Description

1/7 Grinding machine for grinding rails of a track [001] The invention relates to a grinding machine for grinding rails of a track. A reference herein to a patent document or other matter which is given as prior art is not to be taken as an admission or a suggestion that that document was, 5 known or that the information it contains was part of the common general knowledge as at the priority date of any of the claims. [002] A grinding machine of this type is known from US 5 735 734 and serves primarily for eliminating rough spots on the rail head surface which are present after shearing off a welding seam. 10 [003] It is therefore desirable to provide a grinding machine with which the grinding result can be improved. [004] According to the invention there is provided a grinding machine for grinding rails of a track, including a support frame which is designed to roll on the rail by means of tracer rollers and has an adjustable grinding unit, the support frame 15 being mounted for pivoting by means of a pivot drive on an assembly frame having guide rollers designed to roll on the rails, wherein both the tracer- and the guide rollers each have a respective rolling surface provided for rolling on a rail head, and a guide member designed for being applied to the rail head is connected to the assembly frame in a manner enabling distancing with respect 20 to the support frame wherein the distancing, oriented perpendicularly to the pivot axis, between the guide member and the support frame occurs by means of a gear drive which is rotatably connected to the pivot drive. [005] As a result of this configuration, the transverse motion of the guide rollers is coupled to the pivoting motion of the grinding unit and precisely defined. With 25 C:\poi\word\SPEC-955947.docx 1093 2/7 this, an exact positioning of the assembly frame and thus a consistently high grinding quality is ensured at all times. [006] Additional advantages of the invention become apparent from the dependent claims and the drawing description. [0071 The invention will be described in more detail below with reference to an embodiment represented in the drawing in which [008] Fig. 1 shows a side view of a grinding machine, Figs. 2 and Fig. 3 each show a simplified section along line 11 or IlIl in Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 shows a perspective rendering of a part of the grinding machine. [009] A grinding machine 1, visible in Figs. 1 to 4, for grinding rails 2 of a track includes a support frame 3 and is essentially already described in detail In US 5 735 734. The grinding machine 1 is supported via two tracer rollers 4 on the rail 2 to be ground and designed to roll on the same, the tracer rollers 4 being spaced from one another in the longitudinal direction of the rail and having rotation axes 5. At both of its longitudinal ends, the support frame 3 is connected to an assembly frame 8 so as to be rotatable about a pivot axis 7, extending the longitudinal direction of the rail and formed by a shaft 6, the assembly frame 8 being provided with a yoke 9 projecting upwards and bridging the support frame 3. [010] Located on a bracket 10 fastened to the assembly frame 8 is a drive motor 11 which is connected via a flexible drive shaft 12 to a grinding unit 13 provided on the support frame 3. The grinding unit 13 consists of a grinding 3/7 disk 16 rotatable about an axis of rotation 14 and designed to be set upon a rail head 15 of the rail 2. An outrigger (see Fig. 7 in US 5 735 734) is provided for supporting the assembly frame 8 on the opposite rail, not shown. [011] Both the tracing rollers 4 as well as guide rollers 17 connected to the assembly frame 8 have a rolling surface provided for rolling on the rail head 15 and marked 18 or 19, respectively (see particularly Figs. 3, 4). A pivot drive 20 is provided for pivoting the support frame 3 relative to the assembly frame 8. Said pivot drive 20 is composed of a hand wheel 21, a screw spindle 22 and two gear segments 23 which are in engagement with one another (see Fig. 2). The lower gear segment 23 is connected to the support frame 3. [012] Each guide roller 17, serving as a guide member 24 and being rotatable about a roller axis 32, is fastened to a roller mount 25 which is supported on the assembly frame 8 for pivoting about an axis 26, extending parallel to the pivot axis 7 and spaced from the same in vertical direction, and rotatably connected to a gear drive 27. The latter is formed by a gear segment 28, connected to the roller mount 25, which is in engagement with a cog wheel 30 via a reversing cog wheel 29. The cog wheel 30 is positioned coaxially to the shaft 6 and rotatably connected with the support frame 3. [013] In working operations, the grinding machine 1 is run by hand on the rail 2 and moved back and forth at the grinding spot. During this, the assembly frame 8 always remains in the vertical position and - contrary to the support frame 3 is not pivoted. This offers the advantage of an ergonomically correct working 4/7 mode with a comfortably upright position of the operator who can carry out all adjusting operations by means of the control elements arranged at the top of the yoke 9. Furthermore, since the drive motor 11 is not tilted, it can be in the shape of a four-stroke engine having better emission values and generating less noise. [014] When grinding the horizontal running surface of the rail head 15, the grinding machine 1 is in the position shown in Figs. 1 to 4. The support frame 3 rests on the rail 2 via the tracer rollers 4, the rotation axes 5 of which are now oriented horizontally. The assembly frame 8 likewise rests on the tracer rollers 4, while the guide rollers 17 - due to their roller contact points being positioned higher - do not rest on the rail 2 (see Fig. 3). The flanges of the guide rollers 22 are dimensioned in such a way that they extend downward beyond the upper rail head edges and, in their role as guide members 24, prevent the grinding machine 1 from slipping off the rail head 15 laterally. The operator controls the feed rate of the grinding disk 16 by means of the pivot drive 20, wherein the own weight of the device 1 produces the contact pressure required for the grinding operation. [015] If a rail head edge or an adjoining vertical side surface of the rail head 15 is to be worked on, it is only necessary to that end to pivot the support frame 3 by actuating the hand wheel 21. The associated rotation of the shaft 6 about the pivot axis 7 causes a tilting of the tracer rollers 4 which, due to their function as copying rollers, follow the transverse profile of the rail head 15.
5/7 This automatically also causes a displacement of the support frame 3 and the assembly frame 8, coupled thereto via the shaft 6, transversely to the longitudinal direction of the rail. [016] The freedom of movement in the transverse direction required for that purpose is achieved in that the roller mount 25 is pivoted in the transverse direction along with the rotational movement of the shaft 6 and the gear drive 27 coupled thereto. The positive or negative pivoting motion of the roller mount 25 is delimited in each case by a stop 31.
