Abstract

The invention provides a method for the continuous production of steel, especially steel strip, from iron ore. Ore is continuously charged in particulate form to a reactor where it is converted into hot metal in a continuous flash smelting process. The hot metal is continuously refined, continuously clarified by bubbling an inert gas through it, continuously alloyed, and then continuously degassed. The degassed metal is then continuously cast and may be continuously rolled to steel strip.
