Description
;~O(~S8~
The invention relates to a garbage container with essentially a rectangular cross-section in which case a hinged cover is placed on one side oE the container rim and on the side opposite the hinged cover support, a pick-up flange, moulded on the container rim and open from below, is provided with a guiding device on it for the engagement of a gripper of a dump type lifting device.
Such garbage containers, made of plastic using the injection moulding process, have been on the market for some ti.me and are therefore generally known. In the garbage collection with vehicles which have a dump type lifting device to empty the containers, the garbage containers are brought manually over to the dump type lifting device of the garbage vehicle in such a way that at the start of the lift-dump movement, a gripper engages on the pick-up flange which is open from below and located on the container rim.
The outside edge of the pick-up flange is rigidly fixed to the container wall by means of bracing ribs which run from the container wall across the pick-up flange. In the area of these bracing ribs the gripper of the dump type lifting device has gaps so that the container does not rest with the bracing ribs on the gripper. In this case, the garbage container must always be placed exactly so that the claws of the gripper grip between the bracing ribs and the container, during the dumping, accurately hits the filling opening of the garbage vehicle. In the rush with which the ga:rbage collection usually takes place, this requires great skill and attention of the operators on the garbage vehicle.

In the rush with which the ga:rbage collection usually takes place, this requires great skill and attention of the operators on the garbage vehicle.
2~S~
In order to facilitate the accurate placing of the garbage container on the dump type lifting device of the garbage vehicle, devices have already been provided. Through the Unexamined European Patent Applica-tion 0 185 382 a garbage container of the initially mentioned -type has become known on which the cover support can be atlached against a bracket plate, of which the upper edge is supported on the pick-up rim of the garbage container and is of adapter-like design with a pick-up recess approximately in the form of a conical section.
Congruent with this, the lifting and dumping device on the garbage vehicle has in this case an upwards tapering gripper which at the start of the lifting operation moves into the recess on the container and in this way aligns the latter laterally. With such a specialized dump type lifting device garbage containers of the generally prevelant shape cannot be seized. This detachable adapter, which can be installed on the garbage container, is very expensive to design and manufacture and has so far not found any significant use.
Through the German Utility Patent 85 l9 096, a simpler design with a similar adapter became known. In this case, on the container side opposite the cover support, a receptacle, open from below and moulded in one piece for the engagement of gripper claws of dump type lifting devices, consists of a roughly triangular pick-up recess with central upwards directed, rounded point, of which the front wall, turned towards the garbage container, is essentially straight and of which the back wall slopes tapered or spherically rounded outwards.
The German Patent 37 03 034 provides an improvement of such a pick-up recess for the engagement of a gripper in such a way that the pick-up recess is formed of at least two wall 2~3~8~
sections which run approximately parallel to one ano-ther and which are connected to each other by means of bracings. Such massive adapters, whi.ch are integral to the garbage container, make the garbage containers significantly more expensive than the generally used designs. In the first place, for the one-piece forming of such pick-up recesses, very complicated and thus expensive injection moulds are required, of which the costs significantly increase the price of such garbage containers. In the second place, also the consumpt.ion of material due to -the massive recess design is much higher.
The object of the invention is to design a garbage container of the type defined at the start of the description in such a way that the previously described disadvantages of the known garbage containers of this type are eliminated.
The adapter should be simply designed and its moulding on the container rim should require low moulding technical costs and little material. In addition, it should be possible to also empty garbage containers of generally common designs with a dump type lifting device converted to empty garbage containers according to the invention.
A construction in accordance with the present invention comprises a garbage container having an essentially rectangular cross-section and including a hinged cover placed on one side of a rim of the container. The container further includes on a side opposite the hinged cover support a pick-up flange, open from below and moulded on the container rim with a guiding device located thereon for the engagement for a gripper of a dump type li.fting device. The guiding device consists of a guiding tongue which is moulded in one piece on an outer wall of the pick-up flange and which is directed away from the container wall while pointing downwards.

In a more specific construction in accordance with the present invention, the yuiding tongue which has a roughly triangular base tapering downwards into a point comprises a stlffening profile running from a basis to a tip thereo~.
In a further cons-truction in accordance with the present invention, the guiding tongue is designed as a channel with a smoothly rounded bottom.
In a s-till further construction in aecordance with the present invention, the guiding tongue is formed by a perpendicular wall seetion moulded on the outer wall of the piek-up flange in the shape of an inwards curved cylindrical section.
In a still further construction in aceordanee with the present invention, the guiding tongue with a ehannel-like basie design is eorrugated in sueh a way that ridges form rays which fan out from the tip of the tongue to the basis thereof.
In a still further construetion in aeeordance with the present invention, the guiding tongue with esentially a triangular base is designed as a V-shaped channel.
In a still further eonstruction in aeeordanee with the present invention, the guiding tongue with a channel-like basie design is provided with V-shaped grooves in sueh a way that the grooves run as rays from the tip of the tongue to the basis thereof.
In a still further construetion in aeeordanee with the present invention, the guiding tongue has the shape of a eonieal seetion.
In a still further eonstruetion in aeeordance with the present invention, -the wall seetion of the pick-up flange whieh Eorms the basis of the guiding tongue, with a basis eylindrieal shape has a vertieal corrugation.

In a still furthex construction in accordance with the present invention, the pick-up flange is provided on the inside wi-th bracing ribs.
In a still further construction in accordance wi-th the present invention, the outer wall of the pick-up flanye, on the front side of the container, is provided on the inside with guiding ribs.
In a still further construction in accordance with the present invention, the guiding tongue is straightened by means of bracing ribs.
Having thus generally described the nature of the invention, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings, showing by way of illustration only a preferred embodiment thereof, and in which:

The garbage container consists essentially of a body par-t 1 with rectangular cross-section and a hinged cover 2. Both parts are formed in each case as one piece, plastic injection mouldings. The hinged cover 2 is hingedly mounted to the rim of a narrow side of the body part 1, designated hereinafter as back side, with a cover hinge 3 on the container opening. The garbage container shown here in the exemplified embodiment is in particular intended for domestic use and in a known way is equipped with a pair of wheels 4 installed underneath on the back side for better mobility.
The body part 1 has under the rim of the opening la on the front side a pick-up flange 5, open from below, which is moulded on the outside wall of the container to accommodate the gripper of a dump type lifting device. On the outside wall of the pick-up flange 5 a guiding tongue 6 is moulded which is directed downward, pointing away from the container wall. The guiding tongue 6 has a roughly triangular base which tapers downward to a point and a stiffening profile which runs from its basis 6a to the tip. In the exemplified embodiment shown in Figs. 1 to 7, the guiding tongue 6 is designed as a channel with smoothly rounded bottom, of which the symmetry axis 6b runs from the centre of the basis 6a to the tip of the tongue.
The basis 6a of the guiding tongue 6 is formed by a perpendicular wall section moulded on -the outer wall of the pick-up flange 5 in the shape of an inwards curved cylindrical section. Through such a moulding of the guiding tongue 6 with its basis 6a, 38513~.
i-t is achieved that the guiding tongue 6 can be stressed considerably in any direc-tion, and further reslsts the rough handling it is submitted -to in the garbage collection thereby serving its purpose.
Another embodiment of the stiffening profile of the guiding tongue 6 is shown in Fig. 8.
In this case, the guiding tongue 6 is also essentially channel-shaped. However, the bottom of -the channel is in addition corrugated in such a way that the ridges fan out as rays from the tip of the tongue to the basis 6a.
The pick-up Elange 5 is equipped on the inside with bracing ribs 7 which form also at the same time a fitting for the gripper of the dump type lifting device. Guiding ribs 8 which are provided on the inside of the outer wall of the pick-up flange 5 on the front side of the container serve as additional guiding elements for the gripper.
Over and above that, still other embodiments of the stiffening profile are also possible within the object of the invention, for example in such a way that the guiding tongue 6 with an essentially triangular base is designed with a V-shape or essentially a channel-shape with edged channel bottom in which case the edges run as rays from the tip of the tongue to the basis 6a.
For the embodiment shown in Figs. 10 and 11, the guiding tongue 6 is strengthened by means of stiffening ribs installed in addition on the outer wall.
