  VerfahrenzurHerstellungvonSchildpattimitationen.

 EMI1.1

Process for the production of tortoise-shell imitations.

The invention relates to a process for the production of imitations of tortoiseshell and other flaky colored materials from condensation products of phenols and formaldehyde. which is characterized in that liquid, colored or stained phenol-formaldehyde resins are heated without pressure until they are partially insoluble in the usual solvents. these are then crushed and poured into molds with liquid, colored or uncolored phenol-formaldehyde resins and hardened without pressure.

To carry out the process, the above-mentioned resins are polymerized in liquid and colored or ink-colored state without pressure at a temperature of 75-90 times. until they settle in known solvents like methyl alcohol. Ethyl alcohol, acetone, etc. Like. Only partially solve.

The resins treated in this way are then cooled down to 20 ", crushed in a scrap machine, the pieces are mixed well together, then spread out in shallow containers and heated for a short time to 40-500: the amount cakes and becomes an irregular plate then in a warm state in a suitable machine into irregular pieces of unequal size
 EMI1.1
Phenol-formaldehyde resins filled into molds and cured without pressure.

The added solid resin parts dissolve because they are also in alcohol, acetone and the like. Like. Are only partially soluble. in the liquid resin no longer occurs. but instead form sharply separated areas in the hardened mass, which give the material the appearance of tortoiseshell or other flaky colored material.
