Process for the production of a smokeless and spectrally pure flash powder with a high burning speed.
The flashlight powders known so far have the disadvantage of a more or less large amount of smoke which is not only extremely annoying, but also
It is difficult to take multiple flash exposures in a row. Also, the burning speed of this flash powder is usually not high enough to enable sharp pictures of objects or people in motion.
It has now been found that the finely divided rare earth metals such as
Zirconium, thorium, titanium and the like a. in the state according to the French patents tifr. 419043 are obtained by adding certain amounts of the associated nitrates or perchlorates to deliver a spectrally pure flash powder that burns absolutely odorless and smokeless and at such a speed that even very fast movements on the photographic plate are sharply depicted. The smokelessness. allows you to take any number of pictures in a row in closed rooms.
The essence of this invention is that here for the first time a flash light powder is produced, the components of which contain one and the same metal as such and as an oxygen-releasing compound of the same. The spectral purity achieved in this way would in itself only be of importance for some scientific purposes, but if one takes zirconium as a metal, as was done in the present invention,
Thorium, titanium, etc., which not only burn under strong light development, but also create oxides of relatively high density, this leads to flash light powders which, in addition to spectral purity, have the valuable properties that have been emphasized several times (absence of smoke and odor), because yes the added oxygen-releasing
During the chemical reaction, salts change into the same oxides that are formed from the free metals.
This shows the novelty compared to the D. R. patent specification No. 142989, since the lightning powder obtained by this process is neither spectrally pure nor smoke or. are odorless; The high burning rate is also absent due to the addition of foreign substances
Example:
3 parts by weight of zirconium in powder form (represented by the reduction of zirconium oxide with metallic calcium in a vacuum) are intimately mixed with 4 parts by weight of zirconium nitrate dried at 1600 and then passed through a fine sieve.
