"Serrure".
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

EMI3.1
a engrenage.
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

"Lock".
The present invention relates to a lock intended to be applied to a leaf of a door or a window and comprising at least one tongue and a control lever connected to the tongue by a mechanical transmission subject to lubrication, said transmission being housed in a housing.
Such locks are generally used for locking windows or for closing the doors of a cabinet. The movement imposed by the user on the control lever is transmitted, using the transmission, to the tongue. During a
EMI1.1
closing operation, one end of the tongue is driven a little more outside the housing so that the other end of the tongue can be housed in a notch or behind a stop forming part of the window frame or the 'cabinet, thus connecting the window or door sash to the frame and preventing its opening. During an opening operation, the tongue is driven towards the inside of the case, which makes it possible to dissociate it from the chassis in which it was notched.
For aesthetic and dust protection reasons the transmission is incorporated in a cabinet. However, this poses a problem of lubrication of the transmission since the housing prevents direct access to the transmission. Locks of the aforementioned type therefore have the disadvantage that their tubrification involves disassembly of the housing which is a complex operation to simply add a few drops of oil. However, lubrication of the lock is necessary for its proper functioning, since a lack of lubrication is often the cause of deterioration of the lock.
The invention aims to remedy this drawback.
To this end, the lock according to the invention has a housing which is provided with at least one opening giving access
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
to said transmission and intended to allow the introduction of a lubricant used to lubricate said transmission.
Thus, thanks to the opening provided in the box we get access to the transmission allowing its lubrication without having to disassemble the box or the lock.
In this regard it should be noted that the openings per se in the housing are already known. However, their purpose is to allow the passage of means for fixing the boot to the door leaf and does not give access to the transmission. The function of the latter is therefore completely different from that of the opening characterizing the invention.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the lock comprises a capsule making it possible to cover the opening. This capsule prevents the penetration of dust and other unwanted elements inside the case, which can cause the transmission to clog.
According to a particular embodiment of the invention, the tongue comprises a part provided with teeth and said transmission is formed by a toothed wheel which is meshed in said part provided with teeth of the tongue. This gives a simple and reliable construction transmission, which when well lubricated has a long service life.
It is advantageous to provide that the opening is connected to the transmission by a channel allowing the passage of the lubricant. This channel makes it possible to place the opening at a location in the housing independently of the location where the transmission is located while ensuring the delivery of the lubricant to the transmission.
Preferably, the channel contains a spongy padding material serving as a buffer for the lubricant. It is thus obtained that the lubricant passing through the channel is retained, which makes it possible to regulate the flow rate while providing a reserve of lubricant.
Other features and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the description given below of an embodiment of the invention. This description is given only for
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
example and does not limit the scope of the protection sought.
The references used below relate to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of part of a door leaf provided with a lock according to the invention.
Figure 2 is a partial elevational view of the lock according to the invention.
FIG. 3 illustrates the mechanism of the lock according to the invention.
In the different figures, the same references relate to identical or analogous elements.
In general, the invention relates to a lock intended to be applied to a door or window sash.
This type of lock is distinguished from embedded locks by the fact that they are applied to the leaf.
FIG. 1 shows an exemplary embodiment of part of a door leaf 2, for example the door of a cabinet, provided with a lock l placed projecting from this leaf. The lock can, of course, also be only partially applied projecting from the leaf, or even be inserted therein. In this example, the lock has two tongues 8 extending vertically along the leaf and on either side of a housing 3 forming part of the lock and in which is housed a transmission.
A control lever 6 is connected to the transmission which itself is connected to the tongues. The movement imposed by the user on the control lever is transmitted by means of the transmission to the tongues thus making it possible to open or close the door. The control lever can be made up of any member such as, for example, a key, a rod, a hook, or a button used to actuate the lock. In the example chosen, the control lever is formed by a key arranged to be introduced into a keyhole 7. The transmission is of the mechanical type subject to lubrication, for example a cam transmission or
EMI3.1
gear.
According to the invention, the lock box 3 is provided with an opening 5 giving access to the transmission. For reasons
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
aesthetic dimensions of this opening are reduced, for example by an area not exceeding 10 mm2. The opening 5 in the housing makes it possible to introduce a lubricant, for example a mineral oil, into the housing thus making it possible to lubricate the transmission inside the housing without having to disassemble the housing or the lock.
In order to prevent the penetration of dust or other unwanted substances into the opening 5, it is advantageously provided, according to the invention, to cover the opening with a capsule 10 preferably easily removable, for example made of plastic, as illustrated in FIG. 2. The latter is preferably made integral with the lock by connecting it to the latter by means of a connecting means, such as a cord or other link, for example
EMI4.1
a link of the same material as the capsule. The latter can also cover other openings in the case, such as for example the key entry area.
Figure 2 shows another embodiment of a lock according to the invention. In this embodiment, the lock has a channel 9, connecting the lubrication opening 5 to the transmission. When the lubricant is introduced into the opening 5, it can then flow through this channel and thus reach the place where the transmission which is to be lubricated is housed. The use of this channel makes it possible to place the opening 5 at a location remote from the transmission while allowing the lubricant to reach the transmission.
In addition, in order to provide as regular a flow as possible, and to be able to spread the lubrication over time, provision is made to pad the channel, totally or partially, by means of a spongy material, such as a foam. The lubricant flow is thus regulated, which allows a greater spacing between the successive lubrication operations of the transmission and consequently a maintenance of the lock requiring less monitoring since! The padding acts as a buffer for the lubricant.
FIG. 3 shows in detail an example of the various parts forming the transmission, namely the tongues 8 and
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
the transmission with which they cooperate. In the example illustrated, this is a mechanical gear transmission, formed by a toothed wheel 12 which drives the tongues. The parts of the tongues 8 coming into contact with the toothed area also have a toothed shape. To ensure cooperation between the toothed wheel and the corresponding toothed surfaces of the tongues, the respective teeth have corresponding pitches. To ensure trouble-free operation of the transmission over the long term, adequate lubrication is essential.
These parts undergo, when used, a relative movement which requires the use of the lubricant throughout the contact area between the toothed wheel and the tongues.
This zone coincides with that where the parts forming the transmission are intended to cooperate by direct contact with one another, thus defining respective contact surfaces.
Furthermore, FIG. 3 also shows openings 14 which are intended to allow the passage of fixing means, such as for example screws, from the aforementioned case to the door leaf.
Locks with only one tab also fall within the scope of the present invention. This is, for example, the case for surface-mounted locks placed projecting with a horizontal tongue.
It is also conceivable, without departing from the scope of the present invention, to provide two lubrication openings, which may be of some interest for locks with two tongues, and two or three toothed wheels.
