Abstract

For the accurate production of a multiple-colour decoration (3) on a substrate (2) by way of a decoration process without printing formes (e.g. inkjet), a decoration original (6) is first divided into suitable colour separations (part images) which relate to the printing motif and result in the decoration (3) when superimposed. Inks are subsequently provided for printing the part images. The part images are transferred without printing formes, for example by inkjet, directly or indirectly onto the substrate (2) by way of the provided inks, as a result of which the decoration (3) is produced on the substrate (2). For this purpose, a printing apparatus (1) accesses decoration data, for example from an image detection device (4) for detecting the decoration original (6), and has a central computing device (8) which is signal-connected (7) to the image detection device (4), a multiplicity of primary-colour reservoirs which contain in each case one primary colour and interact in each case with at least one metering device (31), a control device (10) for providing the inks for printing the part images, and a multiplicity of part-image printing devices (23 to 26) without printing formes. Each of the printing devices (23 to 26) is assigned to one of the part images. The result of this is a printing method and a printing apparatus for said method with accurate colour reproduction of a decoration original with low expenditure in comparison with the prior art.
