Abstract
Disclosed is an elevator comprising a cage that is suspended in a highly eccentric manner on a set of support means in the form of an idle 2:1 pulley, a drive unit which consists at least of a motor, a driving pulley, and a brake, an opposite pulley (6) for doubly wrapping around the driving pulley (5), and a position of the axis between the driving pulley (5) and the opposite pulley (6), which runs parallel to an adjacent shaft wall (12). The drive unit (5, 6) is disposed exclusively or partly in the space between the adjacent wall (12) of the elevator shaft (1) and the rear wall of the cage (8) or within a vertical extension of said area.
