoid tearing.
Alternatively, the film may consist of a thin layer of a polymeric material, of the "Mylar" type, or formed of a polyolefin or an equivalent material, one face of which is preferably metallized.
The joint can be extruded flat, with or without the reflective and / or low-emissivity film, before being folded so as to join its ends to form a hollow joint, the film being arranged inside the latter. Where appropriate, the hollow joint is formed during its mounting in the profiles of the frame, and comprises locking heels in support grooves formed in these profiles, so as to immobilize the joint by joining its ends.
Other characteristics of an insulation joint for sealing a door, window or similar frame, established in accordance with the invention, will become more apparent from the following description of several exemplary embodiments, given by way of indication and nonlimiting, with reference to the appended drawings in which:
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Figure 1 is a schematic view in partial cross section and in perspective of a door or window frame, comprising insulation joints according to the invention.
- Figures 2 and 3 are detailed views of two of the joints used in the production of the chassis of Figure 1.
- Figures 4 and 5 respectively illustrate a flat seal comprising on one of its surfaces a reflective and / or low-emissivity film and the same folded joint to form a tubular element.
- Figures 6 and 7 relate to another variant of a seal according to the invention.
In FIG. 1, the reference 1 designates as a whole a window or door frame, of which the frame 2 and the leaf 3 are formed using metal profiles 4 and 5, the details of which are produced and in in particular the structure and the relative arrangement of the fabrics 6 which constitute them, do not directly matter to the invention.
In the profiles 4 and 5 of the frame 2 and the opening 3, are mounted isolation bars 7, made of polyamide or other similar plastic material, which extend in pairs between 6 parallel fabrics, these bars contributing to the achievement of thermal insulation between the outside and the inside of the door or window, through the frame.
Joints are also provided in sections 4 and 5, the mounting of these joints being in itself perfectly conventional in the technique of construction of such chassis.
Thus, the opening 3 includes lip seals 8 for sealing the chassis vis-à-vis a glazed wall 9 carried by this opening. Other seals, respectively 10 and 11 are carried, for one by the frame 2, for the other by the opening 3, and are arranged so as to come to bear against bearing surfaces when the opening 3 is closed on the frame 2.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The seal 10, carried by the fixed frame 2, has its free end 13 bearing on a transverse extension 14 of one of the isolation bars 7 of the opening, the seal 11, carried by the latter, being directly applied to one of the fixed fabrics 6 of the frame, the application of the opening thereon delimiting between these joints and the fabrics of the profiles a blade or closed space 15, filled with air, through which one wishes, in accordance with the invention, reduce the heat transfer from the inside to the outside of the chassis, or vice versa, by reflecting the radiated calories received by the joint in one direction and by preventing this joint from radiating itself in turn. the opposite direction.
For this purpose and according to the invention, the seal 10 and, where appropriate, the seals 8 and / or 11 are produced, so that these have one of their surfaces, in this case their outer surface, as illustrated. in FIGS. 2 and 3, a thin film 16 of a reflecting and / or low-emitting material, creating through the space 15 a transmission barrier, by reflecting the heat radiation in the direction of the interior of the room closed by the door or window, and avoiding that this joint, which nevertheless heats up slightly due to the fact that this reflection is not total, radiates in turn, this time outwards.
The film 16 can be formed by an aluminum sheet, the thickness of which is of the order of 10 to 15 microns, this film possibly incorporating a glass fiber weft to prevent it from tearing. As a variant, this film may consist of a sheet of a polymeric material, of the "Mylar" type, or of a polyolefin, metallized or not.
Preferably, the joint thus coated with its reflective and / or low-emissivity film is a tubular joint as shown in the. Figures 4 and 5, the body of the seal 17 in flexible material, in particular synthetic rubber of the EPDM type (Ethylene, Propylene, Diene, Monomer), or a mixture of natural and synthetic rubber, or else a
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
Thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), or a silicone, is made flat and coated with thin film 18, which can be attached and glued to the joint, or else coextruded simultaneously with the latter.
The joint thus formed of the body 17 and of the film 18 comprises at its ends means for mutual attachment, in particular a stud and a groove 19 and 20, suitable for joining these ends by engagement of one into the other as shown in la-Figure 5.
As a variant, as can be seen in FIGS. 6 and 7, the body of the flat seal 17 with its reflective and / or low-emissivity film 18 includes anchoring heels 21, 22 in the face opposite the film, these heels making it possible to securing the joint of any fabric 6 by abutting the two ends 23 of this joint to close the tubular element produced.
The invention improves in these conditions in a particularly clear manner the thermal insulation created between two parts of a door or window frame, in particular between a frame and an opening, by making it possible to reduce the size of these joints and the length of the classic insulating bars joining the opposite external and internal fabrics of the profiles.
Of course, it goes without saying that the invention is not limited to the exemplary embodiments more particularly described above with reference to the accompanying drawings; on the contrary, it embraces all its variants.
