<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

EMI1.1
Closure cap for an orifice made in a protective envelope ------------------------------------- --The present invention relates to a plug made of elastic material, in particular rubber, silicone, ...
This plug is used to close a hole drilled in the protection or thermal protection envelope surrounding a conduit, a pipe, ...
This plug comprises a body extending between, on the one hand, an end carrying a protuberance intended to bear on an interior face of the orifice when the plug closes said orifice, and, on the other hand, an end carrying a flange.
In one embodiment, the body is a sleeve provided with an element or a plate closing the passage defined by the sleeve. This element or flat advantageously closes the sleeve in the vicinity of its end carrying said protuberance. The rim extends over the external wall of the sleeve, or more exactly of the part of the plug facing outwards when the plug closes the orifice.
The rim is advantageously provided with a means for promoting the deformability of a part of the rim. One such means is for example an ear secured to the rim. Such an ear is advantageously attached to a part of the rim adjacent to the face of the rim intended to bear on the outer wall of the protective envelope. Such an ear preferably has a thickness less than the thickness

maximum edge.
According to an advantageous embodiment, the flange has at least one channel. The presence of such a channel creates an area of greater deformability. The channel advantageously extends in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the sleeve.
According to a preferred embodiment, the channel delivers passage to a part of a gripping element, for example to a ring of a chain. Such an element further facilitates the deformation of part of the rim and therefore the removal of the plug from the orifice.
According to yet another embodiment, the sleeve comprises an element closing the sleeve in the vicinity of its end carrying the protuberance (end engaged in the orifice). This element forms the bottom of a bowl open on the side of the end of the sleeve carrying the rim. In this embodiment, a plate is introduced into the bowl and is supported on the inner wall of the bowl. Such a plate made of a more rigid material than the sleeve, for example rigid plastic, metal, etc., makes it possible to stiffen the end of the sleeve carrying the protuberance. This plate is advantageously adjacent to the bottom of the bowl or even touches said bottom.
Special features and details of the invention will emerge from the following description in which reference is made to the accompanying drawings.
In these drawings, - Figure 1 is a sectional view of a first embodiment; - Figure 2 is a top view of the embodiment shown in Figure 1; FIG. 3 is a sectional view of a second embodiment, and
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
- Figure 4 is a top view of the embodiment shown in Figure 3.
Figure 1 shows a protective envelope comprising a thermal insulation mat 1 and an aluminum outer wall. In this envelope is pierced an orifice 3 to allow a local inspection of a pipe (not shown). A metal eyelet 4 covers the cutting edges in the envelope and at least partially forms the internal wall 5 of the orifice. This eyelet has a deformation 6 ensuring that the eyelet 4 is held in place.
The plug 7 is intended to close the orifice 3. This plug is made of an elastic material, for example rubber or silicone. This plug comprises a sleeve 8 extending between, on the one hand, an end 9 carrying an annular protuberance 10 intended to bear on the deformation 6 of the internal wall 5 of the orifice when the plug 7 closes said orifice, and on the other hand, one end 11 carrying a rim 12 intended to bear on the external wall 2 of the protective envelope and / or of the eyelet 4.
The sleeve is provided with an element 13 closing the internal passage of the sleeve so as to define a bowl 14. The bottom of the bowl is formed by said element 13. This bowl is open on the side of the end 11 carrying the rim 12 .
The rim 12 is provided with a means for promoting the deformability of at least part of it.
In the embodiment of FIG. 1, the rim is annular and extends appreciably between two faces 15, 16 parallel to each other, a first face 16 being intended to bear on the external wall 2 of the protective envelope, while the second side
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
15 is facing outward when the plug closes the orifice. The rim 12 has a maximum thickness em defined between said first and second faces 15, 16. The means for promoting the deformability of at least part of the rim is an ear 17 attached to a part of the rim 12 adjacent to the first face and having a thickness e less than the maximum thickness em of the rim 12.
The ear 17 has a face 18 situated in the extension of the first face 16 of the rim 12, and a hole 19 providing passage to a chain 20, one end of which is attached to a fastening means 21 secured to the casing 2. This chain serves as a gripping means and makes it possible to avoid losing the plug when it is removed from the orifice.
Figure 3 shows an embodiment similar to that shown in Figure 1, but with the following differences.
The rim 12 has a channel 22 to create a zone of greater deformability. This channel 22 extends in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the sleeve AA and perpendicular to a radial R to said sleeve 8.
This channel gives passage at least partially to a gripping element 20.
A plate, in the form of a disc 23, made of a more rigid material than the sleeve 8 is engaged in the bowl 14 to stiffen the end 9 of the sleeve 8 carrying the protrusion 10. The disc 23, for example metallic, is adjacent to the bottom 13 of the bowl and touches it, as well as the walls of the bowl 14.
The bowl 14 has an annular lip 24 as a means for retaining the disc in the bowl.
