Class Application Number: Lodged: Complete Specification Lodged: Accepted: Published: Priority Related Art: Int. Class Name of Applicant: Pontech Gesellschaft fur technologische Entwicklungen mbH Actual Inventor(s): Hans A. Hoffmann Address for Service: PHILLIPS ORMONDE FITZPATRICK Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys 367 Collins Street Melbourne 3000 AUSTRALIA Inventioii Title: REFUSE CONTAINERS, IN PARTICULAR MOBILE, LARGE REFUSE CONTAINERS i Our Ref 300898 POF Code: 1195/181670 The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to applicant(s): -1- 6006 r REFUSE CONTAINERS, IN PARTICULAR MOBILE, LARGE REFUSE CONTAINERS The invention concerns a refuse container, in particular a mobile, large, refuse container.
With known refuse containers for the waste management of refuse, in particular that from households, standard container sizes are provided by waste management businesses, for use with specialized receiving or pick-up equipment on refuse collection vehicles. The effective volume of the container is equated to the quantity of disposed garbage for charging purposes so that where the container is incompletely filled a disadvantage occurs for the user.
Therefore, in DE 91 01 001 Ul, a possibility is provided for the reduction of these effective volumes in a refuse container of standard size. For this, an insert fitting closely to the internal wall of the refuse container is provided for reduction of volume. Thi:; insert is either supported on the bottom of the refuse convainer, or stuck to the inner contour of the refuse container between the container bottom and the opening rim in such a way that it remains in the main container during emptying into a garbage collection vehicle. Such inserts may be secured against being unintentionally discarded during emptying by connection clamps in the region of the container wall but S these inserts provide no significant, defined decrease of volume. An alternative securing means comprises a spring device put through the bottom of the container as a securing brace but this adversely affect the air/water tightness of the refuse container.
The invention is based on the technical problem of developing a refuse container of the aforementioned type with respect to the insert, so that a variable, adequately defined, reduced volume of the refuse container is attainable, and a secure fastening onto the refuse container is ensured without influence on its air/water tightness.
The inventin Solves these prblems essentially with the features given inP_ ca Further features and y 3 9advantageous developments are given in the claims 2 te 0 According to the invention there is provided a refuse container for use with a refuse collection vehicle including an inner container locatable within the refuse container for optionally reducing the receiving volume of the refuse container wherein the inner container is provided with a border support being connectable with the opening edge of the refuse container at least along portions thereof, at least one connecting link being provided between the inner container and the refuse container in the region of the border support, the connecting link including at least one securing tongue integrally formed with the border support, the securing tongue having a fixing hook member.
According to a preferred aspect of this invention there is provided a refuse container wherein the inner container is subdivided into two or more chambers by integrally formed vertical dividing walls.
According to another preferred aspect of this invention there is provided a refuse container wherein the refuse container and the inner container are each made of a thermoplastic synthetic material.
According to a further preferred aspect of this invention there is provided a refuse container wherein the border support of the inner container is formed to fit flush with the opening edge of the refuse container.
~U
2a- 3 The inventin-e-dsi eueenanr e he volume reduction is provided by variable, determinable zes of given inner receptacles having about their p opening edge a flange which closely conforms to t top opening rim of the garbage container to give a ush point of contact with positive connection to e garbage container, and in which the remaining v me of the refuse container stays sufficiently ti y closed against the admission of foreign matter, where on the other hand, dismantling or re- ting of the inner container is possible with minimal The invention is described by reference to the following drawing, which explains an example of a refuse container developed according to the invention. The drawing shows: Fig. 1 a partly cut-away oblique view of a mobile refuse container.
Fig. 2 an oblique view of an inner receptacle to be housed within the refuse container.
Fig. 3 an enlarged section from Fig. 1 showing the connection between the inner receptacle and the refuse container in the rim area.
The Fig. 1 illustrates a mobile garbage container which has a square or a rectangular ground plan, and from the bottom one-piece, obliquely positioned, side walls are shown rising upwards; these extend to an upper rim which surrounds the opening edge In the represented example, this refuse container has the finishing fittings implied wheels and a bar grip whilst the lid belonging to it is not represented.
This, or a similarly modelled refuse container is a complete unit when the inner receptacle (10) is attached to it (Fig. 2) in the orientation of installation as suggested by arrow in the garbage container cavity The inner receptacle (10) is provided with a border edge support means (14) moulded adjacent the top opening edge (13) of the model represented; this support means (14) closely conforms with the top opening rim when 4,-,:S39 \connection of the components is carried out.
JI
a 'V 9w 4 By shaping support means (14) of the inner receptacle as a surrounding flange a flush junction between the top opening rim of the refuse container and the underside (15) of the support means (14) is made possible, so that upon insertion of the inner receptacle the cavity of empty volume remaining in the lower region of the refuse container is sufficiently air and water tight and secured against unintended entry of foreign matter.
When the inner receptacle (10) and the refuse container are assembled (not shown), the support means (14) of the inner receptacle (10) supports the inner receptacle (10) on the top opening rim so that one or more connecting links can be provided as additional safeguards for the stable positioning of the inner receptacle (10) within the refuse container The connecting links (16) are preferably fashioned as single- piece, moulded fixative tongues (17) on the support means (14) (Fig. The links (16) can be inserted into allocated socket openings (18) in the region of the top opening rim of the refuse container At least one attachment means (19) of suitable shape is provided for the fixative tongues (17) present. This attachment means (19) engages a moulded edge (20) of the refuse container in the region of an allocated socket opening (18).
In a further example, both the support means (14) and the top opening rim are fitted with scr 7 ew- and/or clamp-elements (not illustrated) instead of the wIngie-piece connecting links (16) (illustrated), so that a sufficiently stable and, where necessary, reversible connection between the refuse container and the inner receptacle (10) is formed.
The inner receptacle (10) can be subdivided into two or more chambers by integral walls (not illustrated), so that a possibility is given for the differential pre-sorting of refuse.
The refuse container and the inner receptacle are preferably made of a thermoplastic, synthetic material, preferably HDPE, so that in the region of the support means 39 an elastic connection is formed which will also be I- i 5 sufficiently stable during emptying.
The proposed, described combination of the refuse container with inner receptacle (10) may be varied according to the preferred model of the refuse container so that with refuse container effective volumes of L, 120 L, 140 L, 240 L or 360 L, a correspondingly modelled inner receptacle variant of, for example, 40 L, 80 L, and so on, can allow correspondingly flexible response to customer wishes. Additionally, for refuse containers with an even greater effective volume of 550 L, 660 L, 1000 L or 1100 L, a suitable volume reduction for the waste management of refuse can be achieved by use of inner receptacles of appropriate dimensions.
