ANTI MICROBIAL/PROBIOTICS/FUNCTIONAL /MEDICINAL CHEWING GUM WITH PLANT BASED GUM BASE
The invention is described in the following statement
ANTIMICROBIAL/PROBIOTICS/FUNCTIONAL/MEDICINAL CHEWING GUM WITH PLANT BASED GUM BASE
2019100951 25 Aug 2019
Mastic gum from various species of the genus Pistacia contains an unusually high molecular weight polymer which, based on our research and studies, possesses antimicrobial activities. The molecular weight of this polymer has a significant impact on both the antimicrobial activities and the elasticity texture of the gum. Measures must therefore be taken to maintain the molecular weight within a range that optimises both properties for use. Great care is given to terminate the naturally occurring free radical polymerisation within the resin, which increases the molecular weight of the polymer fraction which heightens antimicrobial activity but compromises elasticity. This is achieved through early harvesting or storage at a chilling temperature.
As the molecular weight of the polymer has significant impact on the antimicrobial activities, it is therefore necessary that the mastic gum used for probiotic chewing gum has a low molecular weight so as not to kill the probiotics, while still maintaining a suitable elasticity for chewing. In contrast, the mastic we use for encapsulation may possess a very high molecular weight.
The essential oil of the composite resin is extracted for use by an innovative and unique cold method, which prevents any negative impact on the polymerisation of the resin. The essential oil is also stored at low temperature as free radicals in the essential oil may initiate free radical polymerisation of Myrcene.
This oil is used as an antiseptic, insecticide, lice shampoo and mouth wash. We are also investing in the research sector to produce a wound healing bandage from this essential oil. This essential oil has also traditionally been used to dissolve kidney stones, a usage which yet requires animal and clinical trials unless it is used as a natural remedy.
The remining resin has three major fractions: the weak acidic fractions, the strong acidic fractions and the neutral fractions. Each possesses different biological
2019100951 25 Aug 2019 activities and impact on the gum's elasticity and taste in different ways. In order to have a suitable elasticity and a pleasant texture, it is important to reach a suitable ratio of these fractions.
The gum base by itself cannot serve as a chewing gum, therefore, other ingredients are added. These additional ingredients might or might not be essential and are comparable to those used in conventional chewing gum. The final gum base might or might not be blended in a sigma mixer with Xylitol, Maltitol, flavouring and artificial sweeteners. The remaining processes which roll, form, and coat the chewing gum pellets are carried out via conventional methods.
Conventional chewing gum is primarily made up of butadiene-based synthetic rubber which is non-biodegradable. Our product is distinctively unique as it is made from plant-based gums from a variety of trees, including — but not limited to — genus Pistacia. It is an environmentally friendly product that is biodegradable and offers health benefits of traditional medicine which have the support of evidencebased research and scientific papers.
This chewing gum can be produced with sugar or a sweetener. The preference is to use the sweetener, xylitol/isomalt which is diabetic-friendly — the former also possessing purported dental hygiene benefits. The chewing gum can also be nonflavoured or flavoured with a broad variety of flavours such as natural essential oils. Vitamins D, E, A, K or a multi vitamin, hemp products, cannabinoids, calcium, analgesics, sildenafil and other functional compounds can be incorporated into the gum base or its coating to produce medicinal/ supplement natural chewing gum. It can also be incorporated with Nitroglycerin to relieve angina as Nitroglycerin is released slowly while the gum is chewed. After the gum base is made, the functional compounds are mixed into the chewing gum itself, the coating or both.

Modified/non-antimicrobial plant base chewing gum can also be incorporated with probiotics:
• Lactococcus lactis ssp. lactis;
• Lactococcus lactis ssp. cremoris;
• Lactococcus lactis spp. lactis biovar diacetylactis;
• Lactobacilluys brevis;
• Leuconostoc spp.;
• the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae • Blis M18 and K12
In summary this chewing gum can deliver vast majority of the orally taken medication, probiotics and supplements.

Claims (14)
1. The gum base is made from natural resin and not from petrochemical, namely butadiene-based synthetic rubber, or natural latex.
2. The said gum base is therapeutic and possesses antimicrobial, antiviral, antitumor and cholesterol levelling properties.
3. The said gum base has gut health benefits, namely anti-helicobacter, beneficial to Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBS), including but not limited to Crohn's disease, reflux heartburn and periodontal disease — gingivitis.
4. The said gum base is distinctively unique as it is made from plant-based gums from a variety of trees, including — but not limited to — genus Pistacia.
5. The said gum base is an environmentally friendly product that is biodegradable and offers health benefits of traditional medicine which have the support of evidence-based research, clinical trials and scientific papers.
6. The said gum base is incorporated with functional/medicinal groups.
7. The modified said gum base is incorporated with prebiotic/probiotics.
8. The said gum base by itself cannot serve as a chewing gum, therefore, other ingredients are added. These additional ingredients might or might not be essential and are comparable to those used in conventional chewing gum.
9. The said gum base might or might not be blended in a sigma mixer with Xylitol, Maltitol, flavouring and artificial sweeteners.

10. This said gum can be blended with sugar or a sweetener. The preference is to use the sweetener, xylitol/isomalt which is diabetic-friendly — the former also possessing purported dental hygiene benefits.
11. The essential oil of the said gum is extracted for use by an innovative and unique cold method (vacuum followed by chilling process), which prevents any negative impact on the polymerisation of the resin. The essential oil is also stored at low temperature as remnant of free radicals in the essential oil may initiate free radical polymerisation of Myrcene.
12. The said essential oil is used as an antiseptic and healing remedy in the wound healing bandage.
