Abstract

The plug 10 includes a cylindrical metal housing 12, one end of which is open towards the corresponding socket 100, an insulating body 18 disposed inside the housing 12 and extending substantially coaxially with the latter, which has several contact strips 24 on its surface, at one of its ends (towards the socket) and which is provided, at its other end (towards the bottom of the plug), with electrical connections 16, a metal plate 22 passing through the insulating body 18 between the contact strips 24 and the electrical connections 16, as well as an axially sliding sheath 26, disposed between the insulating body 18 and the housing 12 which is configured so that in the non-plugged-in state, it provides a continuous electrical connection from a ground connection 49 of the housing 12 to the metal plate 22.

Description

Plug and socket for a pluggable electrical connector

  invention relates to an electrical connector

  The plug and the socket of the known connector have a multitude of contact pins arranged parallel between

  they, which are mutually related to the plugged-in state.

  Besides these plug-in connectors, there is also a type of connector in which the contacts are not formed by contact pins, but by strips of

  contact on the peripheral face of the corresponding parts.

  The present invention therefore aims to provide a con-

  plug-in electrical connector of the type mentioned above which, like the connector according to the document DE-A 37 28 739,

  HF sealing, i.e. EMP protection. The connec-

  must be designed in such a way that it can be plugged in and out easily and reliably, even during operations

  quickly following one another.

  An important aspect of the invention consists in protecting the parts of the plug connector against electromagnetic interference rays by the fact that the plug or, as the case may be, the socket are configured such that they respectively form a kind of Faraday cage with the constructive elements connected. The space inside the cage (plug, socket) can thus be protected from the rays

  of metal plate contacts.

  Thus, for the two parts (plug, socket) an electrical connection is provided between the housing and the metal plate

  respective arranged in the insulating body and specially

  figured and we therefore provide a kind of electrically conductive cage (Faraday cage) which, in the non-plugged-in state

  parts, provides reliable protection against harmful rays

  One obtains, both with the achievement of the object proposed to the invention and with the configuration described similar to a

  Faraday cage, that the electrical connection extends in the re-

  region located near the opening of the housing, as

  will describe it in more detail later.

  Before describing advantageous embodiments

  parts according to the invention, it will be indicated, in order to be com-

  plet, that the card presents, on its part penetrating in the

  sleeve (sheath), an inside diameter which is equal or small

  significantly greater than the outside diameter of the corresponding insulating body in the socket and equal to or slightly less than the inside diameter of the socket housing. In addition, the movable parts of the plug and of the socket have respective stops which delimit the axial sliding stroke, in particular in the non-plugged-in state, or which determine the

  optimum insertion depth of the parts and therefore also

  If necessary, the plug and socket can be fixed in position in the plugged-in state using assemblies

  with the corresponding electrical connection.

  It is therefore particularly advantageous to conform the contact elements in triple leaf springs, with two contact blades in the direction of the insulating body to come into contact with the metal plate in the not inserted state or, as the case may be, to enter contact with the associated contact strip and the electrical connection associated with the inserted state,

  another form of contact elements. The elements of con-

  strips relative to the contact ring.

  While in the plug, the insulating body is arranged. fi-

  xement and the sheath is inserted with the possibility of sliding-

  between the housing and the insulating body, it is exactly the opposite in the socket, i.e. the insulating body

  inside is preferably mounted elastically in relation thereto

  In order to seal the plug and socket simultaneously

  can be formed into sealing strips or sealing rings

  reliable application against the corresponding insulating bodies.

  The parts according to the invention of the plug connector cons-

  The following description describes the invention in more detail, using an example embodiment.   better. The plug shown in Figure 1 has a housing 12 substantially in the form of a hollow cylinder, into which is inserted on one side (left in Figure 1), a bottom 14 in

  electrically insulating material, which is open to the outside

  opposite half (right in Figure 1). A multiplicity of electrical connections 16, shaped as contact pins, protrude through the bottom 14. The electrical connections 16 protrude to the left of the bottom 14 and extend through the bottom 14 to the right in a cylindrical insulating body 18

  The electrical connections (contact pins) 16 extend

  one of which is then inserted a respective contact strip 46. It is thus possible, as required, to connect different contacts to each other, which allows, in particular, a simulation of the different contact positions in order to check the operating efficiency of the pins of

contact 16.

  At the front free end (in the region of the open-

  ture 20 of the housing, an annular lip seal 48 is disposed in the sheath 26, the elastic lip of which is applied against the surface of the insulating body 18 or against the contact strips 24 projecting in this region. The

  plug is thus sealed against dust and moisture.

  The associated socket is shown in Figure 2.

  Again, a housing 50 can be distinguished in the form of a hollow cylinder, which is open in the region of connection to the plug 10 (housing opening 52) and which is closed, 35. at the opposite end, by a bottom 54 An annular groove 56 is configured on the inner side of the bottom 54, a groove in which is inserted a spiral spring 58 which urges an insulating body 60 which has, at its end situated on the bottom side, an annular protruding part 62 which, in the non-plugged-in state, applies against a corresponding recessed portion 64 of a sheath 66 which is disposed between the

insulating body 60 and the housing 50.

  Just behind the projecting part 62 (in the direction of the housing opening 52), an annular metal ring 68 is inserted in the insulating body 60, the surface of which

  is flush with the surface of the insulating body 60.

  A metal plate 70 is arranged in the body i-

  solant 60 in the direction of the housing opening 52; any-

  times, unlike plug 10, the metal plate does not extend over the entire section of the insulating body, but is configured, on the peripheral face, with projecting parts and recessed parts, similar to the profile a gear wheel. As a result, the metal plate 70 only protrudes by individual parts,

  While the lower part of Figure 2 (not plugged in state) represents a position of the metal plate

  in which the latter extends to the sur-

  face of the insulating body 60, the upper part of Figure 2 (plugged-in state) represents an intermediate position, in which the metal plate 70 is distant from the surface of the insulating body 60. This representation is obtained by

  As shown in the upper part of FIG. 2, the flange 66 has, in the front part (in the vicinity of the housing opening 52), on the inside, several openings 72 in each of which is inserted a contact element 76. Each opening 74 provided with a contact element 76 is located opposite a contact strip 72 (in the non-plugged-in state). The contact elements 76 are shaped as lamella contacts, and they have, at their ends, corresponding contact lamellae 76 a, b. As for the contact element 36 of the plug 10, an insulating strip 42 is arranged between the strips. The contact strips 76 a, b are mutually connected by a connecting strip 78. Another opening 80, separated from the contact elements 76 by a spacer 79 and offset towards the bottom 54, is configured in the sheath 66, opening which consists of several chambers, namely an outer annular chamber 80a and a plurality of

  O80b interior chambers, parts of the chamber_ zorrespon-

  dantes being mutually connected by a connecting channel, into which is inserted a branch of a contact ring 82 which is configured as follows: The contact ring 82 consists of an external contact strip 82a, which is inserted in the annular chamber 80a, and several individual contacts 82b which are arranged in the corresponding chambers 80b. Both the contact strip 82 and the individual contacts 82b are again shaped into lamella contacts, which are applied, by their elastic arms, against the corresponding surface parts of the housing 50 or, as the case may be, of the metal plate 70 (not plugged in). A connection of the corresponding sheath part 66a with the rear sheath part 66b is obtained in the region between the individual contacts 82b. The

  The plug 10 fulfills, in the not inserted state, the following functions: an electrical connection is provided between a ground connection 49 on the housing 12 and the metal plate 22 by means of the housing 12, the lamella of contact 36c, the connecting strip 38 and the

  -35 contact strip 36a. Given the previous distribution

  as described contact elements 36, thus obtaining a connection of the contact elements 36 with each other and with the metal plate 22 and, therefore, a protection

  From the position of the socket in the non-plugged-in state, the following results: a connection is provided between a ground connection 91 on the housing 50 and the metal plate 70 via the housing 50, of the strip contact 82a and individual contacts 82B as well as the metal plate 84, so that a Faraday cage is configured in the same way as for the plug 10. Via the metal ring 68, the electrical connections 86 may be short-circuited,

  the same way as for sheet 10.

  If now the plug and the socket are mutually assembled, the insulating body fixedly disposed 18 of the plug 10 presses the elastically mounted insulating body 60 of the socket 100 in the direction of the bottom 54, while, at the same time, the sheath fixedly arranged 66 of the sleeve 100 moves the resiliently mounted sheath 26 of the plug 10 in the direction of the bottom 14 of the plug. In this way, a position of the different parts is obtained relative to each other as shown in the upper part of Figures 1 and 2. In this state, an electrical connection between each contact pin 86b and the strip of contact 72 is supplied via electrical connection 86 and from there through contact 76b. of the connecting strip 78 and of the contact 76a, on the contact strip 24 of the plug 10, from where the connection continues, via the contact strip 36b, of the connecting strip 38 and of the contact strip 36a, passing through

  1.- Plug for a pluggable electrical connector, characterized by:   a cylindrical metal housing (12), one of which is   mite is open towards the corresponding socket (100>, an insulating body (18) disposed inside the housing (12) and extending substantially coaxially with the latter, which has several contact strips (24) on its surface, at one of its ends (towards the socket) and which is provided, at its other end (towards the bottom of the plug), with electrical connections (16), a metal plate (22) passing through the insulating body (18) between the contact strips (24) and electrical connections (16), as well as an axially sliding sheath (26), arranged between the insulating body (18) and the housing (12), which is configured so that,   in the not plugged-in state, it provides an electrical connection   that continues from a ground connection (49) of the   housing (12) to the metal plate (22).   2.- Sheet according to Claim 1., characterized in that   that the sheath (26) is resiliently mounted relative to the bottom of the plug (14) and is provided with a stop (28) for the axial delimitation of its sliding stroke by relative to the housing (12).   3.- Sheet according to Claim 1 or 2, characterized in that a number of corresponding contact elements (36)   the number of contact strips (24) or electrical connections   triques (16) is located in the sheath (26) and this, so that in the unplugged state, at least one section (36c) is applied, each time, against the housing (12) and a other section (36a) against the metal plate (22) and in the plugged-in state, at least one section (36b) between each time, in contact with the associated contact strip   (24) and another section (36a) with the electrical connection than corresponding (16).   4.- Sheet according to claim 3., characterized in that the contact elements are shaped as triple leaf springs, with two contact blades (36a, b) in the direction of the insulating body (18) to come into contact with the metal plate (22) in the non-plugged-in state, or as appropriate for coming into contact with the associated contact strip (24) and the associated electrical connection (16) in the plugged-in state, and with a contact strip ( 36c) in the direction of the housing (12), to come into contact with the   housing (12) in the not inserted state.   5.- Sheet according to Claim 3 or 4, characterized in that an insulating strip (42) rests, internally, in the sheath (26) between the contact regions of the internal contact strips (36a, b), which strip insulating, in the plugged-in state, insulates the metal plate (22) from contact elements (36).   6.- Sheet according to any one of Claims 1 to 5,   characterized in that the electrical connections (16)   are made in the form of contact pins, which repo-   feels at a distance from each other in the insulating body (18) and which have, in the region of contact towards the contact elements (36), a metal base (16a) extending   up to the surface of the insulating body (18), and which exceeds   feels at the opposite end of the bottom (14) of the plug (10)   7 - Sheet according to any one of Claims 1 to 6,   characterized in that a contact ring (46) is provided   placed in the region of the end on the bottom side of the sheath, to connect the electrical connections (16) not plugged in.   8.- File according to any one of Claims 1 to 7,   characterized by at least one seal (48) in the region between the insulating body (18) and the sheath (26) and /   or between the sheath (26) and the housing (12).   9.- Socket for a pluggable electrical connector, including   ment to receive a card (10) according to any one   of Claims 1 to 8, characterized by:   a cylindrical metal housing (50), one of which is   is open to the corresponding card (10),   an insulating body (60) arranged with the possibility of sliding   lying longitudinally inside the housing (50) and extending substantially coaxially to the latter, which has several contact strips (72) on its surface, at one of its ends (towards the plug (10)), a plate metallic (70) passing through the insulating body (60) between the contact strips (72), as well as a sheath (66), disposed between the insulating body (60) and the housing (50), in which electrical connections are arranged (86) and which is, moreover, configured so that,   in the not plugged-in state, it provides an electrical connection   that continues between a ground connection (91) of the   housing (50) and the contact points of the metal plate - lique (70).   10.- Socket according to Claim 9, characterized in that   that the insulating body (60) is resiliently mounted relative to   port at the bottom (54) of the sleeve and is provided with a, utée (62) for the axial delimitation of its sliding stroke relative to the sheath (66).   11.- Socket according to Claim 9 or 10, characterized   in that a contact ring (82) is inserted in the ring   ne (66), with individual contacts (82b) directed inwards (towards the insulating body (60)), to be applied against the corresponding faces of the metal plate (70) and with a contact strip ( 82a) directed outwards (in the direction of the housing (12)), to come into contact with the housing (50), respectively in the non-plugged-in state, the individual contacts (82b) being   connected to the contact strip (82a).   12.- Socket according to Claim 11, characterized in that the contact ring (82) or its contact parts is or are made in the form of elastic strips.   13.- Socket according to any one of Claims 9 to   12, characterized in that a number of contact elements (76) corresponding to the number of contact strips (72) or electrical connections (86) is located in the sheath (66) and this, so that 'in the plugged-in state, a connection   electric is supplied between the contact strips cor-   corresponding (72, 24) of the socket (loO) and the plug (10). E,   14.- Socket according to Claim 13., characterized in that the contact elements (76) are shaped as springs with double blades, the blades being shaped at both ends of the contact element and a strip   insulator (42) is inserted between them in the sheath (66).   15.- Socket according to any one of Claims 9 to   14, characterized in that the electrical connections (B6) each have a connection part projecting from the bottom (54) of the socket, from which they extend through the bottom (54) and the sheath (66 ) and, at their opposite free end, are each configured with a contact region to contact the   contact strip (72) of the socket in the plugged-in state.   16.- Socket according to Claim 15, characterized in that the contact regions are produced in the form of leaf springs.   17.- Socket according to any one of Claims 9   16, characterized in that a metal ring (68) is arranged in the surface of the insulating body (60), for the   connection of electrical connections (86) in the non-plugged-in state.   18.- Socket according to any one of the Claims   9 to 17, characterized in that, in the region of the open-   ture of the housing (52), it is provided with at least one seal (90) in the region of contact between the housing (50) and the insulating body (60)
