Abstract

The invention relates to a method for burning fuel in an internal combustion engine, especially for cars or lorries. Said method comprises the following steps: a) the fuel (F) is directly injected into a central area (8) of a combustion chamber at a pre-determined moment during the compression phase; b) the fuel (F) is compressed again with the air (L) in the central area (8), is forced from the central area (8) into a first porous element (6) forming an intermediate area and separating an outer area (7) from the central area (8), and is evaporated and mixed with the air in the intermediate area; and c) the air/fuel mixture is ignited.
