MULTIFUNCTIONAL GRADE SEPARATION BRIDGE WITHOUT TRAFFIC LIGHTS AT A CROSSROAD TECHNICAL FIELD
[01] The present disclosure relates to a grade separation bridge, and in particular, to a multifunctional grade separation bridge without traffic lights at a crossroad.
BACKGROUNDART
[02] Economic development has led to changes in people's travel modes and rapid increase in the number of private cars. Traffic congestion has become a difficult problem for urban
traffic, and the traffic congestion at a crossroad is particularly prominent. The reason is that
there are many vehicle- travel directions at the crossroad, and vehicles in all the directions
cannot move at the same time. At present, the most common method is to install traffic lights
to control movement time of the vehicles in each direction. Although the traffic lights solve a
conflict problem of the vehicles in all directions, the vehicles need to wait, which not only
wastes a lot of time and reduces traffic efficiency, but also increases the probability of
congestion and traffic accidents when the traffic flow is too large. Existing grade separation
bridges at crossroads have a problem of a too complex structure, a high cost, a complicated
lane design, and an immutable lane passage direction. This not only causes increased troubles
to drivers who are unfamiliar with road conditions, but also causes a hidden danger to traffic
safety. Therefore, designing a fast-passing grade separation bridge that conforms to people's
traffic habits, is simple and beautiful in design, has variable lanes, and does not require traffic
lights, is an important way to solve current urban congestion.
SUMMARY
[03] In view of the above problems, the present disclosure provides a multifunctional grade
separation bridge without traffic lights at a crossroad. The grade separation bridge has the
advantages that the grade separation bridge is simple in structure and beautiful, has no need to
set the traffic lights, has variable lanes and can implement an obstacle-free and fast passage in
17821918_1 (GHMatters) P116631.AU all directions, thereby effectively increasing a traffic flow at a crossroad and reducing passage time.
[04] The multifunctional grade separation bridge without traffic lights at a crossroad includes a longitudinal main road (A), a transverse main road (B), a central circular flyover
(C), exclusive right-turn lanes, non-motorized vehicle lanes, and underground pedestrian
passages.
[05] The longitudinal main road (A) is an eight-lane road in two opposite directions, including: a south-to-north left-turn lane (1), a first south-to-north straight lane (2), a second
south-to-north straight lane (3), a south-to-north straight and right-turn lane (4), a
north-to-south left-turn lane (18), a first north-to-south straight lane (17), a second
north-to-south straight lane (16), and a north-to-south straight and right-turn lane (15).
[06] The transverse main road is an eight-lane road in two opposite directions, including: a west-to-north left-turn lane (10), a first west-to-east straight lane (9), a second west-to-east
straight lane (8), a west-to-east straight and right-turn lane (7), an east-to-south left-turn lane
(11), a first east-to-west straight lane (12), a second east-to-west straight lane (13), and an
east-to-west straight and right-turn lane (14).
[07] The longitudinal main road (A) is laid on the ground, the transverse main road (B) passes below the longitudinal main road (A) in a manner of U-shaped tunnel and is a first
floor under the ground. The central circular flyover (C) is located at an uppermost location of
a center of the crossroad and is a first floor above the ground.
[08] The central circular flyover has three circular lanes in a single direction, four exit lanes
and four entrance lanes. Each of the entrance lanes is connected to a corresponding left-turn
lane of the longitudinal main road and the transverse main road, each of the exit lanes is
connected to a corresponding straight lane of the longitudinal main road and the transverse
main road. The motorized vehicle enters one of the entrance lanes of the central circular
flyover through the corresponding left-turn lane of the longitudinal main road and the
transverse main road, and turns left through a third exit lane of the central circular flyover 17821918_1 (GHMatters) P116631.AU relative to the entrance lane through which the motorized vehicle enters. Further, a lane passage electronic indicator screen is arranged above each of the entrance lanes, so that functions of going straight, turning round, turning and turning right, etc. of the central circular flyover are selectively enabled or disenabled through the lane passage electronic indicator screen in real time according to a traffic flow situation.
[09] The exclusive right-turn lanes include: a south-to-east exclusive right-turn lane (6-1), an east-to-north exclusive right-turn lane (6-2), a north-to-west exclusive right-turn lane (6-3),
and a west-to-south exclusive right-turn lane (6-4). Further, an entrance of each of the
exclusive right-turn lanes is the straight and right-turn lane of the longitudinal main road and
the transverse main road adjacent to the entrance, and an exit of each of the exclusive
right-turn lanes is a rightmost straight lane of the longitudinal main road and the transverse
main road adjacent to the exit.
[10] The non-motorized vehicle lanes include: an east-south-direction non-motorized
vehicle lane (5-1), an east-north-direction non-motorized vehicle lane (5-2), a
west-north-direction non-motorized vehicle lane (5-3), and a west-south-direction
non-motorized vehicle lane (5-4). Further, each of the non-motorized vehicle lanes may be
also an on-ground sidewalk at the same time, which allows passages in both directions
without obstruction.
[11] The underground pedestrian passages include: an underground pedestrian passage (E-1)
at a south end of the longitudinal main road, an underground pedestrian passage (E-2) at an
east end of the transverse main road, an underground pedestrian passage (E-3) at a north end
of the longitudinal main road, and an underground pedestrian passage (E-4) at a west end of
the transverse main road. Further, each of the underground pedestrian passages is located
below the longitudinal main road and the transverse main road, allows a traffic in two
opposite directions, and can allow bicycles and other small non-motor vehicles to pass
simultaneously.
[12] Compared with the prior art, the present disclosure has the beneficial effects that the
17821918_1 (GHMatters) P116631.AU grade separation bridge is simple in structure and beautiful, separates people from vehicles with no interference in each direction, has no need to set traffic lights, and can implement an obstacle-free and fast passage of pedestrians and vehicles, thereby effectively increasing the traffic flow at the crossroads and reducing the passage time.

vehicle lane (5-2), a west-north-direction non-motorized vehicle lane (5-3), and a
west-south-direction non-motorized vehicle lane (5-4). Each of the non-motorized vehicle
lanes may be also an on-ground sidewalk at the same time, which allows passages in both
directions without obstruction.
[28] In a further preferred implementation, the underground pedestrian passages include: an
underground pedestrian passage (E-1) at a south end of the longitudinal main road, an
