Abstract
The invention concerns an internal combustion engine for equipping a vehicle or to be used as a fixed engine, in particular a spark ignition engine comprising cylinders and pistons, with fuel injection. The engine is not provided with an external cooling system; it is provided with means (6 to 11) for introducing, in one or more of its mixing chambers (18), an amount of additional compressed air, so that the engine receives a total amount of air greater than that required for combustion/ignition of the fuel. The air supplement is mixed with gases coming from the combustion chamber (13), so that its increase in enthalpy at the end of the mixture with the gases coming from the combustion chamber (13) is equivalent to that which would have been rejected by a standard engine external cooling system, thereby enhancing performance.
