<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>
<Desc/Clms Page number 12>
<Desc/Clms Page number 13>
<Desc/Clms Page number 14>
<Desc/Clms Page number 15>
<Desc/Clms Page number 16>

Plug and socket for a pluggable electrical connector
The present invention relates to a pluggable electrical connector, consisting of a plug and a socket, the electrical connection being made by inserting the plug or its contacts in the opening of the corresponding socket. The plug and socket have corresponding electrical connections.
A plug-in connector of this type is known, for example from document DE-A-35 12 026.
In the known plug connector, the space in which the contact takes place must in particular be closed in an airtight manner. To this end, a special geometrical configuration is provided for the contact pins of the plug.
Document DE-A-37 28 739 discloses another plug-in connector which has a protection called EMP ("electromagnetic pulse" = electromagnetic pulse) or NEMP protection ("nuclear electro-magnetic pulse" = nuclear electromagnetic pulse). ) for the plug and socket.
Thanks to the protection device, which essentially consists of a connection of the contact pins with each other and with the body of the box, external electromagnetic fields are excluded, which could occasionally cause erroneous switching inside the electrical device. connected to the connector, which, for example in the case of a plug-in connector for arming equipment, could cause false ignitions.
The plug and the socket of the known connector have a multitude of contact pins arranged parallel to each other, which are mutually connected in the inserted state.
Besides these plug-in connectors, there is also a type of connector in which the contacts are not formed by contact pins, but by contact strips on the peripheral face of the corresponding parts.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The present invention therefore aims to provide a plug-in electrical connector of the type mentioned above which allows, like the connector according to document DE-A 37 28 739, an HF seal, that is to say an EMP protection. The connector must be designed in such a way that it can be plugged in and taken down easily and reliably, even during rapid plugging operations.
An important aspect of the invention consists in protecting the parts of the plug connector against electromagnetic disturbing rays by the fact that the plug or, as the case may be, the socket are configured so that they respectively form a kind of Faraday cage with the constructive elements connected. The space inside the cage (of the plug, of the socket) can thus be protected from electromagnetic disturbing rays.
This is achieved in the first place by a device inside the housing of the plug and of the socket which, in the unplugged state, provides an electrical connection from the housing which extends transversely through the other constructive elements. .
In its most general embodiment, the plug is characterized by the following characteristics: - a cylindrical metal case, one end of which is open towards the corresponding socket, - an insulating body disposed inside the case and extending substantially coaxially to the latter, - which has several contact strips on its surface at one of its ends (towards the socket), ct - which is provided, at its other end (towards the bottom of the plug), with electrical connections, - a metal plate passing through the insulating body between the contact strips and the electrical connections, as well as, - an axially sliding sheath, arranged between the insulating body and the housing, which is configured so that,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
- in the non-plugged-in state, it provides a continuous electrical connection between a ground connection of the housing and the metal plate.
The corresponding socket is characterized by the following characteristics: - cylindrical metal casing, one end of which is open towards the corresponding plug, - insulating body disposed inside the casing and extending substantially coaxially with the latter, - which has several strips contact on its surface, at one of its ends (towards the plug), - a metal plate passing through the insulating body between the contact strips, as well as - a sheath disposed between the insulating body and the housing, in the end of the side of the bottom of which electrical connection contacts are arranged internally and which is, moreover, configured so that, - in the not plugged-in state,
it provides a continuous electrical connection between a ground connection of the housing and the contact points of the metal plate.
There is thus provided, for the two parts (plug, socket) an electrical connection between the housing and the respective metal plate arranged in the insulating body and specially configured and a type of electrically conductive cage (Faraday cage) is therefore provided which , in the unplugged state of the parts, provides reliable protection against electromagnetic disturbing rays.
We obtain, both with the achievement of the goal proposed in the invention and with the configuration described similar to a Faraday cage, that the electrical connection extends in the region located in the vicinity of the opening of the housing, as it will be described in more detail later.
Before describing advantageous embodiments of the parts according to the invention, it will be indicated, in order to be complete, that the sheet has, on its part penetrating the
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
sleeve (sheath), an inner diameter which is equal to or slightly greater than the outer diameter of the corresponding insulating horn in the sleeve and equal to or slightly less than the inner diameter of the sleeve housing. In addition, the movable parts of the plug and of the socket have respective stops which delimit the axial sliding stroke, in particular in the non-plugged-in state, or which determine the optimum depth of insertion of the parts and, consequently also, the contacting of the plug and the socket, which will be described in more detail below.
If necessary, the plug and socket can be fixed in position in the plugged-in state using known screw connections.
Both the plug and the socket are, preferably on their parts located respectively on the bottom side, electrically connected using corresponding supply lines.
While the contact strips are arranged in a fixed position on the insulating bodies, the sliding ability of the sheath in the plug or, as the case may be, of the insulating body in the socket ensures that, when the plug and the plug are fitted socket one inside the other, the respective contact strips are transferred to a position such that an electrical connection is provided between the corresponding contact strips in the plug and in the socket via associated connection elements , which will be described in detail later.
Conversely, the parts are arranged so that in the not inserted state, the contact strips of the plug and of the socket are respectively insulated from each other and that there is no electrical connection with the associated boxes.
As regards the arrangement of the electrical connections provided on the bottom side, the invention provides, in an advantageous embodiment, for short-circuiting each other in groups which can be preselected at will, in order to eliminate any residual charges in capacitors associated, which, in a similar way to in-
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
external electromagnetic fluids, could cause erroneous pulses in the electronic equipment and, consequently for example, a firing by mistake.
For a more detailed explanation, see in particular the attached embodiment.
The electrical connection continues with a view to. forming the Faraday cage can be obtained in different ways. According to an advantageous embodiment, it is provided that a number of contact elements corresponding to the number of contact strips or electrical connections is located in the sheath of the plug and this, so that in the state not plugged in, at least one section is applied, each time, against the housing and another section against the metal plate. The configuration of the contact elements is carried out in such a way that, in the plugged-in state, at least one section comes into contact with the associated contact strip each time and another section with the corresponding electrical connection.
It is therefore particularly advantageous to conform the contact elements in triple leaf springs, with two contact blades in the direction of the insulating body to come into contact with the metal plate in the not inserted state or, as the case may be, to enter contact with the associated contact strip and the electrical connection associated with the inserted state, while the third contact strip is directed towards the housing, to come into contact with the housing in the non-inserted state. It is thus possible to obtain different functions, depending on the state of insertion, with a single constructive element. This simplifies constructive activity.
The contact strips are preferably prestressed so that they constantly and reliably apply against the associated contact faces. At the same time, the housing, for example, is configured so that the associated contact strip, in the plugged-in state, no longer has a contact zone with the housing, in order to prevent a short circuit in the operating position. .
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
By having an insulating ring between the internal contact strips, on the internal side of the sheath of the plug, it is obtained that in the inserted state, the metal plate no longer has an electrical connection with the contact elements. In the plugged-in state, the current path should only be made between the corresponding contact strips of the socket and plug, or with the corresponding electrical connections.
The electrical connections in the plug can have almost any shape. An embodiment is preferred in which the electrical connections are made in the form of contact pins, which are inserted at a distance from each other in the insulating body of the plug and which have, in the contact region towards the contact elements, a metal base extending to the surface of the insulating body, while at the opposite end, they protrude from the bottom of the plug, for connection to electrical lines leading to an associated control and / or regulation unit.
Due to the previously described geometry of the plug, the electrical connections in the socket are arranged outside the insulating body of the latter, preferably in the sheath fixedly arranged.
To this end, the invention proposes as a possible embodiment, making the electrical connections on the bottom side in the form of contact pins, which extend through the bottom and continue in the form of metal strips in the sheath and which, at their opposite free end, are provided with corresponding contact zones, which can again be configured as leaf springs.
In order, as for the plug, to allow here also a short circuit between the electrical connections in the not plugged-in state and thus to obtain a discharge in the connected capacitors, the insulating body of the socket has, according to an advantageous embodiment, an annular metal ring
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
laire, at its end on the bottom side, which, in the non-plugged state, comes into contact with the leaf springs and thus short-circuits them.
The connection of the metal plate with the housing is preferably effected by the fact that a contact ring is inserted in the sheath of the socket, a ring from which individual contacts project inwardly (towards of the insulating body), and which is made outwards (in the direction of the housing) with an annular contact strip. The arrangement of the individual contacts is such that they are opposite the corresponding faces of the metal plate in the unplugged state, to then allow an electrical connection from a connection to the ground of the housing up to the metal plate passing through the housing, the contact strip and the individual contacts, and thus an EMP or NEMP protection.
On the other hand, in the plugged-in state, there is no electrical connection between the individual contacts and the contact strips on the surface of the insulating body, since the individual contacts (and correspondingly the contact faces of the metal plate) are precisely between the contact strips (in the peripheral direction of the insulating body).
Finally, there are provided in the region of the opening of the socket, contact elements for the electrical connection of the contact strips of the socket and the plug, in corresponding recesses on the inner face of the sheath, elements which are preferably again shaped into contact strips. But we could just as easily choose another form of contact elements. The contact elements of the socket are arranged electrically insulated from the contact ring.
While in the plug, the insulating body is fixedly arranged and the sheath is inserted with the possibility of sliding between the housing and the insulating body, it is exactly the opposite in the socket, that is to say that the body insulating
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
inside there is preferably mounted resiliently relative to the bottom, while the sheath is inserted fixedly between the insulating body and the housing. During insertion, the fixed insulating body of the plug pushes the sliding insulating body of the socket backwards (towards the bottom), while the sheath of the plug is moved, against the resistance of the sheath fixedly inserted from the socket, towards the bottom of the plug, until the final inserted position is reached.
In this position, there is a continuous electrical connection between the electrical connections of the socket and the electrical connections of the plug, via the contact blades of the socket, the contact elements of the socket, the contact blades of the plug and contact elements of the plug. For more details, reference is made to the attached embodiment.
In order to simultaneously make the plug and the socket impermeable to dust and humidity, corresponding seals are preferably configured in the region of opening of the plug and the socket. The seals can be formed into sealing strips or sealing rings. They are preferably inserted in the corresponding sheaths and have lip-like projections directed inwards, which are deformable and allow reliable application against the corresponding insulating bodies.
The parts according to the invention of the plug connector constitute, in many aspects, a progress and an improvement compared to the state of the art, as it appears from document DE-A-35 12 026, or even offer the advantages which are obtained with a different type of connector, according to document DE-A-37 28 739. In particular, they provide autonomous protection against electromagnetic disturbing rays and, at the same time, given contact elements may be short -circuits to remove charges in the capacitors of the electro-equipment
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
nique and thus also make it possible to carry out a simulation to control the operating efficiency of the various contacts.
Both the plug and the socket constantly have operating reliability (in the plugged-in state as well as in the non-plugged-in state) and the possibility of checking their operating capacity. The parts can be plugged in quickly and reliably, and they can be produced simultaneously in a moisture and dust tight manner.
The following description describes the invention in more detail, using an example embodiment. To this end, the attached drawing shows diagrammatically: in FIG. 1, a longitudinal section through a plug, in the non-plugged-in state, in the lower half, and in the plugged-in state, in the upper half, and in the Figure 2, a longitudinal section through an associated socket of the connector, in the not inserted state, in the lower part, and in the inserted state in the upper part.
The plug shown in Figure 1 has a housing 12 substantially in the form of a hollow cylinder, into which is inserted on one side (left in Figure 1), a bottom 14 of electrically insulating material, and which is open to the opposite end (right in Figure 1). A multiplicity of electrical connections 16, shaped as contact pins, protrude through the bottom 14. The electrical connections 16 protrude to the left of the bottom 14 and extend through the bottom 14 to the right in a cylindrical insulating body 18 which extends into the region of the opening 20 of the housing.
Approximately in the center (seen in the axial direction), the insulating body 18 is divided into two parts by a metal plate 22.
The electrical connections (contact pins) 16 extend parallel to each other in an axial direction (x) until shortly before the metal plate 22, and
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
they each have a base part 16a which extends radially through the insulating body 18 to the surface of the latter. As a result, the surface of each base portion 16a forms an elbow in the same manner as. the surface of the insulating body 18.
In the front part (towards the housing opening 20), several contact strips 24 are inserted in the insulating body equi each have a shape similar to the base parts 16a of the electrical connections 16. A contact strip 24 is located each time , in the axial extension of an associated contact pin 16.
The insulating body 18, with the metal plate 22 inserted inside, is fixedly assembled at the bottom 14.
A sheath 26 extends between the insulating body 18 and the housing 12. Like the insulating body 18, the sheath 26 is made of electrically insulating material. It has an annular projecting part 28 which, in the non-plugged-in state, is applied against a corresponding recessed part 30 of the housing 12.
The projecting part 28 is pressed by a spiral spring 32 against the recessed part 30. The spiral spring 32 bears itself against the bottom 14 of the plug 10.
In the front part (towards the housing opening 20), the sheath 26 has, internally, a number of openings 34 corresponding to the number of contact strips, openings in each of which a contact element 36 is inserted. The openings 34 are each configured directly opposite an associated contact strip 24 (in the non-plugged-in state).
As shown in Figure 1, the contact elements 36 are shaped as triple leaf springs and provided with two contact blades 36a, 36b at both ends, while from the intermediate connecting strip 38, another strip of contact 36c protrudes through an opening 40 in the sheath 26 (in the direction of the housing 12).
As also shown in Figure 1, the space between the contact strips 36a, 36b is filled with an insulating strip
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
42. However, due to the presence of the connecting strip 38, the mutual electrical connection between the various contact strips continues to be obtained independently of the presence of this insulating strip.
At the end of the sheath 26 which is on the bottom side, another annular recess 44 is provided internally, in which, in the illustrated embodiment, is disposed an annular flap ring 46, which rests externally against the bottom of the recess 44 and which is configured internally with an elastic arm 46a which is applied against the surface of the insulating body 18 or, as the case may be, against the corresponding surfaces of the base parts 16a. This allows an electrical connection of the contact pins 16 in the non-plugged-in state and, consequently, a short circuit, in order to remove charges in the capacitors of the electronic equipment.
But it is also possible to divide the recess 44 into different parts separated from each other, in each of which is then inserted a respective contact strip 46. It is thus possible, as required, to interconnect different contacts, which allows , in particular, a simulation of the different contact positions in order to check the operating efficiency of the contact pins 16.
At the free front end (in the region of the opening 20 of the housing}, an annular lip seal 48 is disposed in the sheath 26, the elastic lip of which presses against the surface of the insulating body 18 or against the contact strips 24 projecting in this region, thereby making the plug impervious to dust and moisture.
The associated socket is shown in Figure 2.
Again, a housing 50 can be distinguished in the form of a hollow cylinder, which is open in the region of connection to the plug 10 (housing opening 52) and which is closed, at the opposite end, by a bottom 54. A annular groove
<Desc / Clms Page number 12>
56 is configured on the inner side of the bottom 54, groove in which is inserted a spiral spring 58 which urges an insulating body 60 which has, at its end located on the bottom side, an annular projecting part 62 which, in the state not plugged in, applies against a corresponding recessed portion 64 of a sheath 66 which is arranged between the insulating body 60 and the housing 50.
Just behind the projecting part 62 (in the direction of the housing opening 52), an annular metal ring 68 is inserted in the insulating body 60, the surface of which is flush with the surface of the insulating body 60.
A metal plate 70 is disposed in the insulating body 60 in the direction of the housing opening 52; however, unlike plug 10, the metal plate does not extend over the entire section of the insulating body, but is configured, on the peripheral face, with projecting parts and recessed parts, similar to the profile a gear wheel. As a result, the metal plate 70 only protrudes by individual parts, up to the region of the surface of the insulating body 60.
While the lower part of Figure 2 (not inserted state) represents a position of the metal plate 70 in which the latter extends as far as the surface of the insulating body 60, the upper part of Figure 2 (inserted state) represents an intermediate position, in which the metal plate 70 is distant from the surface of the insulating body 60. This representation is obtained as a result of an odd number of corresponding projecting parts of the metal plate 70. The number of the projecting parts is function of the number of corresponding contact strips 72 in the socket 100.
As shown by the joint observation of the lower and upper parts of FIG. 2, the contact strips 72 are respectively inserted (in the peripheral direction of the insulating body 60) in surface portions of the insulating body 60 in the-
<Desc / Clms Page number 13>
which the metal plate 70 does not extend into the region of the surface of the insulating body 60. Furthermore, the arrangement and configuration of the contact strips 72 in the socket 100 are similar to those of the contact strips of the plug 10, and the contact strips 72 are, here, arranged behind the metal plate 70 (in the direction of the housing opening 52).
The sheath 66 is also configured differently from the sheath 26 of the plug 10.
As shown in the upper part of FIG. 2, the sheath 66 has, in the front part (in the vicinity of the housing opening 52), on the internal side, several openings 72 in each of which is inserted a contact element 76. Each opening 74 provided with a contact element 76 is located opposite a contact strip 72 (in the non-plugged-in state). The contact elements 76 are shaped as lamella contacts, and they have, at their ends, corresponding contact lamellae 76 a, b. As for the contact element 36 of the plug 10, an insulating strip 42 is arranged between the strips. The contact strips 76 a, b are mutually connected by a connecting strip 78.
Another opening 80, separated from the contact elements 76 by a spacer 79 and offset in the direction of the bottom 54, is configured in the sheath 66, an opening which consists of several chambers, namely an outer annular chamber 80a and a multiplicity of chambers 80b interior, the parts of corresponding chambers being mutually connected by a connecting channel, in which is inserted a branch of a contact ring 82 which is configured as follows: The contact ring 82 consists of an external contact strip 82a, which is inserted into the annular chamber 80a, and several individual contacts 82b which are arranged in the corresponding chambers 80b.
Both the contact strip 82 and the individual contacts 82b are again shaped into contacts
<Desc / Clms Page number 14>
with lamellae, which are applied, by their elastic arms, against the corresponding surface parts of the housing 50 or, as the case may be, of the metal plate 70 (in the non-plugged-in state). A connection of the corresponding sheath part 66a with the rear sheath part 66b is obtained in the region between the individual contacts 82b. The connecting rib of the contact ring 82 also provides a connection with a metal ring 84 which extends from the outer peripheral face of the sheath 66 inside the latter and which also provides a covering function. for EMP protection.
At the rear (towards the bottom 54), several other contacts, which are part of electrical connections 86, are, respectively, arranged in the sheath 66 in the axial extension of the contact elements 76. The electrical connections are shaped, in this region , in leaf springs which are inserted in corresponding recesses 88 on the inner side of the sheath 66. The contact faces are oriented so that in the non-plugged-in state, they are positioned directly opposite of the metal ring 68. From there, the electrical connections 86 extend in the form of metal strips 86a, in the axial direction, through the sheath 66 in the bottom 54, and they are connected there to contact pins associated 86b, which protrude from the bottom 54 outwards.
Finally, also for the sleeve 100, seals 90 are arranged in the region of the housing opening 52, seals which are configured in the same way as the seals 48 of the plug 10.
The plug 10 fulfills the following functions, in the not inserted state: an electrical connection is provided between a ground connection 49 on the housing 12 and the metal plate 22 via the housing 12, of the contact strip 36c, the connecting strip 38 and the contact strip 36a. Given the previous distribution
<Desc / Clms Page number 15>
demment described contact elements 36, there is thus obtained a connection of the contact elements 36 with each other and with the metal plate 22 and, therefore, EMP protection or as the case NEMP.
In addition, by means of the lamellar ring 46, the electrical connections (contact pins) 16 can be short-circuited for the aforementioned reasons.
From the position of the socket in the non-inserted state, the following results: a connection is provided between a ground connection 91 on the housing 50 and the metal plate 70 via the housing 50, of the strip contact 82a and individual contacts 82B as well as metal plate 84, so that a Faraday cage is configured in the same way as for the plug
EMI15.1
10.
By means of the metal ring 68, the electrical connections 86 can be short-circuited, in the same way as for the plug 10.
If now the plug and the socket are mutually assembled, the insulating body fixedly arranged 18 of the plug 10 presses the elastically mounted insulating body 60 of the socket 100 in the direction of the bottom 54, while, at the same time, the sheath fixedly arranged 66 of the sleeve 100 moves the elastically mounted sheath 26 of the plug 10 in the direction of the bottom 14 of the plug. In this way, a position of the different parts is obtained relative to each other as shown in the upper part of Figures 1 and 2.
In this state, an electrical connection between each contact pin 86b and the contact strip 72 is provided, via the electrical connection 86 and, from there, via the contact 76b, the connecting strip 78 and of the contact 76a, on the contact strip 24 of the plug 10, from where the connection continues, by means of the contact strip 36b, of the connection strip 38 and of the contact strip 36a , Passing by
<Desc / Clms Page number 16>
the base part 16a, as far as the associated electrical connection 16 of the plug. In doing so, the metal plates 70 and 22 are, in each case, simultaneously bypassed, because their contact faces are either outside the aforementioned contacts (for the socket), or are insulated by the insulating strip 42 (for the file 10).
For unlocking, the procedure is the opposite of what has just been described. We then find an association of the different parts as described above for the non-plugged-in state.
