<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

Windscreen wiper assembly for motor vehicles
The present invention relates to a set of windscreen wipers for motor vehicles or the like, comprising a frame head, a channel connected in rotation to the frame head, spring means between the channel and the frame head, a sweeping element and at least one link with two branches (or bridge or stirrup) connecting in rotation the sweeping or wiping element to the channel.
Almost all wiper assemblies currently on the market are of the type defined above. It is therefore not necessary to describe in detail these wiper assemblies of the prior art. It should however be noted: (a) that most of the wiper assemblies of the prior art include a wiper arm or wiper arm and a removable wiper blade; and (b) that in the present application, the term "wiper assembly" includes not only the wiper arm but also the wiper blade which, as will be seen below, is not removable with respect to the scanning arm.
The main object of the invention is to provide
EMI1.1
a set of wipers with a very low profile, that is to say a set of wipers in which the point of the assembly, which is situated highest above the surface to be wiped, is located closer to the
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
wiping surface only in comparable wiper assemblies of the prior art. This feature is particularly important for wiper assemblies which are located below the hood of the vehicle when they are in their rest position.
Another object of the invention is - depending on the length and according to the embodiment of the assembly - to provide a set of wipers which is less costly than comparable wiper assemblies of the prior art . From this point of view, it should be noted that the wiper assembly according to the invention is not provided with a separate special connector for detachably attaching the wiper blade to the wiper arm.
The wiper assembly according to the invention is characterized in substance by the fact that it also comprises at least one rod with one branch and at least one spring means capable of urging the rod on one branch towards the surface to wipe.
Other particularities of the wiper assembly according to the invention are for example that:
EMI2.1
a) the link to a branch is rotatably attached to the part of the channel which is furthest away from the head forming a frame; or b) the single-link rod is attached to the part of the channel which is closest to the frame tote; or c) the assembly comprises two one-branch links located respectively near the two ends of the channel.
The invention will be best understood by reading the following parts of the description and by considering the drawings attached to this specification, in which:

a second, a third, a fourth, a fifth and a sixth embodiment of the wiper assembly according to the invention.
FIGS. 1A, 1B, 2A and 2B show that the wiper assembly according to the first embodiment of the invention essentially comprises the following parts or elements: a head forming a frame 1, a channel profile 2 connected with rotation to the head forming frame 1 by means of the rivet 3, spring means 4 between the channel 2 and the head forming frame 1, an upper link 5 with two branches, two lower links 6 with two branches, a link 7 with a branch, spring means 11 between the link 7 to a branch and the channel 2 and a sweeping or wiping element 9.
The head forming a mount 1 is provided with an opening 1a ′ for inserting the centering shaft therein (not shown) and an upper housing 1a ″ relatively large for inserting therein the cap 15 shown in FIG. 3. that the frame-forming head can also be produced as shown respectively by the reference numerals 1 ′, 16 and 17 in FIGS. 4, 6 and 7.
The branch or branches of the lower links 6, 7 are each provided with a jaw 8 and thus carry the sweeping or wiping element 9 which, as can be seen in FIGS. 8 and 9, is also provided
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
of two support bands 18, as is known from the prior art.
The cross section of the channel 12 has essentially the shape of an inverted U and this channel is therefore provided with two lateral walls 2a, 2b (FIG. 5). It should be noted that the distance between the two lateral walls 2a, 2b of the channel 2 is greater than the width of the links 5, 6 and 7. In other words, when the wiper assembly operates on a windscreen curved breeze, the two-branch links 5,6 can penetrate inside the U returns from the channel, 2.
In fact, at its upper part, the two-link rod 5 is rotatably connected to the channel 2 by the rivet 13 (FIGS. 1A and FIG. 11) and its two branches are connected to the upper part of the rods 6 by rotation respectively by means of the projections 14 (FIGS. 1A, 1B and FIG. 10).
According to FIGS. 1A and 8, the link to a branch 7 is rotatably connected to the channel 2 by the rivet 12. Hook means 10, 10a are provided respectively on the link 7 and on the channel 2, and a spring of extension 11 operates between the two hook means 10, 10a so that the connecting rod 7, the corresponding jaw 8 and the corresponding part of the sweeping or wiping element 9 are biased downwards, that is to say say towards the surface to be wiped.
Due to joints 12, 13, 14 and
EMI5.1
spring means 11, the wiping or wiping element 9 of the wiper assembly according to the invention can therefore adapt itself very precisely to the curvature of the windshield and , at the same time, there is provided a set of wipers with a very low profile since, when the wiping or wiping element 9 is curved by the shape of the windscreen,
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
the two-link rods 5, 6 can at least partially enter 1tU returned (cross section) of the channel 2.
FIG. 12 shows the shape of the wiping 20 obtained on a windshield 19 when a set of single wipers according to the invention oscillates around a drive shaft 21 and when the head forming the frame of this set is as shown in Figure 1B and Figure 2B.
FIG. 13 shows the sweeping speed 22, 23 which is obtained on a windshield 19 when two sets of wipers according to the invention oscillate respectively around the two drive shafts 21a, 21b and when the variant of the head forming the frame of FIG. 7 is used.
FIGS. 14 to 18 show, by way of example, five other embodiments or possible configurations of the wiper assembly according to the invention. In FIG. 14, the two links 6 are hinged directly to the channel 2. In FIG. 15, the two links 6 are also hinged directly to the channel 2, but the one-arm link 7 is located near the head forming the frame 1. In FIG. 16, there are two single-link rods 7a, 7b located respectively at the two ends of the channel 2. In FIG. 17, two single-link rods 7a, 7b are associated with the two double-link rods 6 hinged directly to the channel 2. In FIG. 18, two one-link rods 7a, 7b are associated with a single two-link rod 6.
It will be observed that only the embodiments of FIGS. 1a, 1b and of FIG. 16 include three links going two branches 5, 6 of which the first, 5, is an intermediate link located between the channel 2 and the two other links 6 to two branches.
