COMPLETE SPECIFICATION STANDARD PATENT Invention Title: A shaking device for a grape harvesting machine or a machine for collecting fruits or berries by shaking, a method of manufacture of such a shaking device, and a mould for the manufacture of such a shaking device The following statement is a full description of this invention including the best method of performing it known to us:- 1/1 A SHAKING DEVICE FOR A GRAPE HARVESTING MACHINE OR A MACHINE FOR COLLECTING FRUITS OR BERRIES BY SHAKING, A METHOD OF MANUFACTURE OF SUCH A SHAKING DEVICE, AND A MOULD FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF SUCH A SHAKING DEVICE This invention relates to a shaking device for a grape harvesting machine or a machine for collecting fruits or berries by shaking, as well as a method of manufacture of such a shaking device, and a mould for the manufacture of such a shaking device.
Such shaking devices are intended for machines for harvesting grapes and more generally for machines for collecting fruits or berries (blackcurrants, olives etc.) by shaking.
10 The shaking devices for grape harvesting machines are usually formed by a rod made of plastic material held at one of its ends by a connecting clamp to a support oscillating around an axis perpendicular to the plane containing the rod. Generally these shaking devices are produced from rods of rigid plastic materials, for example ERTALON (trade mark).
One may differentiate between different variants of shaking devices. Certain shaking devices are bent into the shape of a hairpin. Other types of shaking devices are formed by a simple rod, whose end opposite to the oscillating support is free, or contrary to this connected to another fixed or oscillating support by a linking rod or a connecting component.
A first disadvantage of such shaking devices is that the part situated at the connecting clamp end is subjected to large mechanical stresses, that may cause breakage. At this part of the device, in effect, one passes from a very rigid area where the shaking device is held firmly in the clamp to a less rigid area where the shaking device is free. Shearing effects are produced that cause a significant heating up of this part, which weakens the shaking device. This phenomenon is particularly detrimental at the start of grape harvesting, when the maturity of the grapes is not yet a maximum, and setting of the grape harvesting machines to high shaking frequencies is necessary.
Another disadvantage relates more specifically to shaking devices with a free end or with a straight rod the back end of which is connected to a support by a connecting rod.
For this type of shaking device, it is usual to use a fixing clamp extended by a sleeve having a concave support surface, so as to cause a partial winding up of the portion of the rod situated behind the holding clamp. This partial winding up is intended to continuously modify the :i frequency appropriate to the shaking device and to prevent it going into S "resonance.
The aim of the invention is to remedy these disadvantages. To this S 20 effect, it relates to shaking devices the rod of which has an intermediate portion, adjacent its end held by the fixing clamp which is tapered.
Advantageously, the rod has a first portion of constant section suitable to be held firmly in the fixing clamp, extended by an intermediate portion.
the section of which reduces progressively between the section of the first portion and the section of the rod extending beyond the intermediate portion.
According to one particular embodiment, the section of the intermediate portion varies between a maximum section of about millimetres and a minimum section of about 20 millimetres.
According to another particular embodiment, the length of the intermediate portion is between 10 and 50 5 centimetres.
According to a first variant, the intermediate portion is extended, on the side opposite to the first portion by a substantially straight rod.
O According to a second variant, the intermediate portion is extended, 335 jon the side opposite to the first portion, by a rod bent into a hairpin.
The invention also relates to a method of manufacture of a shaking device for a grape harvesting machine or a machine for collecting fruits or berries by shaking, by the moulding of a plastic material in order to form an element having a first portion to be held by a connecting clamp, an intermediate portion of section and an active part.
In the prior art. the shaking devices are manufactured by deformation of a cylindrical rod. This method of manufacture has a disadvantage for shaking devices bent into a hairpin. In effect, the material has a form memory effect which tends to modify the initial curvature of the shaking device.
The invention further relates to a mould for the manufacture of a shaking device for a grape harvesting machine or a machine for collecting fruits or berries by shaking having a print forming a first portion to be held by a connecting clamp, an intermediate portion of tapering section and an active part.
Advantageously, the print has a part bent into a hairpin forming an I extension to the part for forming the intermediate portion.
*o o* The invention will be better understood on reading the description which follows, that makes reference to the appended figures relating to non-limitative examples of embodiments where: Figure 1 represents a view from above of a shaking device according to a first variant of the invention; Figure 2 represents a view from above of a shaking device according to a second variant of the invention; Figure 3 represents a view from above of a shaking device according to a third variant of the invention; Figures 4 to 6 represent views from above of three variants of shaking devices having two portions of variable section.
Figure 1 represents a view from above of a shaking device according to a first variant of the invention. The shaking device has a first portion of cylindrical shape and of constant section. This first portion is intended to be held by a clamp formed by two half shells having a complementary internal section.
By way of an example, the section of this first portion is circular and has a diameter of millimetres.
.ee.ei This first portion is extended by an intermediate portion the section of which decreases from a section identical to that of the first portion to a section identical to that of the rod The length of this intermediate section is about centimetres.
The end of the rod can be free or supported by means of a connecting rod.
The intermediate portion, in this variant, carries out two functions: It reinforces the area of the shaking device that is particularly stressed and it causes the rigidity of the shaking device to develop progressively, which creates vibratory harmonics that limit resonance phenomena.
Such a shaking device can be produced by machining a cylindrical rod, or by moulding.
Figure 2 represents an embodiment variant in which the shaking device has a generally arcuate form.
Figure 3 represents another embodiment variant in which the shaking device is bent into a hairpin.
Figures 4 to 6 represent views from above of three variants of shaking devices having two portions of variable section.
Figure 4 represents a hairpin shaped shaking device intended to be fixed by its two ends onto supports. The *central area is extended on either side by intermediate portions 5) of section that increases in the direction away from the central area These intermediate portions 5) are themselves extended by cylindrical terminal portions 6) intended to be *"clamped by the fixing clamps.
Figure 5 represents an embodiment variation, in which the shaking device is a straight rod, the ends of which are held by fixing clamps. The central active area is extended on either side by portions of increasing section that are terminated by fixing portions Figure 6 represents another embodiment variant. In this variant, the shaking device is curved into an oval shape open on one of its large sides. The intermediate portions extend over one part at least of the curved parts 8) The invention has been described above by the use of non-limitative examples. It is understood that a man skilled in the art will be able to produce different variants without, for all that, departing from the scope of the invention.
