Abstract

1. Process for vacuum-packaging, especially of articles of great height between a thermoplastic upper web (1) and a thermoplastic lower web (2), in which the upper web (1) is heated, the article (5) is inserted between a lower web (2) and the heated upper web (1) and is introduced into a vacuum chamber (9), the lower web (2) being narrower and the upper web (1) being wider than the vacuum chamber (9), with the air being aspirated from the space between the webs (1, 2) through the gap formed by the side edges of the lower web (2) and the lateral inner walls of the vacuum chamber (9) and from the space above the upper web (1) while the lower web is heated (2), and with the upper web (1) being urged against the lower web (2) for areal sealing by means of air pressure, characterized in that the upper web (1) is extended in the direction of the width during heating, and in that the lower web (2) and the upper web (1) are additionally sealed together in their marginal region by mechanical pressure on the order of magnitude of 200 N/cm**2 and by heat and, in that the areal sealing takes place during sealing in the marginal region (20).
