Val d'Oise Address for Service: Spruson Ferguson, Patent Attorneys Level 33 St Martins Tower, 31 Market Street Sydney, New South Wales, 2000, Australia r Complete Specification for the invention entitled: A Closing Capsule with a Mobile Element for Flasks and Other Containers The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me/us 5845/3 Declared at Val d'Olse this 13 day ofFebruary 1989 SFP4 To: The Commissioner of Patents Signature of Declarant(s) 11 /81 I -A The present invention relates to closing capsules for flasks or other containers adapted for containing various products such as cosmetic or domestic products.
The invention relates more particularly to those capsules remaining permanently on the flask and enabling, by a simple operation, access to the product contained therein.
Capsules including a rocking spout or a pivoting tongue mounted in the top of the cover are already known. Capsules the opening of which is provided by a rotation are also known.
The invention provides a new capsule the operating mode of which is such that it enables access to the inside of the flask and which may possibly have, associated therr.ith, accessories, typically distributor means.
According to the invention, there is provided a closing capsule for flasks or other containers having to be opened.and closed without withdrawing the capsule, the closing capsule comprising an envelope connected to the flask by interlocking elements, said envelope having a bottom and an opening; a guiding member provided below the bottom of the envelope and having a bottom wall in which is formed a port communicating with the inside of the flask, and a drawer provided in said guiding 'I member and adapted to be brought in register with said opening of said envelope; said drawer being provided with a push-member having outer .*accessibility for operating said drawer, wherein the push-member of the j1 drawer is provided with wings guided against flats of the envelope.
Various other features of the invention will become more apparent from the hereafter detailed description.
Embodiments of the invention are shown, by way of non-limiting examples, in the accompanying drawings, wherein: S, Fig. 1 is a cross-section of a capsule positioned on a flask or other container; Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view taken along line II-II of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view taken along line IV-IV of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is an elevational view, partly in cross-section, showing a development of the invention together with a variant; Fig. 5 is a cross-sectional view taken along line V-V of Fig. 4; Fig. 6 is a partial plan view taken along line VI-VI of Fig. 4 when two of' the members shown in this figure are withdrawn.
-K t' I i ;1 I~ i i -2- Figures 1 to I show a first embodiment in which reference numeral 1 denotes the upper portion of a flask or other container having to be closed by a capsule 2.
In the embodiment as shown, the capsule 2 has a generally cylindrical shape, but it could have any other desired appearance.
The flask 1 forms a narrow portion or neck 3 at one end, and includes also interlocking elements 4, for example recesses as shown, a groove, or still screw threads, for complementary interlocking portions formed by an envelope 6 of the capsule 2. The envelope 6 has a top portion having a bottom 7 in the underneath portion of which is defined a guiding member 8 forming a passage 9 with the underneath portion of the bottom 7.
The underneath portion of the guiding member 8 includes a wall pierced with at least one port 11.
The guiding member 8 is extended below the wall 10 by ar annular skirt 12 adapted for penetrating in the neck 3 so as to seal the flask 1 with respect to the capsule 2. The guiding member 8 also forms an opened ring 13 concentric to the skirt 12, for partially surrounding the outside of the neck 3.
S 20 In addition to the foreqoing disclosure, the envelope 6 defines, in its side wall, a hole.
o o ~The passage 9 is used for housing a drawer 16 having an opening 17 directed towards the wall 10 of the guiding member 8.
2 ,The drawer 16 forms a push-piece 18 which is axially guided in the guiding members bordering the hole.
S a. a oa 00 *0s S44 -3- In order to use the product contained in the flask 1, it suffices to exert a pressure on the push-piece 18, which moves the drawer 16 to bring the opening 17 to register with the port 11, and the product contained in the flask 1 can thus flow out, either by exerting a pressure on 10 this flask if it is flexible, or by inclining it if it is rigid.
in order to prevent the drawier 16 from escaping, it is provided, for example on its underneath portion, with a protrusion 20 forming an abutment member, this protrusion being applied against the opened ring 13 when the drawer 16 is in an opening position.
Ell The envelope 6Gas well as the drawer 16, forming the only 4 20 two parts of the capsule, are manufactured preferably 4 44 from a thermoplastic material by injection moulding. For .4 44 4 making the drawer 16, a flexible and resilient material is chosen which enables the protrusion 20 to be resiliently deformed when placing the drawer 16 in position.
SFigs. 1 and 3 show that the push-piece 1S comprises two *wings 23, 24 guided on flats 25, 26 of the envelope 6.
The wings 23, 24 are advantageously serrated for facilitating the grasping thereof.
44 4 4 In Fig. 1, the bottom 7 of the envelope 6 is pierc(E'r with a hole 27 with which the opening 17 of the drawer 16 can be brought in register.
Figs. 4 to 6 show a development of the invention, as well as an alternative embodiment. In this case, the envelope 6 forms, above the bottom 7, side flanges 28 for the 4 support of a distributor cylinder 29. The cylinder 29 can be fixed, for example by snapping the end stubs 30 that it has, into notches 31 of the flanges 28.
The bottom 7 is formed, as in Fig. 1, with a hole 27 which can be brought in register with the opening 17 of the drawer here shown at 161, which drawer is guided by the slide member 8 which is provided as in the embodiment of the preceding figures. The drawer 161 can be operated by a push-piece 32 formed with wings 32a, 32b advantageously provided with vertical serrations, a grained appearence or prints for housing the user's fingers.
It is advantageous, in the embodiment of Fig. 4, to further provide a cap 33 in order to cover both the Whole of the capsule 2 and the distributor cylinder 29 that it has, thereby ensuring the protection of the distributor cylinder 29 which is, on the other hand, an integral part of the capsule 2.
04 C Moreoever, the cap 33 provides the locking of the drawer COOL in the closing position.
Fig. 6 shows that the protrusion 20, which forms an abutment, can be made at the end of each of the two lugs of the drawer 161, which enables, due to the flexibility :o :of the lugs, to facilitate the positioning of the drawer 16 41 44 r 30 As in the foregoing disclosure, same reference numerals designate same members as described with reference to the embodiment of Figs 1-3.
There will be further noted that the distributor cylinder 29 can be replaced by other applicator means, for example a porous block, balls or other members.
The members as described make that, in all the embodiments, means are provided for maintaining the capsule in a closed state when it is in a position of no-use.
