<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
Met het inzicht de kenmerken van de uitvinding beter aan te tonen, zijn hierna als voorbeeld zonder enig beperkend karakter enkele voorkeurdragende uitvoeringsvormen beschreven met verwijzing naar de bijgaande tekeningen, waarin : figuur 1 in doorsnede een profiel weergeeft dat omge- ven is met een hittewerende bekleding volgens de uit- vinding ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

Heat-resistant coating for profiles and the like. The present invention relates to a heat-resistant coating for profiles and the like, more especially profiles such as are generally used in the construction of buildings.
Profiles in all kinds of materials and shapes are frequently used as load-bearing elements in all kinds of constructions. It is well known that the strength, in particular the carrying capacity, of these profiles decreases under the influence of heat. This can lead to serious problems when the profile is exposed to extreme heat, such as in the case of a fire, for example, because the load-bearing capacity of the profile can decrease to such an extent that the construction carried by the profile is seriously damaged or even completely destroyed.
It is known to apply heat-resistant coatings to the profiles in order to solve this problem.
Heat-resistant coatings are already known which are formed by elements made of a non-flammable or poorly heat-conducting material, which are placed flat against each other at the corners and which are attached to each other by gluing or by stapling.
A drawback of the known coatings consists in the fact that the application of this coating is time consuming and not easy. Also, the sealing between the elements from which the cover is made is not always sufficient, so that the cover offers less protection against heat.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The present invention has as its object a heat-resistant coating for profiles and the like, which does not show the aforementioned and other disadvantages.
More specifically, the invention contemplates a heat-resistant coating which allows a corner joint which has the following advantages over the traditional flat manner of corner joint: - a joint surface that is twice as large as in a flat joint, such that stronger bonding is possible, so that the adhesion is less likely to come off under the influence of high temperatures; - a road that is difficult to follow through the smoke, in particular a non-rectilinear road where different angles have to be taken; - a longer journey through the smoke, causing a delay effect.
These additional intended advantages are of particular importance when the interior of the cladding communicates with other spaces or with smoke sensitive elements.
In order to achieve the aforementioned objects, the invention provides a heat-resistant coating for profiles, characterized in that it mainly consists of panels made of a poorly heat-conducting material, which surround at least two sides of the profile to be coated, these panels interlock where they form a corner.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
In a preferred embodiment, both panels where they form a corner, are provided with mutually co-acting profiling, such as for instance a tongue and groove.
In a particularly preferred embodiment, the panels are provided with such profiling on at least two opposite edges.
The advantage of the heat-resistant cladding according to the invention is that it consists of panels which are easy to manufacture and which can be fastened to each other in a very convenient manner. This coating forms a well-sealed protective layer in this way, so that a profile surrounded by it is better protected from a possible heat source and will therefore retain its mechanical properties for longer at extreme temperatures.
With the insight to better demonstrate the features of the invention, some preferred embodiments are described hereinafter, without any limitation, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: figure 1 shows in cross section a profile surrounded by a heat-resistant coating according to the invention;
Figures 2 and 3 show on a larger scale a cross-section of the constituent panels of the heat-resistant coating according to Figure 1; figures 4 and 5 show in cross section two variants of the heat-resistant coating according to figure 1; Figure 6 is a larger-scale sectional view of one of the cladding constituent panels shown in Figure 5.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
Figure 1 shows a profile 1 which is surrounded by a heat-resistant coating 2 according to the invention.
In this embodiment, the heat-resistant lining 2 consists of panels, 3 and 4, on the one hand, and 5 and 6, on the other, which are equal to each other.
These panels 3-4-5-6, as shown in detail in Figures 2 and 3, are profiled near two opposite side edges.
In the panels 3 and 4, the profiles are formed by grooves 7 which run parallel to the longitudinal side edges 8.
In the panels 5 and 6, the profiles are formed by teeth 9 on the side edges 10. Each tooth 9 is formed in that a recess 11 is provided on the relevant side edge 8 of the panel 5-6. The tooth 9 is here with one side in line with a side surface 12 of the panel 5-6.
In the illustrated embodiment, such a tooth 9 has a width B1 which is equal to half the thickness D1 of the panel 5-6. Preferably, the height H of the tooth 9 is also equal to half the thickness of the relevant panel 5-6.
The corresponding groove 7 has a depth D2 and a width B2, which are also equal to half a thickness of the panel 3-4. Each groove 7 is at a distance E from the associated side edge 8, which is equal to the thickness D1 of the panels used, less the width B1 of a tooth 9.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
This embodiment results in an increased strength of the connection between the panels 3,4, 5 and 6, because the narrow edge 13 of the groove 7 in this case is wider and thus more sturdy than in an embodiment in which the tooth 9 is in the middle of the side 8 of the panel 5-6 would be located.
The panels 3-4-5-6 are fitted around the profile 1 by pressing the panels together with their tongue and groove profiling, possibly under slight pressure. The tolerances of the profiles may be such that the panels clamp together firmly in this way, but it is clear that additional known fasteners such as glue connections, staples or the like can be provided.
It is clear that the coating according to the invention can be used on all kinds of profiles. Such profile 1 can be manufactured from all kinds of materials, such as for instance steel, wood, or reinforced concrete, and can have all kinds of shapes such as for instance a 1-profile U-profile, or an L-profile.
The panels will usually be in the form of elongated plates, but other shapes, such as tiles, are not excluded.
For panels in the form of plates, the profiles are located on a longitudinal side edge of the panel, if necessary on the two opposite longitudinal side edges. With tiles, all edges are provided with a profiling so that the tiles can interlock on all sides.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
The panels are made of a poorly heat-conducting material, such as, for example, plaster or cement, with or without admixtures. The thickness of the panels is known in the manner of the person skilled in the art, depending on the physical and mechanical properties of the material and the desired resistance that the coating must offer against heat.
It goes without saying that the dimensions of the constituent panels 3-4-5-6 must be adapted to the dimensions of the profile 1 to be coated. The necessary dimensions can simply be determined by those skilled in the art by measuring.
The panels can be preformed, t. t. z. have already been provided with the necessary profiling in advance, whereby the length of the panels may then only have to be adjusted on site. The panels can of course also be provided with the desired profiling at the location, for example by milling the tongue 9 and groove 7 on the panel, for example 3-4-5-6.
The aforementioned panels from which the heat-resistant lining according to the embodiment are manufactured are also part of the present invention.
A variant of the embodiment represented in figure 1 is shown in figure 4. Here the heat-resistant coating 2 surrounding the profile 1 is of a similar shape as in figure 1, but is rotated through an angle of 9 °.
This embodiment offers the advantage that the covering 2 is arranged around a horizontally arranged profile
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
1 is greatly facilitated because first the panel 6 provided with the tooth profiling can be arranged on top of the profile 1, to which the panels 3 and 5 can then be clamped on both sides with the groove 7. In this way the three aforementioned panels already hang around the profile 1, so that the installation of the last panel 4 is facilitated. In this version, the tongue and groove connection can no longer slide apart under its own weight.
In a variant of the above-described embodiments, as shown in Figures 5 and 6, the heat-resistant cladding 2 is formed by only one type of constituent panels 14, which are provided with different profiling on each opposite side edges 15 through a tooth 9 and a groove 7, as shown in figure 6.
This embodiment offers the advantage that for covering a profile 1 with sides of equal dimensions only a single embodiment of the panel 14 is required. This of course brings practical advantages, for example, because only one type of panels has to be kept in stock.
As a profiling, only one type formed by a tongue and groove has been described above, but it is clear that the heat-resistant coating according to the invention may be composed of panels which interlock with other forms of profiling.
It is clear that the present invention is by no means limited to the exemplary embodiments described and shown in the accompanying figures, but in
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
various shapes, sizes and designs can be realized without departing from the scope of the invention.
