   Process for making inlaid woodwork.

The subject of the present invention is a method for the quick and cheap production of wooden panels, the surface of which is decorated by inlaid pieces of metal, mother-of-pearl, wood or other material which form inlaid ornaments and figures.

This procedure consists of putting on one with any purple substance
 EMI1.1
the one made of metal, wood. or another material cut out or otherwise produced ornament and over it a thin wooden veneer and then subject the whole thing in a press to high pressure, so that the inserted part is pressed into the top veneer; Finally, the inlaid material is made visible by grinding and polishing the surface of the veneer.

The accompanying drawing illustrates in FIGS. 1, 2 and 3 the three successive stages of the process. a is a plate made of wood, solid or composed of veneer or the lower veneer, b the ornament cut out of metal, mother-of-pearl, ivory, wood or some other material, which should appear in the finished piece as inlaid work.

After the plate has been coated with any adhesive, the ornament b is placed on the plate a and the cover veneer c is placed over it. These parts are now pressed under a corresponding, constant pressure, the decoration b being pressed from below into the top veneer, which joins the lower veneer a at the places left free by the decoration.

The now uneven surface of the Veckfournim's (Fig. 2) is then ground or processed until the inserted ornament b is visible (Fig. 3). This gives a compact board which is completely identical to the inlaid wooden boards produced by the known, laborious process.
