Description

Process, wool, unfortunately, furs, skins etc. Like. To protect against moth damage.

The methods used to date for combating fur and clothes moths are limited to driving them away with strongly smelling substances such as naphthalene, camphor, pepper, etc.

As is well known, the effect is only temporary and ceases as soon as the goods to be protected are brought out to the atmosphere filled with the odor in question. In addition, such products have an extremely unpleasant odor.

A new, technically very valuable process has now been found, wool u. Like. To protect from moths, which does not have the disadvantages mentioned, but allows the objects treated with it to be permanently and completely protected from moth damage. It consists in treating the goods to be protected in the manner of a dyeing process with sulfo- or carboxylic acids of aromatic hydrocarbons or heterocyclic rings and their substitute products, such as phenol-p-sulfonic acid, nitro-p-tolyic acid, benzilic acid, acetylphenylaminoacetic acid. If necessary, the finished goods are treated in a dye bath or in a large dye tub which, in addition to the substances to be protected, contain other additives that promote absorption. such as sodium chloride or sodium sulfate.

You can also create the insoluble compounds of these bodies on the fiber, if you z. B. carries out this treatment gradually in different baths. Such a process, which must be carried out after dyeing or during dyeing, makes it possible to avoid the large losses caused by moth damage.

Example: 100 parts by weight of wool are heated with 5 parts by weight of p-cresotinic acid, 5 parts by weight of sulfuric acid and 15 parts by weight of calcined Glauber's salt using the liquor ratio customary for dyeing for one hour, then rinsed and dried.

   PATENT CLAIMS:
1. Method for protecting wool, fur, etc. The like. Against moth damage, characterized in that the goods are dyed with sulfo or carboxylic acids of aromatic hydrocarbons or heterocyclic ring bodies or their substitution products, with the exception of unsubstituted aminonaphtholsulfonic acids. treated.
