<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

"Adapter for cable hoist load limiter" --------------------
On electric hoists such as hoists, winches and others, the load can be weighed at the fixed point of the cable.
The winches and hoists built since 1980 are originally equipped with a safety device which allows working at nominal load and which cuts the current as soon as 110% of the nominal load is reached. This avoids deformations of the frame, the mechanics and the cable. A new regulation obliges users to place this system on installations prior to 1980.
It is necessary to make large transformations to adapt a load cell whatever it is to interpose the latter between the cable and the fixed point to the chassis: placement of a crosspiece, eyelet flanges, sometimes dangerous welded supports.
The object of the invention is a load limiter adapter for cable hoists, the aim of the invention being to provide a load limiter adapter which is easy to place while meeting the safety requirements which must be observed. 'here the year 1990.
The load limiter adapter according to the invention is characterized in that a removable load cell is introduced into a box provided at its two ends with collar flanges, the load cell itself being fixed on the one hand to the box and on the other hand to a tie after having introduced the cable in this tie.
The load limiter adapter according to the invention is further characterized in that at least one of the flanges ensuring the fixing of the box to the cable is mounted on a hinged support in line with the fixing of this support to the box of the load limiter adapter according to the invention.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Other characteristics and advantages of the load limiter adapter for cable hoists according to the invention will emerge from the description of an adapter according to the invention illustrated by means of the figures appended to this description.
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section of an adapter of the load limiter according to the invention.
Fig. 2 is a cross section along the plane AA ′ of the adapter shown in FIG. 1.
According to the execution of the load limiter adapter, according to the invention, represented in FIG. 1, the adapter comprises a load cell (1) inserted in a box (2) to which it is fixed by an axis (3) , the box (2) carrying at each of its ends a support for flanges, respectively (4 and 5), making it possible to fix this box (2) to the cable (6) of the hoist under control by means of the respective flanges (7 and 8). Screws (9 and 10) tighten these flanges (7 and 8) in the flange supports (4 and 5), and hold the cable (6) in the grooves provided for this purpose in the flange supports (4 and 5).
The axis (3) for fixing the load cell (1) to the box (2) comprises at each of its ends a head (15) and at one of these a groove (16) allowing the load cell to be held (1) by means of an undrawn circle clip, centering screws (17 and 18), ensuring on both sides, at the upper part and at the, lower part, the load cell (1) in the center of the box (2).
The adapter according to the invention further comprises a tie rod (11), fixed to the load cell (1) 'by an articulation composed of an axis (12) and a split pin (13). This tie rod (11) includes a notch (14) which makes it possible to introduce the cable (6) there before fixing the load cell (1).
Under the effect of the cable load (1), the tension exerted has the effect of straightening the deflection caused by the separation of the flange supports (4 and 5) and the support of the tie rod.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
(11) on the cable (6). This tie-rod being articulated, it follows the movement of the cable without friction. The deflection of the cable is transmitted by the load cell strain gauges to the hoist control units. As a result, the vertical traction between the cable and the existing fixed point is transformed into horizontal traction on the load cell which measures its magnitude. In case this deviation exceeds the imposed limit, the hoist refuses the load.
Depending on the type of hoist, in particular its maximum lifting weight, eg 250 kg - 1,000 kg - 10T, per cable strand, weights and tie rods will be used.
In addition to the grooves which are provided with the flange supports (5 and 6) for fixing the box (2) to the lifting cable (1), these supports are arched in the longitudinal plane of the lifting cable (1) to avoid the damage to the cable strands by deflection under the effect of the tie rod.
In addition, one or both flange supports (4 and 5) can be formed in the form of an articulated link, as is the case for the flange support (5) of the load limiter adapter according to the invention shown. in Figures 1 and 2.
The assembly forming the load limiter adapter according to the invention consists of the load cell (1), the box (2), the tie rod (11) and their accessories which can be introduced into a protective box.
The adapter of the load limiter of a lifting hoist according to the invention requires only a few parts, is easily placed, without losing lifting height, and adapts to the types of load cell and hoists. Another advantage of the adapter according to the invention is that it can be electrostatically isolated when it is placed on the cable.
