  Compasses for length measurements.

Compasses have been proposed with split rulers attached between the legs. The necessary accuracy cannot be achieved with this, because the division on this ruler is too small due to the reduction in the information. The invention relates to a compass for length measurements with a line attached between the compass legs, which connects the compass legs extended backwards and always remains parallel to the connecting line of the compass tips; it consists in the fact that the ruler can slide in a setting that is attached to the end of one leg so that it can swing.

The drawing shows an example embodiment of the subject matter of the invention as an inner compass for measuring the diameter of bores and. Like. In front view (Fig. 1) and top view (Fig. 2). The compass legs a, b are hinged together in their middle; c, d are their probe tips. At the other end dl of the leg a, a ruler e provided with a graduation is arranged to swing. The second end e of the leg b carries a movable backdrop f in which the ruler e can slide.

The backdrop I is provided with a vernier 11. The ruler inside the backdrop can be determined by means of the adjusting screw g. h is a sliding piece that can also be locked on the ruler with a pressure screw t, and h are connected to one another by a spiral spring which tends to bring both parts closer together. The distance between the two parts is determined by the length of the stop i! certainly.

The way in which the ruler is connected to the legs of the compass means that the former is always parallel with the connecting line of the probe tips and that the measured length is on the ruler
 EMI1.1

To measure the inside diameter of a bore, after the stylus tips have been driven a little more apart than the necessary distance, the slide is clamped with the ruler and the probe tips are inserted into the hole by tensioning the spring connecting the slide with the link.

The spring balancer can be chosen in such a way that it presses the probe tips against the walls of the hole with each measurement with a constant force. A clamping of the backdrop is done afterwards to measure the tip distance.

The compass shown is used to measure inner diameters. However, if modified accordingly, it can also be used as a compass.

    PATENT CLAIMS:
1. Compass for length measurements with a ruler attached between the legs, which connects the legs extended backwards and always remains parallel to the line connecting the tips of the compasses, characterized in that the ruler (e) can slide in a setting (i) that can swing is attached to the end of one leg.
