Abstract

In a control circuit for a relay for switching an AC load, the zero transition of the AC voltage is sampled and is used to control the relay at a predetermined response time before the next zero transition. In this case, the relay is connected via a timer (R1, C1) to a supply voltage (UN) which is significantly greater than the rated voltage of the relay, such that when the semi conductor switch is switched on, a voltage surge initially occurs on the relay winding which reduces the range of variation of the response time to a minimum level.
