Abstract
The invention relates to an automatic height adjustment system for flails with toppers (11) for use in harvesters harvesting several rows of root crops. Said system is embodied in such a way that a scanning device (12) associated with the flail (1, 2, 3) impinges upon the shaft (2) or the housing (1) of the flail in such a way that the vertical movement carried out by the scanning device is transmitted proportionally to the housing or the shaft of the flail and a conventional support wheel arrangement is no longer needed. The scanned surface on the root crop is used to regulate both the cutting blade of the topper (13) and the flail.
