Process for the digestion of mineral phosphates.

The present invention relates to the production of an assimilable phosphate additive by digesting mineral phosphates without the use of sulfuric acid.

It has already been proposed that mixtures of mineral phosphates, especially low-value types, with carbonate of lime, the amount of which is measured so that at least four molecules of lime per molecule of phosphoric acid (P2O5) are added, to sintering and then given-
 EMI1.1
If necessary, quench the liquid mixture by contacting it with cold water.

In this process, the use of high temperatures (sintering and melting temperatures) is provided, and the use of relatively large amounts of additives also takes place, which inevitably means that the phosphoric acid content of the product is not reduced significantly.

Experiments that led to the present invention have shown that it is possible to produce useful phosphoric acid fertilizers in a simple manner if mineral phosphates (high-quality phosphates are preferred) with relatively small amounts of carbonate of lime at a maximum of 600 C and the mass with water treated for hydration. This is achieved without the use of high temperatures and temperatures required for melting the material

The present invention is intended for phosphates of less than 18% lime content; u. between so much carbonate of lime is added to the phosphate that the total lime content of the mixture is 18 o, so for a rock phosphate containing 120 Ca CO., 6% Ca. CO., Added.
